@@dndbuildsIt would be accurate to both shows actually, he does go into a sort of frenzied rage with the red eye parts. I noticed GS in the main show is also pretty damn intelligent. He knew to use flour against the Not-Beholder (that I don’t remember the name of) to bait it into blowing itself up.
He would have a LOT less levels in Barbarian in the main show. Maybe up to 3 for Berserker but he’d probably have more of a focus in the Abridged series.

The starting "Ranger" class pick is actually VERY lore accurate. In the canon prequel series "Goblin Slayer: Year One' when he first signs up and is filling out his registration sheet...which is pretty much his Character Sheet by DnD standards, the new to the town guild at the time Guild Girl notes that he has "1 in Ranger, 1 in Fighter, and.." the third is left unknown but given he was trained by a Rhea (Hobbit) named "Burgler" (obvious LOTR reference) it's likely he has 1 in Rogue as well, especially since he CAN use a lock pick but he's not the best at it, stating it's not his main class.

Honestly, Goblin Slayer spends a LOT of time learning about the world and tactics and such and even underhanded stuff. I'd almost argue that multiclassing the last 4 levels into Rogue for sneak attack, expertise, and some others would be good. He is very pragmatic and takes every piece of information he gains in order to maximize his abilities to killing a goblin. Different tactics for different encounters.
(EDIT:) I still very much like this build. I thought of the rogue add-on because I believe they call his weapon a short sword, at one point, so finesse sneak attacks wouldn't be put of the question (with some stat changes). Overall, this is a very solid ranger build. Love it.

    • @ericpeterson8732

Zealot Barbarian's 14th level feature fits quite thematically with Goblin Slayer. (Rage Beyond Death* if I recall correctly)
Since GS wears the equivalent of Half-Plate, proficient with all weapons and shields, Rage causes his Improvised Weapons to hit harder (like his Shield), and the Danger Sense to evade Goblin Traps.
I think Barbarian fits quite well. Even his helmet without the horns being cut off, gives off Barbarian vibes.

    • @Lorkanthal
      @Lorkanthal 11 месяцев назад +1

@@Battleguild except GS doesn't fight like how you would expect a barbarian would so having him be almost entirely barbarian levels seems wrong. Thematically I would go with some mix of fighter; for the general combat skills, rogue; for the skills and the more uniquely styled plans; and barbarian for the rage.

    • @Battleguild
      @Battleguild 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@Lorkanthal
I view Goblin Slayer as a type of Barbarian such as Conan, who is an incredible strategist and isn't mindless in his rage.
Goblin Slayer's rage is atypical of standard Barbarians, whose rages are depicted as hot and passionate, his rage is cold and calculating.
While I did mention the 14th level feature of the Zealot Barbarian, the subclass's other features also aligns with Goblin Slayer's feats, such as: blade coating, refusing undesirable results, and inspiring nearby allies.
Though I do agree that Goblin Slayer absolutely has other levels in some combination of: Fighter, Ranger, and/or Rogue.
      My combination would be:
      3 Fighter (Battlemaster)
      2 Ranger
      1 Rogue

I could see him as a Mark of finding human
    Mark of Finding
If your Human has the Mark of Finding, replace all Racial Traits found in the Player's Handbook with these, except for Age, Alignment, Size, and Speed.
Ability Score Increase. Your Wisdom score increases by 2, and your Constitution score increases by 1.
Darkvision. You can see in dim light within 60ft. of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can't discern colors in darkness, only shades of grey.
Hunter's Intuition. Whenever you make a Wisdom (Perception) or a Wisdom (Survival) check, you can roll a d4 and add the number rolled to the total ability check.
Finder's Magic. You can cast the Hunter's Mark spell with this trait. Starting at 3rd level, you can also cast the Locate Object spell with it. Once you cast either spell with this trait, you can't cast that spell again until you finish a Long Rest. Wisdom is your Spellcasting Ability for these spells.
Languages. You can speak, read, and write Common and Goblin.
Spells of the Mark. If you have the Spellcasting or Pact Magic class feature, the spells on the Mark of Finding Spells table are added to the spell list of your Spellcasting class.
    Mark of Finding Spells
    Spell Level Spell
    1st Faerie Fire, Longstrider
2nd Locate Animals or Plants, Locate Object
    3rd Clairvoyance, Speak With Plants
    4th Divination, Locate Creature
    5th Commune With Nature
It grants some neat bonuses and a free use of hunters mark a day, sure your feat progression is slowed but it’s far from the worst.

Focusing on Finesse Melee Weapons and Range Attacks would increase the effectiveness of your attacks and actually get your AC to that peak point quicker.
I would use Medium Master for like a Feat during the level ups, and take as your first Feat (Variant Human), Crossbow Expert to be able to switch between weapons easily.
I would also take those final 4 levels for Rogue (either Assassin to take advantage of surprise and stronger Sneak Attack or Inquisitive to lean into the investigative and tactical fighter he is)

Btw if anyone is interested Goblin Slayer actually has his own TRPG. Main edition + 2 supplements so far I think. However not sure if it was translated into english yet.
As for choosing ranger as a class, it is fairly fitting, since in manga (both primary and spinoffs) other parties usually employ him when they are looking for someone who would fill mainly "scout" role. Furthermore multiclassing into fighter seems very lore friendly.
Loved the "so screw that option".

So I like this idea, but I might suggest a few changes in the way you level.
Levels 1 to 5: Hunter ranger. Feats are medium armor master at 1, and shield master at 4, giving him a variety of techniques to use. 16 dex is more than enough for now.
Then, we swap to battle master fighter to 3. Your fighting styles will be dueling and archery. This way, you get maneuvers, multiple fighting styles, and two attacks. This turns into a very versatile goblin hunter which is what he is. If you want the level 6 ranger features before BM fighter, that works too.
Since most games dont go beyond 10 anyways, grabbing the bm levels early increases your versatility early on, and let's you see what this character truly is about.
Fantastic concept though. I'm definitely making this character.

Is it possible to add more intelligence and less charisma? Because goblin slayer was looked down upon for, even beginner adventurers look down on him at the start. It wasn't until he had his group that people started to realize he was useful. Amazing vid tho, would love to see more, keep it up.

Definitely one of my favorite characters, but for now I'm just settling on using your Goku build with minor modifications, like using Mr. Popo as the patron for the Archfey warlock subclass, to make it seem more lore accurate during the training arc of the Sayain Saga (or DBZ: Abridged's Popo for the RP memes).

I would focus on Fighter, though taking enough levels in ranger for at least horde breaker, since yeah that's useful, but I'd even put a level or 2 into Barbarian. Specifically, Berserker. When your back's against the wall, and you're low, sometimes you just need that little edge that going nuts can give you.
Strength as a tertiary stat, just a 13. You don't often need strong hard strikes to kill goblins. You need precision strikes in a narrow cramped cave, not wild slashes. That'll get you killed.

This is why point buy is stupid and doesn't allow you to accurately roleplay any true hero because you have to dump at least two stats to be good at your job when heroes are generally very well rounded. Especially as a solo PC, he needs good stats to make up for the lack of a party.
