Watching this in 2022. What an amazing version. You can see why he's still around now. So much talent and crikey what awesome guitar playing. Incredible stuff.
The studio version of this was one of my favorites of Mayer, but now that i have heard this version i really want to get this on my ipod. Thankyou John for actually being good live.
0:12 Those women are having a joke at John Mayer's expense! Little did 'they' know. How big John was going to turn out. *And for the hosts, they are now unemployed.* An awesome performance of this song from John's 'Heavier Things' album. 👍👍 🎸🎸 Nothing 'junior' about Mayer! 😉
Still one of my favorite performances by him. I think he's actually a better acoustic player than electric possibly, not too many people play acoustic with this level of complexity. Definitely inspired me as a player to use the whole neck. I can't really think of anyone else that came after him who plays like this. Dave Matthews sort of preceded him, though they're very different artists overall. John is in some ways the last singer songwriter guitarist to really make it big.
The sound he gets with just himself, his acoustic, and a bassist (a hell of a bassist at that) is just incredible. Goes to show... it doesn't take much when you're the real deal.
Yea that comment made me think like "who the hell are you to talk to JM like that" but i think that it inspired him to show them up, perfect performance
In his recent JM SOLO tour, he said he can't play bigger than body on an acoustic. But he already did! I guess he forgot about his capabilities on an acoustic!
He really looked hurt when they started jabbing back at him. I really couldn't hear what John said but he normally has a pretty good sense of humor so it couldn't have been anything too "harsh" or "off-color." Don't really think he deserved to be roasted like they did to him.
This makes the best case I've seen for what a good guitarist Mayer really is, pulling off this tune with a single acoustic and electric bass arrangement - and what XXX-ceptional bass playing!
he is amazing.he sounds the exact same as he does in the recorded version.he is amazing at guitar too.basically he is an all round talent !i love him!hopefully hes gonna be remembered as one of the great talents in music
i remember this one... i watch the whole show at that time! he was doing the interview for the whole hour on the show! he was really funny!! he was only supposed to be interviewed for 30 minutes but because he was havin so much fun, he came back for the second half of the show and did another 30 minutes! does anyone have the whole show??? i really want to watch it again!
i know of this site that you can convert youtube videos online into like any format. i use it all the time to get mp3 versions of songs i like, like live versions ya know.
I remember seeing that they were going to be having John as a guest performer on the show, made sure I had a VHS tape stuffed in the VCR to record this performance hoping I could somehow crack the code of how he played it. Like with Neon, it helped to have big thumbs. LOL🤣
"Why did he come on the GD show?" Bcuz he is a multi grammy award winner and wildy popular - not to mention insanely talented. He knows his way around a 6-strings - that for sure. I am not a big JM fan, but how is these auz-holes don't know him. I would have walked off saying "G-Day Mates going to grab a junior meal!"

i play and sing too and i can agree with elision on that part. the best way to play is to close your eyes and rock out regardless of what's going on around you. And i do make unintentionally stuffs right at the start of any song.
ok ok there is two much krap about dmb and john mayer, personaly my favoirte artist is john mayer he puts so much in two his music wich i think is true , but i do love dave mathews band, to me dave mathews band looks older john i think is not even 30 yet and he j=just has this feel with his guitar such a feel i cant describe it really wich i think its so rad to have
More captain silent on the bass, might as well have been playing the bass the fish. What's the point in playing a bass line that doesn't cut through???
@@XylozQuin It might be time for a new pair of cans, pal. I can hear LaBruyere groovin' just fine. i like the fact that this "mcdonalds-kid" is about 10 times as famous as the hosts and makes about 100 times more money then them ;)
STILL to this day! and they are?
Dude was likely already more famous and more rich than that nobody right then and there.
Those numbers are more like 10,000 and 100,000 now
I love the introduction, Kate Lanbrroek makes a complete fool of herself. I wonder if she cringes now seeing how successful and talented John is!!!
I guess Im quite randomly asking but do anyone know a good site to watch newly released tv shows online ?
@Jayson Fisher thank you, I went there and it seems like a nice service :D I really appreciate it!!
@Karsyn Mayson no problem xD

Careful who you make fun of...They might play the guitar really well.
He looks so pissed when they are talking!! LOL!!!

It's a little sad that these videos aren't on high definition
Here in 2023 but freakin out this vídeo was posted 16y ago

"Ipod" omg ancient

@muppetfan12 lol had me chuckling.
Haha remember when iPods were a thing? I don’t
miss my ipod...

Backup bass helps more than you think
It's so incredible how every time you hear him live it sounds just as incredible as a studio recording
Real talent.
this song has been in my head for dayyyyssss...... best version right here.
Sameee...
that face of disgust for no talent was priceless way to go john.
david labruyere is such a underrated bassist, perfect arregements.
Agreed!

The strumming for this version is sick, and same with vocals ...5 stars and saved
DeLa is killing it!
An extraordinary performance.
Heavier Things, needs to be remastered. Voice doesn’t cut through and lyrics are important.
Insanely great version of this song...
haha HILARIOUS .. look how offended John seems to be at the start when the woman says he'll be outside Maccas with a Junior Meal.
Love John in all live acoustic sessions.
I remember this! :D
One of the rare times when the show was filmed in Sydney...
Waited around outside afterwards and got a pic with him :)
Lmao that one bassist just chilling and vibing over there
I Love John Mayer. He is a true artist one who can sing live writes with meaning and really feels the music
0:30 John contemplating ending her life
I don't think that he thought she was very funny lol.

this version is really good. awesome guitar! and also sweet bass too!
This is the best acoustic version of "bigger than my body", and this is one of my favorite too. :)
I so love the bass guitar here !!!
HAHA, this was the first time I ever saw/heard of mayer. thanks for posting

3:24 DUDE THIS IS ANGELIC
3:24 - 3:51 is absolutely amazing
this is magic!
He is so incredibly good! It´s so unfair
Urgg... I know what you mean. No one in the UK seems to know who he is and it annoys me so much because he's just brilliant.
he's so cool. and my hero...although i could never have half the confidence he does
12 years later how’s the confidence going? 😂
hi from 2020. ı still have dreams and yes someday ıll fly
Best acoustic version.
when are the UK gunna wake up an discover this bloke!
We love ❤️ you John here in the Philippines 🇵🇭 1:00

This is even better than the studio version.
holy shit..fucking amazing..the bassist did incredible too
it seems like he's forcing the vocals out... but he still makes it sound SO GOOD.
At this point in his life, I think he was lol. Still fantastic
@@TheGuitarislove More than likely, given the fact that he had to have surgery on his vocal chords in like 2013 or something like that
that’s how he messed up his vocal chords and why he had to eventually get surgery cuz he was hurting them with his whisper technique
i like this version
awesome
HAHAHAHA! That's exactly what that look says!
Kudos, John!
It's very very cool!!
OMG!!
He does it again...

Gotcha! Now i found you.. thank you, i download this video... :)
When John Mayer gives you that look… you’re done… 😂
bass makes it
Haha, am I the only one who sees Elvis Presley at 4:57? Great performance by the way.

wow so much talent and they gave him a gig like this?
This is a call to the colorblind
This is an IOU
Stranded behind a horizon line
Try to be something true
Yes, I'm grounded
Got my wings clipped
I'm surrounded by
All this pavement
Guess I'll circle
While I'm waiting
For my fears to dry
Someday I'll fly
Someday I'll soar
Someday I'll be
Something much more
'Cause I'm bigger than my body
Gives me credit for
Why is it not the time?
What is there more to learn? Yeah
I've shed this skin I've been tripping in
And I've never quite returned
Yes, I'm grounded
Got my wings clipped
I'm surrounded by
All this pavement
Guess I'll circle
While I'm waiting
For my fuse to dry
Someday I'll fly
Someday I'll soar
Someday I'll be
Something much more
'Cause I'm bigger than my body
Gives me credit for
'Cause I'm bigger than my body now
Maybe I'll tangle in the power lines
And it might be over in a second's time
But I'll gladly go down in a flame
If the flame's what it takes to remember my name
To remember my name, oh
Yes, I'm grounded
Got my wings clipped
I'm surrounded by
All this pavement
Guess I'll circle
While I'm waiting
For my fuse to dry (for my fuse to dry)
Waiting for my fuse to dry
Someday I'll fly
Someday I'll soar
Someday I'll be
Something much more
'Cause I'm bigger than my body
I'm bigger than my body

oh! yea. but i feel bad for him :(

i like the vocals on this one
gotta love how laid back delah is
I love the grin @ 2:59

rude.. john is making a humble joke, and they took it seriously.

quanto cazzo è bravo...
They were Australian not english. John Mayer doesn't come to the UK enough, I wish he did though he has plenty of recognition here.
whats the Dave Matthews Band?
I like how the bassist, David, appears to be just casually chewing gum off to the side, lol
Ya… these 2 broads are clueless. Sick ass talent….. both of them. And DL played on so many other artists recordings… ❤️🤟🏽🌻🙏🏽
whats the name of the bass player??
David LaBruyere
"accompanied by Dave on ACOUSTIC bass" xD

what did she mean when she said "with a junior meal" at mcdonalds? sorry haha i didnt really get what was implied
That he looks like a child. It's basically just an insult and not lighthearted banter hence he was offended
Who is the bassist
David LaBruyere (a.k.a. DeLa). He's killer on bass.
on Acoustic Bass?
The rest of Australia isn’t a fan of Kate Langbroek either. Go John 👍
nice
haha, soooo right. But ignore it, let us enjoy the great music.
Seth Green on bass with the bass face
whos dave? i know im gonna sounds stupid but who is he??
which martin guitar is this model?
I think OM28
Same as his signature model
Can you strum that fast with your fingers or is it better to use a pick?
Use a pick. After 9 years I'm sure you've figured that 😂😂
I wonder how the host that insult John during that time thinks right now! The lyrics of the song fits the situation. Hahaha
What Kind Of Martin Is That?
Is he picking or fingerpicking in this?
Stole my face
john wins
John Mayer- okay this how we make real music in America Bitches.
2018
bad australians!
hahahaha i kid. Check out the interview he did just before this. They were all joking and youll see the bit about mcdonalds.
