This song is 44 years old......I remember when it came out (1980). Still.sounds great in 2024.
I agree with you there, I loved it back in 1980 and I still do today, it's her defining song!❤️
We must feel old now.. 😂
@@Leoviliti1 😢😭😭 lol
@@Leoviliti1
Speak for yourself. I'm a sprightly.........(Erm).....42 (I wish)😂😂😂😄😄😄
@@doncuadrado8489 🤣💐👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 ah ...only a year older than myself 🤣😂🤣🤗
To be honest even being in my forties is a vague memory now 🤣
The sax player is Wesley McGoogan and lives in my hometown of Hastings,UK. I am friends with him and he is something of a legend around these parts, This brilliant song is part of the soundtrack to the excellent film 'Breaking Glass', telling the pitfalls of making it in the music business in 1980. Hazel has not been well of late after suffering a brain haemorrhage and is slowly getting back to good health.
And sadly he lost some of his fingers after a chainsaw accident for a Saxophonist is sickening even more.
And not by Bob Holness, of Blockbusters...
That sax solo is epic, gets to me every time I hear it. Brilliant song.❤
I didn't know of the haemorrhage, I wish her all the love & healing vibes.
I wouldn't call it an excellent film, but I love this and Eight Day ❤
It's such a delightfully British song, "Will you just politely say Goodnight" " You drink your coffee, I sip my tea" "I spill my tea, oh silly me"
From the movie Breaking Glass. Hazel wrote and performed all the songs in the movie. Awesome girl.
IIRC this wasn’t actually in the movie but was tacked on to the soundtrack album.
@@ythomitnellum Yes it was: ruclips.net/video/_3WsgjKvPdA/видео.html
A snippet of the song was in the film itself.
@@ythomitnellum yes it was
Eighth Day (from Breaking Glass) and D-Days also good
That soaring saxophone, probably the best sax part ever put down on a song.
Baker Street
Totally. Better than Baker Street. (Which is saying something.) The expression... the raw emotion... breathtaking.
And don't overlook the drum solo bridge, which is one of the best drum solos ever.
I agree 100% - the best sax on any record, ever.
👍👍👍
Hazel - so underrated. 😔A REAL singer, artist with so much soul in her beautiful voice. ♥
"Sax, leaves you wanting more"...Band obliges, big time. Eighth Day is a must listen.
Eighth Day a song way ahead of it's time and very relevant in todays world
Chek out Hazel Dean.
One of the finest songs ever written. The guy actually makes the sax weep.
The first time I heard this I thought my heart was breaking. See what you think of Hazel's song Eighth Day.
Love Hazel O’Connor, I really did grow up in the greatest musical era in my opinion.
One of the greatest heartbreaker songs of the 80s, totally underrated o/s the UK.
Up there with Stay with me till dawn by Judy Tzuke.
She`s the artist I have seen live the most. And she is a lovely person too.
Someone mentioned Eighth Day by Hazel O'Connor too. Couldn't agree more 🤗
Hazel is one of the nicest people so down to earth a lovely lady, met her a few yrs ago. wishing her a full recovery. Will you is a classic.
The video was from the Movie Breaking Glass, Hazel wrote and performed the soundtrack and starred as 'Kate' in the movie, about the music industry and price of fame. Highly recommend
You can't say Hazel O'Connor without mentioning "Eight Day Machine"
Favourite song. Must be listened to
Awesome song
A problem man had not forseen as yet...
Its awesome so ahead of its time
Seeing these dudes being blown away by a track that blew my mind in 81 , it’s great 🇬🇧
Can't believe you've finally got round to this classic. I've been requesting this for over 2 years. Knew you'd like it. Much love from England 🏴
Me too!
They owe you one. 😊
I've loved this song since my teens. She didn't have the purest voice, but she puts so much into this song and it so captures that feeling, the pain, excitement and fear of adolescent anticipation. And the emotion in the sax is up there with the guitar on Shine On You Crazy Diamond. Thank you for choosing it!
I can not tell you how thankful I am. This IMHO is an absolute SAX MASTERPIECE FULL OF EMOTION and takes me back to unforgettable times.
Honestly, one of the best songs written and recorded, ever, the subject she sings about, the bass and the sax and the strings just sublime. Hazel was struck down by illness a few years ago but is recovering now.....a one off song, uniques and compelling...
Never heard it
Her “Eighth Day” was great, it’s the one which is mostly played in the uk
Not in my house. Will You every time! 😊
@@carolstrathern8340yup, it’s a goodun but radio seems to think she only had the one hit 🤷♂️
I fully agree
I agree as well. I remember discovering her at the same time of Alison Moyet's solo album "Alf" her stateside. She was featured in my magazine of choice "Star Hits."
One of the most sensual songs ever written. Loved it ever since it was released.
Absolute classic. Hazel has had health issues in recent years, just as she was about to tour with Toyah, but last I read her family said she's doing much better, I'm sure we all wish her well.
Well said.
Thank you for posting this. I wrote a similar post when this video first dropped, but apparently it got deleted. I follow her on FB. Her brother leaves updates and photos. She’s looking wonderful and hopes to make huge progress in her recovery this year. She misses bring out there for the fans. Looks forward to getting back out there. She is do missed and loved!!
I watched Hazel live, she was in a film called Breaking Glass , the song 8th Day is iconic, ground breaking.
You need to watch the movie Breaking Glass to really appreciate what the song means in context to the characters and the story. Hazel is criminally underrated.
Get the uk release, the American one ends weirdly
I remember this song and the movie 'Breaking Glass' like it was yesterday. Hazel is 70! That is just scary!
Geeze thanks ya bugger 😁😁
Me too....and it is a little scary. (But so is Heart's Nancy Wilson.)
Strong women volalist were topping the charts during this period with Hazel O'Connor ,Toyah Wilcox , Debbie Harry , Annie Lennox , Suzy Quattro , Kate Bush etc .
I would love a reaction to Suzi Quatro's "If You Can't Give Me Love" !!
That was the REAL girl power, not that shite by the Spice Girls.
You list the backdrop of my life. If only time could have stood still at that era. The world was a better time, not perfect, but nevertheless a better time!
I met her in London . Great lady . @@surlechapeau
Can I add Alison Moyet to your epic list? 🤗
I need you to listen to 'Eigth Day' Hazel's other hit from the film 'Breaking Glass' very prophetic but very 80s
Love this song. It's in my everyday playlist.
Suggestion : STOP by SAM BROWN for next Female Friday x
Yes, I put this suggestion after nearly every female Friday reaction
I saw Hazel perform live back in 1984 at a free concert in Hyde Park after a cnd march. I was 16 at the time. Great memory... great tune!
this song will never age timeless masterpiece, hazel and wesley are a perfect 10........
Omg Amber, I so loved your comments as I agree the song with the sax takes you away and makes you close your eyes and float to heaven!
So many great songs have slipped under the radar over the years
This is one of them
So glad Hazel is recovering from her illness
This was one of the first singles, I bought as a young teenager. Thank you for sharing this. 👵🇬🇧❤
One of the best songs ever.
My home town of Coventry, where Hazel is from, was killing it back then. Happy days.
Finally you got to this guys thanks 😍🇬🇧🏴🇨🇮🏴🏳️🌈
I have been telling you for a long time to listen to this.
I saw this live a few years ago and they teased the audience with an even longer pregnant pause before the saxophone solo, which made me think they weren't going to play it ... but then it was unleashed in all its exquisite glory, and by the end there was hardly a dry eye in the house, I'll never forget it !
Jealous! Love your description of it.
Saw Hazel around 1990/91 at Leeds Poly. She was to play the Irish centre, but their was an issue and played the poly instead.
This track is the perfect blend of three threads in a beautifully told story of yearning: the lyrics, her voice and that haunting delivery by the sax. This has long been one of my favourite songs ever. A memory of something we can all relate to in life, perfectly formed and perfectly delivered.
I'm so glad you guys have finally found it. Keep up the good work. Love and peace.
The sax solo is widely considered one of the greatest ever recorded. I can’t think of many four minute pop songs that had a two minute long solo. Just incredible tone, phrasing and emotion.
Loved Hazel in Breaking Glass still got my vinyl soundtrack, she fits in nicely with Kate Bush, Toyah and the amazing Horse McDonald, wow, how time flies😮
"Eighth Day" was her breakout hit and the song she's best known for in UK. From the same "Breaking Glass" soundtrack.
Stunning. The song is noted for its lengthy alto saxophone solo, played by Wesley Magoogan. I was at the Scorpio studio in Euston Road when he cut the track. A memory to cherish.
You should listen to the rest of the album & watch the film. Hazel O'Connor was plucked from obscurity to star in the film, then composed & sang every song.
Absolutely love this song! I met hazel after a gig in Edinburgh a few years back. She lost all the rights to the music from 'breaking glass'. The irony of the film represents what actually happened in life.
You should check out her later works too.
1980 Hazel ruled the UK charts!
Thanks for reacting to this, it's been years and years since I heard this song. An almost forgotten classic!
omg my youth rekindled loved this songx
I absolutely love the sax on this song
It brought more life to this song
And I have never heard the sax played as good or emotional as this song
Lena Lovich . Lucky number
The song John Lennon heard and said Yoko they heard you!
What would Hazel O'Connor be without Lene Lovich?
Great suggestion 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Her name is Lene Lovich.
Yes!
Judie Tzuke: Stay with me till dawn❤️
Yes, superb!!!
Eighth Day is Stormin'... Haze's commentary on the far right and prejudice in the UK at the time was Damming. I so loved Hazel O'Connor as an artist in the 80's Along with Ian Dury and of course Elvis Costello...
One of the greatest singles ever, nowt else to say.
Never heard this or her before. Just stunning.
Must be about two years since I suggested this track, where have you been !!!
Hi Guys. It is worth watching the whole film. Hazel wrote all the songs in the film some of the other songs are really good too.
This sax solo by Wesley MsGoogan is the greatest Sax solo EVER..... and Amber, with your love of saxes featured in songs -- I was wondering when you were going to get to it! Hooray for you! You came through again!
Will You is one of the greatest tracks of all time !
I had the huge pleasure of being in a Brighton LGBT choir where we sang backing on about 6 songs with Hazel once in Hove and again in London. It was so good and Hazel was so enthusiastic and just a really lovely person. One of the great memories of my life.
Your reaction was priceless. You know what you like guys. Amber, your appraisal was so eloquent and knowledgeable. When I first heard 'will you' I was blown away by the sax and the lyrics too. I agree, even better than Baker Street.
aww wow, what a great track to react to!!! absolutely loved hazel o'connor. love that you both enjoyed it so much! cheers! great vid.
Another great song from that era, though no sax solo, is Judie Tsuke, Stay With Me Till Dawn.
and "For You"
Definitely.
A great wee suggestion for a FF review. You won't regret it.
So glad you guys have introduced this song to a new generation as it is what i call a forgotten hit as you never see it on compilation albums or here it on radio stations playing music from the era. Always loved it, recommended it a while back so thank you.
Thank you so much for doing this Song request! I’ve been looking forward to you guys doing this one and it’s given me a massive lift when I needed it most.❤
Oh about time you done hazel I’ve been asking for this since the start of your channel
Hazel and Siouxsie made my 80’s so f’kin cool… loving your reviews guys 😊
For anyone who likes the sax on this track, a short instrumental version of ‘Will You’ by the Sax player Wesley Magoogan is available. It’s great 🎷😊
One of my all time favourite songs, blessings from the UK.
Pleasantly surprised to see you do this classic!
Hi Jay and Amber! It's Andrew Erroch fae Paisley in Scotland here. Wow! Hazel O'Connor. That takes me back. You might also want to add the movie 'Breaking Glass' to your list to watch on your Movie Reaction channel. This was the theme song and Hazel O'Connor starred in it along with Phil Daniels. You must also react to her biggest UK hit 'Eighth Day'. I think you'll love it. Æx 🙏
Great movie, if you can find it, tells you alot about the music "industry". I sang this song live with Hazel O'Connor on her UK tour. Only 70 in the theatre so she invited us all down to the front rows so we could all sing with her; I know all the songs by heart. Wonderful.
This is one of my favourite songs OF. ALL. TIME.
this is her biggest hit ever, and the sax is so sexy, it sings/cries and shouts at you, this is one of my all time faves song
Such a magnificent track, and never fails to bring a tear to my eye. Great that there are people out there still to hear it for the first time. Simply the greatest sax solo in any song IMO. Hazel starred in a British movie called "Breaking glass" where the visuals are referenced from, and it's worth a watch as well. Has to be in my all time top 10 tracks....and I am a heavy rock fan more than anything, but you cannot dislike brilliance like this.
Ohh my god , that sax solo ! He played his soul out ! Magnificent.....
Possibly my favourite song of all time. Loved the movie Breaking Glass and every song on the album.
Yah, I suggested this 2 years ago, long time to wait, but I am glad you liked it, like I knew you would.
Such an iconic song from the 80's.
Eighth Day was fantastic as well
Absolutely about time!
I only discovered this song a few years ago.
Brilliant sax at the end!!
Great song & one of the best Sax solos
Yes at last you have discovered another hidden gem, and a brilliant vocal artist thank you.
Takes me back to my early teens, evokes many memories and emotions ❤
I knew you would love the sax in this song , maybe even better than baker st .
Hadn't really heard much of her stuff, but my ex was a big fan do we went to see her doing an acoustic set with a traditional Irish folk musician which also had a large storytelling element about how her success in the eighties basically put her in massive debts that she was still paying off, it was a brilliant gig and I ended up having a drink and chat with her for over an hour afterwards and she is a fantastic lovely person
Her songs are so well written...monsters in dusquise wearing bowler hats...black man eighth day...all are great
I am so glad that you reacted to Hazel singing this wonderful song. I have been enjoying it "for ever". And that sax. wow.
I still play this in my car loudly ❤
she was of an era when eccentric British female singers were all over the charts. Kate was the Queen of alternatives but there was also Siouxsie, Toyah wilcox & Hazel. Then there was Alison moyet, Sade, Kim Wilde, Bonnie tyler & Annie lennox who were the more mainstream global success females.
Shout out for Danielle Dax❤
You guys with love all in the instruments in "Music" by John Miles from 1976
Great song great album great film
Man! This is the type of groove I I can sink my teeth into…
Duran Duran opened for Hazel O’Connor’s tour in 1980.
I recommended this a couple of years ago. Been a constant favourite of mine since the early 80’s. Amazing voice, amazing sax.
magnificent - saw Hazel in 1989 and she hit that song with all the emotion imaginable.
Yesss! So pleased you got to this fabulous sax solo ❤❤
