Nice video... but you never mentioned what polar pattern you used on her vocals. Do you remember what you used?

Besides knowing your stuff , what to learn from Joe Carrell? Be a nice , open communicative Dude in the Studio. No stress! Might come out something cool. Personality won't be substituted by any gear.

Hi, I love the series Joe! Had a quick educational question about something I noticed. The WA-47 has a dedicated power supply yet you're still sending it +48V from the WA73-EQ. Is this normal practice? Can it damage the WA-47? I've never engaged +48V on a microphone that has a dedicated power supply. Thanks in advance! -Kris

Thanks for watching Kris. You are correct, the WA47 does not require phantom power. My guess is it was switched on earlier to record the guitar part with the WA87 and wasn’t de-activated. Anything with an external power supply wouldn’t require phantom power as you noted.

Joe , why did you use compression with one guitar and not the other ?

Can you explain “-18dB going into pro tools, you know right at digital unity”.... Why is -18 digital unity, I have alway associated that with having the faders on my live sound mixer as having the fader at the 0 position... thanks! .

ckjjclan yes sir good question. Most DAWs are by default set to meter -18 digital when analog 0 zero is reached. So since an average analog VU reading of zero is optimum on many pieces of outboard, a quick glance at your DAW meters can let you verify you are getting good clean levels recorded into your software. Obviously peaks can be well above -18, but an average of -18 will nearly always ensure you are in good shape. Not getting enough DAW input, as well as, overdriving a large quantity of inputs signals both can have negative sonic consequences. Do double check your DAW preferences to ensure it is currently set to -18 though some have options. Thanks for watching!

Hey did you record the 47 into the 1073 then use the WA2A in the mix? Or did you use all 3 together during tracking the vocals? Thanks

Curtis Igunbor I did indeed compress during the recording process. Thanks for watching.
