    Why ... why does federalists disagree with loose just because Jefferson wanted to use it once for the Louisiana purchase like I’m confused why would you be against that purchase ... I feel like the parties argued just for the heck of it in this case because I’m really confused on this

      green_razor My book mentioned the Federalist feared their region of New England would lose political influence over the federal government in a bigger country . A good chunk of Federalist Party were excited though because of the sudden growth of the nation.

      The only reason people were upset with this is because they feared that the democratic republicans would gain power because the people who would settle in that land would be democratic republicans (because that land is meant for farming and the dem.repubs. were agrarian). They didn't want them to get more votes so they were against them getting that land.
