I like the strategic context behind the purchase thats often overlooked. As you noted, they went to napoleon with $10 million for new orleans, and this was because at the time, thats what the land was valued at. Napoleon, and by extension France, offered the entirety of the Louisiana Territory for $20 million because they only had a foothold in the new orleans area, and if a war were to break out over the territory with the United States, France would only feasibly be able to defend New Orleans only, especially because napoleon was embroiled in european wars and the haitian revolution. So napoleon offered the entirety of the territory since fighting over it would be pointless and the americans showed up with much needed cash. He made them double the offer and included the entire territory in exchange. Both sides came out on top with this deal. Most people think it was a dumb trade, but it was in actuality one of the most pragmatic land exchanges to be done in north america. All the rest of the contiguous USA was obtained through war. It was the same thing with Alaska by the way. The russians sold it because they didnt want the british to have it, knowing they couldnt defend it properly if the british got cheeky. They only used it for the fur trade so to them alaska wasnt particularly valuable and the americans paid what they considered a fair price for the territory. The russians didnt lose much in the deal, until oil was discovered later on, but by then it was firmly a US territory.
This video cleared many things up for me! Its for school, and I had to wrote an essay about Napoleon and Jeffersons' Roles in the purchase! This helped a lot. THANK YOUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!!!! Somebody reply to me if your also here for school!
Interesting how we are taught to go to school, get jobs for success when leaders and historians explore the world and make deals that we write reports on for an 'A' on our report card

So the French/Napoleon sold huge portions of lucrative land they neither fully controlled or traversed and still got mad they didn't get more out of the sell? The audacity
FACT: The watersheds of the Milk River and the Poplar River/Great Muddy Creek, which make up the northernmost part of the Mississippi/Missouri River basin emptying in the Gulf of Mexico, are the unmapped, unmarked northern boundary of the Louisiana Territory.
Sadly, L’ouverture was captured and taken to France where he died in prison. But the freedom he gained for his country remains to this day. He was a great hero.

You are absolutely correct about York being an important historical figure in the Corps of Discovery. The goal of this video was to explain the purchase of the Louisiana Territory in the years prior to the expedition. He will definitely be included in any future videos that detail the expedition itself. Thank you for your dedication in ensuring that videos about historical events includes all the people who were involved in them!
A Cajun is a person of white European descent that speaks French and/or Spanish. They were originally French, but opposed the King and became their own society. (French Canadians)
The French Empire stole it from the Spanish Empire who never really conquered the Louisiana territory. It was more of an aspiration than a settled claim.

You conveniently left out the Historical Fact that A Black Man,who was a Slave was part of this Expedition. His Name was YORK. LOOK IT UP on RUclips.

This means we didn't "steal land," even in spite of all the cultural revisionism.
There was still Natives Americans force off the land they own.
