Hi Kurt! Absolutely loving your videos, by far they have to be the most informative I've watched! Every time I watch one of your videos, I always have my notebook to hand! Just a quick question, I have done some theatre performances at secondary school, youth theatres and just recently at university. A few of these involve multi-rolling, so was just wondering if I write all the characters I played on my resume or just 'multi-rolling'. Thanks!
I believe the proper way to list that on a resume is to write "ensemble". Personally, I don't have much theatre experience but have seen other actors do this on their resumes here in the US. Judging by your use of the terms "secondary school" and "at university", I'm guessing you are in the UK 🤣. I'm not 100% sure if this is how it is done outside the US. I recommend double checking with your teachers at university!
@Acting Career Center Hi Kurt! Thank you so much for the response! Yes, you guessed it, I'm from the UK! In the UK, we use the term 'ensemble' to represent a group of background actors. Perhaps writing 'various roles' may be better, as they were all main roles. We were a small theatre company hence why we played different parts. Thanks so much for your help! I can't wait for your future videos!
Hi Kurt! Thank you SO much for your advice, my acting friends and I always talk about you and how helpful your advice is! You have been an amazing guide to us beginning actors! I have a question, I have taken 2 on camera stanislavski method acting classes, one was beginners and now I am in non-beginners. How would I put that on my resume exactly, bc it is a technique / method class but also a on camera. Also one being beginner and the other non-beginners?
That's really interesting and I'm not familiar with a hybrid technique/on-camera type of class. Perhaps ask your teacher what the best way to list that class on a resume. There's not really a right answer but there's probably not a wrong answer either
I so appreciate this Kurt. Your lessons have been extremely helpful and easy to follow. I do have a question about my resume. I recently played a Lin Quay ninja in a Mortal Kombat short, but I had no speaking role. I had a fight scene with the lead character Scorpion. Do I put that on my resume since it's a non-speaking role? I know we don't put background roles on our resume, but I was wondering if this is considered a background role, and if not what role should I put it as? Also, I wanted to know when it comes to training, does online training, books, and acting software counts as training on a resume or do I have to be in an actual classroom setting or in sessions with instructors?
This is a great video, Kurt. I've cast a dozen shorts, and the more professional, the better. Your template is perfect. I suggest attaching it to the back of your headshot so it doesn't get lost.
OK, as a former AEA/SAG/AFTRA actor returning to the business, you're info on including AEA isn't correct. If you are an AEA member and you include a Theatre category on your film resume, you absolutely should add AEA under your union affiliations space. You gotta milk that affiliation, baby! Great videos, btw!
Hi Kurt what if your just starting out and have no acting experience other than background or do not have any previous training? What could you add to the resume instead?
Hey Kurt. Do you have a video about the new definitions for Television and Film. I have also had a segment I created, director and produced and was aired on ABC and parables tv streaming. I need to update my resume. Thank you for everything!
All I have is training and one commercial 🙈 This is so helpful. I took a year of Meisner, I thought I put my teacher's name instead of Sanford Meisner. Thank you! I am hoping to start with theatre and student films to put something up. Or possible web series!!! I'm so green.

Another question why do they care where the play was held for instance I was in a play called the wiz why would I need to put the place where I did the play on the resume? Is it so they can confirm you were actually in the play? or for other reasons.
What do I put if I took a lot of classes at one studio? Would I list the school and then all the classes I took or all the classes followed by the school, every single time? I was wondering if rewriting the studio 7 times would be appropriate or if I just need to write the school once.
Hello Kurt I’m Sal. Hi Kurt! Thank you so much again for this amazing video tip. The question, after each film or theater project you put all of it you have done or put the ones that are important?
QUESTION: I've seen on some of the audition posts on Backstage, Casting Network, etc. that they're looking for a cover letter. Do you have a tutorial for writing a cover letter? Love the advice. Thank you for this video! :)
Hey Kurt, I was just a featured extra! It was my first time on a professional set! My character was the focal point of the scene and had a name. Could I add it to my resume as just a placeholder until I have a real credit?
Kurt, thanks so much! Just curious if I only have one type of training e.g. Meisner technique, how can people tell how many years of training I did? Or the more different types of trainings the better?
How am I supposed to know what union I am? I'm not very sure. Thanks! I was also in School plays, should I put that in my credits under *THEATRE* And what if I haven't ever taken classes for acting because of time and money?
You are not in any union unless you paid money to join a union. If you haven't paid to join a union, you would write "non-union" on your resume. It's ok if you haven't taken any classes yet, but eventually you absolutely should. If you want to be taken seriously as an actor, you need training.
Kurt! Thank you SO MUCH for this video! I have been looking everywhere for a resume example! Question, what are the differences when writing a child's resume? I have read in various articles they recommend having a section describing your child's personality. There are so many opinions, help!
Honestly, I've never seen that before. But if it is the norm in your area, then I guess it's fine. In my opinion, describing personality on a resume really doesn't show anything. They are going to want to see it on camera anyway
Hey Kurt. I see you've answered the question about short films with friends being listed under FILMS with (short) beside it. Would that also apply to student short films that I've acted in? If so, would I put the youtube link on the resume at all? Thanks again for your videos and always taking the time to answer questions!
Yes, you can do the same thing with student films. I would not recommend putting the RUclips link. No agent or casting director is going to watch an entire film (no matter how short it is) to look for you. Instead, pull your clips from the projects that you've done and create a demo reel. I've seen people include a single RUclips link at the top of their resume to their demo reel and I think that's ok.
for the training section, let's say we took a class like "improvisational acting" with a teacher, would we put that the same way you showed like taking an acting class or would we not put it at all?
If you did an Acting course ( which was only a 6 week course ) and you write it down on the training section , do you need to write that it was a beginner level so they can see that you learnt the beginener level? But what would you write for what type of course/class was it? Should I write just beginner level or basics of acting?
Then you do another acting course but in intermediate level so should i write that too in training so they can see i learnt the beginner level , intermediate level and advanced level of acting?

Bullets, brothers, and blood was my very first time on a movie set. So I'm very new to this. I was a funeral attendee. Is that considered a principle or a extra??
Hey Kurt, does the web series have to already have multiple episodes in order for me to use it in that section on my resume? Or what if it just has one episode and doesn't continue on? Like a self-made short film.

Hey Kurt, does the web series have to already have multiple episodes in order for me to use it in that section on my resume? Or what if it just has one episode and doesn't continue on? Like a self-made short film.
Hey Kurt your videos have been awesome! And really helpful. I only got into background performing this year, here in Canada, but wanted to ask you - since I’ve only had works days as BG, but you say that you can’t add BG work to a resume, what should I do? Would it all just be blank in my case then?
That's what i've been wondering too
Should we list an ensemble theatre roll?
