    Sometimes a video come along on RUclips that just ticks all the boxes. This was, in my view, your best video yet Rich. Beautiful editing and storytelling; calm and relaxing. The effort that goes into making vlogs of this quality needs major respect! It takes ages and it totally pays off. Absolutely loved this and thank you. - Ben 👍

      @CottonBud  10 месяцев назад +1

      Wow you have really made my morning Ben - very kind words, thank you! Yeah it is an irony that the more relaxed a camp seems on RUclips, often the more hard work has gone into it 😅. I love it though, as I'm sure you do - it doesn't always happen, but when you know you've got lucky with weather and location and captured something half decent and you can't wait to get back and edit it together, that's a great feeling. Almost as good as camping! I hope the weather is in your favour as we move into spring sir, and I look forward to some more Londoner adventures. Cheers my friend. Rich 👍

    Watching after seeing this video recommended by Ben's Hikes and Camps. I don't camp myself (just hike) but find camping videos very relaxing. Beautifully filmed and lovely sounds of the fire and the stream.

      @CottonBud  10 месяцев назад

      Yeah I did think 'what's the worst place to camp on a still, cold frosty night? Oh yeah, at the bottom of a steep valley' 😅. To be honest the -4 was a conservative guess as that was the temp in the nearby town - it may well have been a bit less where I was. I struggled with the fire - the wood wasn't much cop, I need to educate myself more in identifying good species for firewood. Well, at least the sun came pouring into the gulley by 9am! Hence my grateful defrosting... thanks for watching and commenting sir! Rich 👍

      Cheers Mick - yeah it's certainly a step up this camera, but it still struggled in the cold - it went from 100% charged to 14% next morning without being used! That's why the morning bit ended up a bit brief 😅. Nice one pal. Rich 👍

      Cheers Tim. I still keep 'hearing things' in the bubbling stream occasionally, which freask me out for a few seconds. However, being a grown man with a tiny bit of self respect left I don't try and make that into a 'Something Spooky Making Noises In The Woods' video, unlike certain eejits on RUclips these days 🤣.

    This is awesome mate, one of your best yet. Easily. Great shots and enjoyable to watch, except for the rice scraping which made me shudder and think of nails on the school blackboard 🤣
    Brilliant. What mat and pump are you using? I’m on the market for something decent, finally. Been making do with a cheap foil thing.

    • @CottonBud
      @CottonBud  10 месяцев назад +1

      Haha I totally agree about titanium on titanium - it didn't sound that bad when I was there but playing it back made my teeth itch 😅. I had a wooden spoon with me n'all! Anyway, cheers Chris, always means a lot coming from a pro like yourself. Pump is just a Flextail mini one (I wish I'd got the one with the lantern built in to be honest...) and mattress is the Thermarest XTherm. Painfully pricey but just about the warmest you can get, and a bit more robust than their slightly lighter Xlite (the yellow one you see everywhere). Right, I've seen you've uploaded what looks like a nice crisp and sunny January coffee vid, so I'm all over it! 👍

    When anyone asks, " Why do you camp in the woods?" I will send them a link to this video.

    • @CottonBud
      @CottonBud  10 месяцев назад +1

      Haha! I’ll take that thank you. But overwhelmingly the main response I find is all to do with the cold… even many people who happily camp in the woods for three seasons say ‘I can’t wait for spring when I can start camping again’ as if winter camping is impossible or unenjoyable. From late autumn to early spring in the best time in the UK, in my opinion - especially for an open tarp and bivvy camp like this. No bugs and slugs! Cheers for watching and the kind words. Rich 👍

  • @ScoutManSteve
    @ScoutManSteve 10 месяцев назад +1

    One of my favourite tarp setups, simple and effective. Might have to do this myself again soon! I've been wearing barefoot shoes for a while now and really rate them, can I ask how you find the vivo boots? Been looking at the trackers myself, but I can see you have the forest version.

    • @CottonBud
      @CottonBud  10 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah I realised that despite using the plough point a few times over the years, I'd never actually done it in a video. It was one of those nights where the breeze was due to swing round a good 90° or more between dusk and dawn, and I was able to pitch it so I stayed sheltered all the way through.
      Boots are great! I got sore heels walking for quite a few miles on tarmac with them when I first got them - you really do get the full shock of each step on the soles of your feet, so not necessarily the best for that (although you are supposed to 'toughen up' over time I beleive). But in the woods and even going up into the hills they are ace, and have so far been completely waterproof (even when I walked through an ankle deep ford about 6 times in a row on Dartmoor). A few months in, I'm loving them...
      Cheers Steve! 👍
