Liz for some reason my plantd are just dying. 😢 i love in Arizona now and it doesn't cool down in the summer. Will the cloth you put up in your 50/50 area work? It gets up to 111 degrees during the day and stays very warm at night. Do you have any advice. As always you are in my thoughts and prayers. ❤ Any ideas would be appreciated. Bless you. And just so you know your crying 😢😢 does not bother me, you are our friend and we understand your situation. ❤ Hang in there.

The 50% area will protect a lot of succulents that are already in that area(permanent resident for at least a month). The newly introduced plants will need to acclimate first before placed in the 50% area. A couple of weeks of slow introduction to the fully exposed 50% area will help.
In this video, I talk about the GOLDILOCK ZONE (33°F to 77°F) or growing temperature for a lot of succulents/plants. 32°F to 82°F is the minimum/maximum temperature a lot of succulents can grow before going into dormancy. When succulents are dormant, they have the appearance of losing leaves, dehydrated/soft leaves, dying look. Some are dying, others will wake up/grow when the temperature cools down.
111°F will send a lot of succulents into comatose condition. They will stop growing. Sedum, Echeveria, Crassula, Haworthia, Graptopetalum, Pachyphytum, Dudleya, Senecio, Aloe, etc, etc, etc....The list goes on. The only ones that will continue to grow in that heat if shaded from afternoon sun are the frilly Echeverias, Lithops(to a ceratin extent/placement), Aeonium is placed in shaded areas, some pachyveria and graptoveria. The rest will stop growing and will lose a lot of their leaves.
If the plant is really dehydrated(wrikled, soft leaves)....I would take it indoors where it's cooler and soaked it until all the soil is saturated and plant hydrated. This can take hours to sometimes days depending on plant condition. Good luck🥰

Really wish I lived in that goldilocks zone. As I’ve aged I’ve grown to hate Perth summers. Many succulents struggle through summer here. I have to be their water nurse throughout summer. 🤣 I love seeing sweet Pedro at the end of your videos. 🥰 What I like about your vlogs is the random, natural conversation. If I want something specific I will do a search for it as there’s plenty succulent videos to find here in RUclips. Keep being you Liz & try not to succumb to requests too much. I enjoy anything you share with us because there’s always some useful knowledge to be gained from your experiences that you share. I could watch you clean and water your succulents for hours. lol

I find that since most succulents go dormant when the temperature gets too high, I tend to water them a lot less in summer, but do give a lot of water to the frillies and succulents with thin leaves. Thanks very much for watching, Susan. Have a fantastic day!🥰

After a nasty viral i am binge watching the videos. Thank you for sharing your beautiful love story with us. I have always admired you and u have been my succulent guru. If frost is a problem there here its the relentless long summers where i have casualties and then the rains. But i look at it as a challenge, pedro always there to sample food , succulents and soil too.

I have just pinned a comment by Kathypecoraro in this video regarding dying plants in summer heat. It might give you insights into what to do with succulents in summer.
The height of Summer for me is spent indoors watching cricket, since a lot of succulents goes dormant at this time. 😁I hope your feeling better and well. Thanks for watching, Swati and have a great day!🥰

I love that little pot that looks like a person, I think it's really cute. As usual I am totally in love with your succulents, and the odd cactus. They are all so colourful and Pretty. I really wish I had access to so many varieties of Succulents. I am in Alberta Canada and my choices for these lovely succulents is lousy. LOL We just don't get them in our stores. If there is something I like on-line, in Canada I will buy it. But nothing as different as your's. I adore Your Pink Witch, succulent. It's so pretty. Love hearing you talk about your life and your plants.

Liz, i enjoy watching you navigate and share your experiences with your little cutties.
As always, my take away highlight of your video was the dormacy chapter. There is so much conflicting information on the internet, in reference to succulents. Do you have a favorite website/s you use for reference to determine the dormacy of each species? Or does that just come with time, the longer you observe their growing habit?
Trying to determine Superbum dormacy period. I read it's dormant in winter
Thank you for all your sharing. I hope you have a fanatics week and have lots of giggles of memories. ❤~m

When I first started growing succulents, there are a few websites, youtube channels, facebook groups that killed a lot of my succulents.🤣Because I listened to their advice. That's when I started observing, experimenting and logically growing my succulents.
The only useful websites for me and still presently use is Wikipedia & World of Succulents. It provides info on the ORIGINS of the plants that I found very useful.
Superbum "grows" in the GOLDILOCK ZONE. If grown outdoors in summer, but it stops growing when it gets too hot(over30°C/86°F). But...if brought indoors in a contolled, airconditioned environment, they continue to grow and will only stop growing when temperature gets too cold for them. In conclusion....Superbum dormancy is Winter & Summer. Have a lovely day and thanks for watching.🥰
