I have been listening to john mayer since 2001 and I knew all about the co writing with clay cook, but I have never seen clay perform those songs until I watched this. After 10 years of me loving this song and hearing be done by my favorite musician (john mayer) then I hear clay cook play it, and I have to say... his version is better. When clay cook plays this I feel like im getting the meaning behind the song, the true and raw emotion with which the song was originally written.
he co-wrote, more as a producer , editing mostly. John would come with many verses and they would narrow it down, clay said this in an interview. i believe john was the primary writer (musically as well)
Well, not really, sir. Clay himself told that his work was more like a producer. He co-wrote some of his songs. But mostly choosing wich verses would go into the song, or words, he helped with some chords. But the biggest part was john's.
puchalaka, I actually recorded alot of those shows at eddies. What no one realizes is that clay wrote MOST of that first CD of John's. I was pretty pissed when he didn't get much credit for it. John was always the consumate front man. John is an amazing performer and guitarist but credit where credit is due. Clay and a few other people including myself got the bastards name out there.

I've said this before, but if you study the chords across mayers career, its obvious something was different on the first album

but I would like to add, Mayer is still an incredible guitarist, and lyricist, but his actual songwritting, in terms of chords isnt a ptch on clays
