    nice one Rich, always a pleasure to see your outings. bummer about that woods that got the chop, you wouldn’t believe how many others I follow that have been through that same experience recently. sobering to realise that the nature we love is just someone’s cash crop for harvesting. sad thing that.

    • @CottonBud
      @CottonBud  2 года назад +1

      Thank you TF! Yeah I resisted the instinct to be judgemental as I know we all use wood and it has to come from somewhere. But all the same, it made me very sad indeed. And to think how paranoid I am about anyone thinking I may be having an 'impact' on nature by kipping in it for a few hours, when it could all be bulldozed tomorrow, acres and acres of it. And this is before HS2 - the last frame of the vid is on the hill where it will be passing under. This is one of the reasons I'm so keen to get out locally and capture my area on film - I fear much of it will either be inaccessible or totally mown down before long. Anyway, cheers for watching and commenting. Rich. 👍

      I never seem to get to camp early enough to enjoy anything before dark, so I tend to drag the mornings out! Thanks Ash, it was great, and I reckon you’d like the TJM grill thingy. Could do your tomahawk steak really slowly up high, then reverse sear it at the end! Cheers for the watch and comment mate. Rich 👍

      Cheers Lee. Yeah it's a trusted spot that, been a few times, and it always looks so different each time - especially now they've cut the conifers down near it, there's lots more daylight (but more risk of being seen 😬). Pack will get a lot of use I think, very clever little design. Cheers mate! Rich 👍

There's me worrying about Leave No Trace, putting leaves back just so etc, and the folk that 'own' it think nowt of mowing down an entire forest 😂

      Thanks Mark. Yeah a nice pack, although not the most comfy at that weight and distance I find! I've been made soft by Ospreys I think. It was a nice balance of roughing it and spoiling myself though, and the nature was indeed just the tonic. Cheers for watching mate. Rich.

      Thank you GS. A beer garden does give a much appreciated chance to get the pack off and 'rehydrate' whilst also putting a nice spring in one's step 😀. Be good if they had them two thirds of the way up a fell eh? A bothy with a bar. Looking out of the window at the awful weather here I'm guessing you postponed your camp this week? Another great vid Rich - nice to see your revised kit out in use after reading your blog article. Gave me a few ideas for reconfiguring my kit for the next time I'm out... I've also got a TJM fire anchor - had it for a few years now - they really are the business! I like the gentle pace and atmosphere of your filming. Very calm and assured. Looking forward to the next one mate, all the best, Andy

    • @CottonBud
      @CottonBud  2 года назад +1

      Very kind words again Andy, thanks. 'Calm and assured' are not words I would use to describe myself by any means, so it just goes to show the illusion of filmmaking 😅The TJM is quite a thing - although the Cordura bag for it is equally great - could be used as a kneel pad no problem! Likewise, I look forward to hearing how you get on with your tweaked kit. Cheers. Rich 👍

      I won't lie Jimmy, this pack is smaller than I realised but it will be perfect when I don't need to take such thick clothes with me! Hi Rich, thanks as always for sharing another great video, it's hard to beat a decent burger when out camping.
    I had the Ionosphere for a short while and enjoyed using it. I only sold it on because I preferred the Dutch hooped bivvy, it also helped finance the hex peak purchase! You've got an impressive amount of kit into that pack, top Tetris marks to you sir!! it's got me thinking about upcoming camps in which I plan to use my Helikon Bergen! It's a great pack though, I was talking to Des about it the other day and we were both saying how it could be so much better if it was just a little bit bigger 👍

    • @CottonBud
      @CottonBud  2 года назад

      Thanks Barney. Yeah I agree, it is oddly titchy for a Bergen! The thing I'm not mad on is the inner flaps on the pouches - the pouches themselves are surprisingly spacious, but getting stuff in and out is a snaggy mare sometimes. Otherwise though I'm over the moon with it and will use it loads on day camps and lightweight overnighters. I don't use the Ionosphere that often but I'm glad I kept hold of it as it is a nice change sometimes. Once again, indebted to you and Des for all the great kit you've showcased on your channels. Cheers for the support once again mate. 👍

    Argh! Nothing worse than a sleeping pad failure. I had this happen with two Trekology UL40s, but they were cheap, and I shouldn't have expected too much. Therma-Rest is quite a good make from what I can gather. I can't believe it let you down. Has there been customer service helped replace the pad or resolve the issue? xx

    • @CottonBud
      @CottonBud  2 года назад

      Yeah the daft thing is I have a UL80 too and that has been fine - yet THEY are supposed to be notorious! I'm in a bit of a limbo with it to be honest Rachel as I had it in the bath a couple of days ago to see where the leak may be and there wasn't a single bubble came from it, anywhere. So I slept on it that night, just in the house, and yet it still slowly deflated through the night. I believe Thermarest just do the bath test anyway when you send them back, so they'll probably say it's perfectly fine! I need to get in touch but I'm dreading the mither, I sense it will be a long, drawn out and frustrating one... hugely disappointed, as I felt I was really biting the bullet with this, paying through the nose for the best brand, but on something that will get used loads, for many years. It only managed half a dozen camps, and the last three showed signs of this problem 😕

  • @ScoutManSteve
    @ScoutManSteve 2 года назад

    Nice chilled out video Rich! What do you make of that pack, I've had my eye on it, but I was a bit dubious with its size? I do think the ponchos are a very underated bit of kit to be honest, but just goes to show how handy they can be.
    All the best fella 👍

    • @CottonBud
      @CottonBud  2 года назад +1

      Thanks Steve. The Poncho was as much there to cover me and the pack easily if caught walking in a shower, but got more use as a sitting area in the end. For 20 quid or so it's a no brainer, and it also fits with my Swagman Roll perfectly for a warm and dry 'big coat'!
      I'm still in the honeymoon period with the Bergen - it IS surprisingly small and forces tough decisions when packing, particularly in winter of course. The top pocket is particularly tiny - barely get a hat and gloves in there. But perfect as a generous day pack, and adaptable for overnighters with strapping/webbing other stuff onto it. Early days yet, but the build quality inspires confidence - really nice tough Cordura, that has a very pleasant sound and feel when handled that says 'trust me'. If their Matilda pack is basically a bit bigger version of this, it may be worth looking at that if primarily for overnighters though? Either way I think you'll like it and find uses for it.
      Cheers for the watch and comment boss - hope you are out and about, and that we may see you posting content back here soon enough. Take care. Rich. 👍
