Very helpful, thank you. I wish you had your voice recording technique and delivery a little louder and clearer but this was a lifesaver, thank you. Now I have SO MANY questions haha
so I have some windows games I'm trying to run, when they open, they do not go Fullscreen but to a small window in the upper left corner, or I hear sound, but screen is black. any ideas?
What if the game does not require an installation (portable) ? are we able to just grab some game folders and drop into /roms/windows folder ? or is more difficult then that ?, question a side, I'm loving your videos i've watched a few of your videos, just to setup my retroarcade machine and you helped me a lot, thank you so much :)
Just dropping a windows game folder in the windows folder wont work. He has a 'How to Install Windows games Part 2' video. Watch that one, that will show you.
I have two things to ask, how do u install windows games that dose not need to be installed, could u make a video about installing steam launcher, much like how Kodi launches threw the menu
Steam launcher is not possible right now on Batocera. It would be great to have in Batocera! The developers might do it in the future, but there's no telling. Kodi works because it is built into Batocera. The developers would have to build it into Batocera. There is a way to get SOME Windows games into Batocera without installing it, and yes, I would have to do a video on it. I would like to do that video sometime this month. So look for it soon. Thanks for your suggestion.
I'd like to ask something. Let's say i have a game with expansion ( for instance, the original Starcraft with Broodwar ) how can you install the expansion inside the same userspace of the original game?
Thanks for the tutorial, excellent as always. One question, If i had a setup.exe and a .bin file in my game. Do i have to put this 2 files in the windows installers folder of batocera?
Can you do a video for batocera winetricks and maybe get the following games to work Star wars forced unleashed and Grand theft Auto IV. Games that work but need additional applications for them to run properly Dead rising 2 needs 360 controller emulator and sekiro mod engine.
hi please help me i have some cd game windows of the 90's i have got a iso of these cd and i would install these games on batocera but if i launch the iso's game batocera don't install, how can i do? thanks
Hello, did you try to run Marvel's Sprider man remastered on batocera? I can not make it work, controller do not recognizes there.... When push any button layout just changes from Playstation to Xbox and back (when release button) and nothing happens...
I get a Grey and White file browser screen with My Computer, Documents, and Trash in the large right box. After I let the blue screen do its thing. Trying to install FitGirl Repack of Fallout New Vegas. What am I doing wrong?
Is there a fix for the installation screen getting stuck behind the blue screen because it prevents us from installing gog games when you select the drive you want to install to the window disappears and pressing alt + tab doesn’t bring it back to the front, it’s an absolute nightmare trying to install, I literally have to install on windows computer and copy the game folder over and hope for the best but doesn’t work for some games, we need a fix asap
Ive been following your guide in installing Batocera and I really loved it. I cant wait for my arcade station to arrive to set it up with my old windows pc. Just a question, can Batocera run MK11 and Tekken 7? I would really appreciate it
As in the windows versions like in this vid? Well, short answer probably. As long as your PC's specs are high enough to run them. There are types of windows games you can add to Batocera Just by using the installation file or folder style linux ready. Check his other tutorial on adding folder version windows PC games.
Hello, thank you for helping me with this. I am attempting to install Sim City 4 Deluxe Edition on Batocera v.37 (2023/06/17). The game was originally installed using two CD roms. I have the images of both cd's as .ISO files (SC4DELUXE1.iso and SC4DELUXE2.iso). I moved them to my .../SHARE/roms/windows_installers/ directory, and began the installation from the emulation station / PC / windows_installers / SC4_Deluxe... folder. I began the installation by opening the disk 1 .iso, which launched the windows explorer, clicking setup.exe, and the installation began normally and was proceeding as normal as it would appear a windows machine. During the installation, it asks to "Please insert disk 2." I have tried the hotkey + x (hotkey + south on ps3 controller), as well as F1 on the keyboard, as well as many other keyboard inputs, but I cannot access disk control to insert disk number 2. If I exit to return to emulation station, it aborts the installation and if I open the disk 2.iso, it does not pick up where it left off at the end of disk one. This seems so trivial, what am I missing here, how do I switch to disk 2 during the installation? Thank you.
One thing you can try. Firstly you need to use the wine extension, not pc. Always use the wine extension as this will allow Wine to generate the folder structure inside the games folder, plus it'll make it easier to install any Redist files like, C++, DX9 ect that the game needs. There'll be a folder called dosdevices, I think it's called. In there you will see c: z: folders. Create another folder and name it d: and copy the contents of disc 2 into that folder. Not sure if it'll work as I haven't tried it myself yet.
Please excuse if it's a dumb question. Are windows and pc games the same. If not, where are pc games added. Great work, as always. Your videos are a great help to an old timer. Thank you.
Well I think technically windows games might be playable on other platforms that run windows, like a windows tablet whereas PC games are intended to run on a PC only. Least I think thats what it means. But when it comes to Batocera we have a windows folder and a windows installer folder. See Batocera Nations two diff tutorials on each one.
noticed you're using batocera club theme.... when i use that theme, there's no icon art for windows section. (even after theme update)...... did you manually set that up?
Yes, I did manually set that up. However, you can go here to download the official version: drive.google.com/drive/folders/1sp_jHCwSLpkFlfX2CBB48LCtUuDHEKAJ
For some reason it won't let me delete the games that don't work in the windows folder. When I use my laptop to delete them it starts out saying that I'm deleting over 128TB but it keeps climbing to even a PB but there's only like 10 games that should only be around a gigabyte?
Delete the windows game in file manager. Press F1 on keyboard, go to to roms folder and delete them from windows rom folder, also go to system/wine bottle and delete the wine bottle it thats created there too, if, if you are on v39. Prior to that it would be in saves, windows, proton or lutris.
good morning and thanks for the explanation I don't understand which button you press to activate the menu for the single game with scraper etc .. thank you very much
Hey, this tutorial is great but I noticed it doesn’t exactly work with Super Smash Flash 2 which is a real shame. Is there any chance you could do a tutorial on installing that game maybe? I may just be doing it wrong. Sorry if not haha
I just checked your other tutorial and it didn’t seem to work either. I would really appreciate it if you could make a tutorial for it, sorry again for any inconvenience. Thank you again tho!
How Can I access the settings.exe file of my game which is located in the game folder? Is there a way to load the game through the back end once I've changed the autorun.cmd file to run the game automatically? Also when i run the game with Lutris it seems to be running in full screen mode, but it doesnt load my saved data. Yet, Proton opens the game in windowed mode and i have to change the resolution from the batocera game settings menu to get it to run in full screen but i also see the window mode version just streched out. I do get my saves to load with the Proton emulator though. Any workarounds to all this?
In v38 alt f4 never quits the windows app and I have to hard restart the computer? Any ideas? I wish there was a way to access that windows app from the F1 menu?!? I have successfully installed a game that runs just fine when I’m in that windows menu, but nothing I can do will make it work when I’m back in the windows category on the Linux side. I’ve tried every string of text I can think of in the autorun.cmd. If there was a Khan that could launch me into the windows application, I could play the game sometime.
Very nice! but what if I don't have an installation file but a complete runnable folder with the game which contains the nameofthegame.exe file, dll files,...?
hi, congratulations on your videos :) i need some suggestions, i am trying to configure retrobat (based on batocera) but i would like to add old dos games like doom or descent and classic lucas adventures like moneky island. Where should i start?
I'm not to clear how Retrobat works. But if it is similar to Batocera, I have a DOS games tutorial on the channel. Here is the link: ruclips.net/video/zFEaSU8A89M/видео.html
What if the game does not have an installer or setup file? I downloaded a ready to go game pretty much and works fine on my pc but can’t get to work here
The Autorun.cmd file should point to the executable. It helps when all the game files are under the same folder. But it is still a hit and miss because not all Windows games are compatible. Also experiment with turning on Proton or the other one in the Advanced Menu settings.
Great video. Like all of your content. I tried installing the game Ender Lilies. I did, successfully. But, when it's time to run it, there is an error: "the following component is required to run this program. Microsoft visual c++ runtime" Do you know how to fix that? I could not find the answers in Google Thanks
Try some tweaks listed in the Required Dependencies section here: wiki.batocera.org/systems:windows#specify_required_dependencies I'm eager to try this myself! :3
it would be cool if there was some kind of a wiki page where everyone could update which windows games work and which don't. Unless there already is something like that?
Yes, that would be great! The closest that we have is from the link provided. If a Windows games runs well according to the WineHQ database, then most likely it will run in Batocera (but it's not guaranteed). Here's the link: www.winehq.org/
That's a good question. Never thought of it until you mentioned it. Try this. In the same directory/folder where the game is installed, put the DLC setup files there. Secondly, for the autorun.cmd file, temporarily change the file so that it points to the DLC setup file instead of the actual game. Finally, once it's complete, change the autorun.cmd file back to the game. Let me know if that works.
@@johnfite2567 Are you using a microsd card? I moved away from microsds. I use those mini portable external SSD drives. Great for testing things in Batocera too.
@@BatoceraNation Nah just a USB 3.0 64GB Flash drive. I shucked the portables I had. I have an external enclosure and some 1 and 2Tb drives laying around but I was just being lazy. I didn't get to try one of the ones with DLC yet. I will have to give that a go later. Out of 17 games so far very few work well. I'm running an i5 11400 with power limits removed so pretty much constant 4.2GHz across six cores. I threw in a gtx 1660 super as well. I expected better luck. Have to play with the wine settings later. I uncommented the invidia drivers in Batocerconf so that's not my issue. Katana Zero runs great though. Also PSP and PS2 at 10x internal resolution work beautifully.
@@johnfite2567 If you are having trouble with just Windows games, then it's not your computer. It's with Wine. More games should run better and more games will be compatible with Batocera 31.
In the Advanced System Setting (hold down your A button), go to the Emulator section and experiment between Proton and Lutris. There is also a setting about Converting to DirectX. Turn that on and off. Try different combos with the two settings mentioned. If none of them work, it means that the game is not compatible with Batocera.
If you have a mouse connected sometimes you can just use the cursor to maximize the window, as you would on your PC for eg. Or, go maybe you have to go to the game's video res setting and match it to your display. Ofcourse sometimes nothing works.
Hi! Thanks for an awesome chanel! tried this method. But ”modern” PC games such as London 2012, Limbo and Inside does not seem to work. Is there a way to add all pc games to Batocera?? Please advice me.
Not all Windows games will work using this method (in fact, most probably won't work). However, a lot of Windows games in Steam do work. If you have Steam , check out the Steam tutorial.
I’m pulling my hair out trying to install Marble Blast Ultra. It’s a completely free pc game from 2006. I run the installer and if I run the game from the installer without running the server it works! But then I go to make a autorun file it doesn’t work for the exe or the ink shortcut file it made. Could you help me please?
Hello Nice vidéo! But when i launch a game in windows installers, i have a warning. "your /userdata partition is formated as fuseblk, wish might not be fully supported" for information I run batocera V30 on a windows computer. have an idea? thank for your help!
I've never seen that error before. If the game works, then don't worry about it. If it is not working, then it means it's not compatible with Batocera. Windows games are a hit or miss.
@@BatoceraNation i tried games in the batocera download store, and it's the same thing. i have the same warning message and i can't do the installation.
I had an old installation on an old PC. The game successfully installed without a Setup file. Some Windows games can be copied to Batocera Windows without a Setup file since the game folder contains everything it needs to run the game. I need to do a tutorial to show people how I did this.
I cannot get this to work not sure what it is but the screen I get is similar but states warning your /userdata partition is formatted as vfat which might not be fully be supported however, wine is still generating the c: drive structure please wait a few minutes. I end up having to turn restart the computer and when I press f1 and check the files the files new ones do get made but the games never seem to work I’ve done the 2 different ways of adding the games described in the batocera page but haven’t gotten anywhere yet any help is appreciated also I don’t understand how my userdata is vfat since it’s fat32 formatted
Not all Windows games will install successfully or run at all. It's a hit and miss. If the games folder installed properly, try manually updating that file (auto...cmd file) that points to the game executable. If you try to run it and it still doesn't work, then there's not much more that you can do. It's simply incompatible.
@@BatoceraNation has to be something else because I downloaded super Mario war from the updates and downloads options and that doesn’t load either if u can try and forward it to others and see if anyone has had a similar issue I’ve checked on forums etc but I’ve tried what I could so far w no avail but I really appreciate the response batocera is awesome from someone that loved all the 90s fighters and is constantly amazed by home brews emulators and such things, batocera is freaking awesome and I can’t believe how much stuff it runs the presentation and how it’s available for free it rocks!!
Unfortunately not all Windows games are compatible with Batocera. If you try to install a game on it and it gives you an error, there's not much you can do. The error you mentioned is a Direct X error. DirectX is not as advanced in Batocera-Linux as it is in Windows. Again, there isn't anything you can do to fix it.
Hi thanks for the tutorial. I am trying to do this but my mouse doesn't work when I am installing the .exe. I can only get the mouse to work when I am in the f1 menu of Batocera. Is there a setting in Batocera I need to change that will let me use my mouse cursor? Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I am not sure how to install anything or click on windows that pop up if the mouse doesn't work.
Unfortunately the mouse cursor is turned off. However when you are installing, the mouse does work. You have to move your mouse really slow until you can click on stuff.
It has been tried and no one has been successful mainly because some games need one version of wine and other games need other versions of wine. It makes this so complicated.
Windows installer can only install Setup.exe files. Not isos. Try to uncompress the iso Windows Game CD and copy everything to the Windows Installer folder.
Awesome video man! Anyone knows a flappy bird and crossy roads version on pc without having to use BlueStacks? I'm basically putting windows games on my mini PC on the living room for the nephews. Thanks!
Great tutorial! I’m having trouble with a gog game… setup runs great and can launch from the installer. But I can’t seem to find the file to launch from batocera? I can launch dosbox but not the game itself? It’s an old game called carmageddon
I don't have any Dosbox games yet in Batocera. I have to play with it first and learn how to do it. Then create a tutorial. I suspect there is an extra step with Dosbox and that's why it's not working. Within 2 weeks, I plan to do a tutorial on Dosbox. It's in my immediate list of to do tutorials.
Everything works as in your tutorial. However the problem is only with the Auto run.cmd file? When I open c drive there is the game folder and dos box folder. There is a launch ‘game name’.lnk file which when I double click in the Windows side… it launches great and the mapped controls work etc… but can’t seem to find a way to auto run that .lnk file? And the game file is CARMA.EXE which I navigate to… but won’t launch? The game is a 1997 game called carmageddon. And I can’t find the standard win95 version which would probably work without dos box
Any help with this is much appreciated! It does run but can’t lunch from batocera. Can launch by double clicking ‘launch carmageddon.lnk in drive c but no idea how to navigate to command file to it? Thanks so much for taking the time to check this out
I think this will truly help me with my build thanks alot! Ive watched a video claiming that you only need to put them in the windows folder and change extension cant remember on the fly what it was. Is it possible to just change the extension to .wine to make it work?
Can this be done on a Batocera on a Raspberry Pi or does it have to be running inside Windows? I don't have the Windows and Windows_Installer folders in my ROMS folder.
Here's another way using ONE pc and TWO usb drives: Just thought I'd share what worked for me. So you have your USB flashed with Batocera, right. For me, I had to go with 31 for my out-of-date PC. Now how do I add ROMs to my USB? I suppose I could add ROMs via SSH but that would require me to have 2 different devices. That's out. Here's a quicker way. You have your Batocera USB flashed. Grab a second USB. The larger the capacity, the less time you'll be spending transferring ROMS. On that 2nd USB, flash it with Linux Mint. Once it's flashed with Linux Mint, open that drive and you'll see a bunch of folders. Create a NEW folder and name it whatever would be easily recognizable by you. In that folder, put your ROMS that you are going to transfer. I suggest keeping things simple and keep everything grouped by systems/emulators. Once you have these ROMS saved in the folder that is easily recognizable to the 2nd drive just leave it plugged it there plugged in. Set it and forget it as Ron Popeil would say. Now if you aren't already familiar with how to get to your PC's BIOS menu, be sure you find out before moving on. When you're ready, restart your PC and perform the steps to get to BIOS menu. For my Dell, I pressed F2 once my PC turned back on. Once you're in the BIOS menu, go to the tab at the top labeled "BOOT". 2 settings need to be changed: "secure boot" needs to be disabled and "boot order #1" needs to be changed to "USB". * When you're ready to go back to Windows, just revert to what it was originally. Once you made sure you have the correct settings, go to the "Exit/Quit" tab at the far right and select "SAVE AND RESTART". If you did everything correctly, when your PC starts back up, it should be booting Batocera. Once Batocera is loaded and you're on the main screen, hit "F1" which should take you into Batocera's "file manager". In the column on the left, you SHOULD see your "Mint" drive listed under it's easily recognizable name. Open that up and you should see your ROMS in its easily recognized folder. "Select all" and either cut or copy. Then look again at the column on the left and there should be an actual "ROMS" folder. Clicking on that will open all the different emulator folder. Now since you were wise and grouped your ROMS according to systems, you can just open the appropriate folder and paste everything into each one. Once you are finished transferring, go to the settings at the top left and click on "close window". That will take you back to Batocera's main menu. Click on "start" to bring up the "settings". Go to "quit" at the very bottom and select "restart systen". When Batocera has reloaded, your ROMS are now listed under each emulator. And if you REALLY want to save yourself A LOT of time and headache searching for ROMS that actually work, head straight to "the vault" at vimm's lair. 100% success rate with EVERY SINGLE ROM. Tell em Large Marge sent cha!
I used to boot Batocera from a flash drive and run the games from a sep attached portable HDD but recently switched to just using an internal HDD only. Batocera is an OS in itself, so yes.You can flash it to a blank HDD or SSD and put that inside the PC you are going to use for your Batocera build. No windows neccessary. Edit: oh, you mean run windows games? Yes to that as well, but not everything willl run.. Trial and error I guess.
@@fonzitheman Thanks and yeah that's what I meant. I originally put Batocera and all roms on a Samsung Evo which was inside a PC that also had windows on an SSD. I would boot into recovery and boot into the Batocera. I got another PC , a mini which only houses one drive. So I only put the Batocera drive in it. I just didn't know if you had to be running windows on another drive in the same PC in order to install and run windows games. Also can you recommend some good windows fighting games
@@ryangalvatron4451 Couldnt tell you about windows fighting games really. I have a handful of games in the windows folder, a fan made fighting game called Terrordrome Rise of the Boogemen, if you dont know it look it up. Other than that just a few Mugen games.
Actually I figured it out for EasyRPG! You just need to add ".easyrpg" at the end of the folder the game is in. Here's a link to one of the games that works with it called OFF. gaarabis.free.fr/index.php?catid=1
And now I'm finding that I need help with MUGEN games like Hyper DBZ and Card Sagas Wars. Can't get either of those to play. Plus, if anyone knows how to get Smash Bros Project+ to play (modded Wii game), I'm all ears!
Hello, i have testing to launch the game "Genshin impact" but this game use a launcher. And when after clic on the start in the launcher, the game did not started. plz help me for search a solution. Thank you
Not all Windows games are compatible with Batocera. Some games run well even with the game launches the game launcher first. Others don't. There is no easy solution or maybe none at all.
@@BatoceraNation Additional information, behavior in windows after clicking on "Start" of the "launcher.exe" it is requested to accept the launch of "game.exe" in administrator mode. Maybe there is a command to add on the "game.exe" so that it is done automatically? Because the "laucnher.exe" can be bypassed and directly launch the "game.exe" which always requires administrator validation but possible in windows to define the launch in administrator mode automatically each time or via a command that I do not know. If that can help you. Thank you in advance for your help because on the discord, I was unable to discuss with people for information.
Have you got Batocera flashed to a sep flash drive or portable hdd? So you mean installing windows games in Batocera? No, it creates an installation using wine, so its creating a C drive structure in Batocera for that game. So its mimicking a windows c drive for the windows game to run I guess is the way to explain it. However, incase I misunderstood you, use at your own risk 😌.
@@BatoceraNation but do i install in the same folders, the same way? also thank you for your hard work, you helped alot with steam games. just wish they didn't take so long to download

I am attempting to install Sim City 4 Deluxe Edition on Batocera v.37 (2023/06/17). The game was originally installed using two CD roms. I have the images of both cd's as .ISO files (SC4DELUXE1.iso and SC4DELUXE2.iso). During the installation, it asks to "Please insert disk 2."
I have tried the hotkey + x (hotkey + south on ps3 controller), as well as F1 on the keyboard, as well as many other keyboard inputs, but I cannot access disk control to insert disk number 2.

When I follow this guide it seems to create a new virtual windows for every game, not all in the same system (like you have), any idea why?
How Can I access the settings.exe file of my game which is located in the game folder? Is there a way to load the game through the back end once I've changed the autorun.cmd file to run the game automatically?
Also when i run the game with Lutris it seems to be running in full screen mode, but it doesnt load my saved data. Yet, Proton opens the game in windowed mode and i have to change the resolution from the batocera game settings menu to get it to run in full screen but i also see the window mode version just streched out. I do get my saves to load with the Proton emulator though.
Any workarounds to all this?

Just got around to working on my Windows games. How do we handle DLC from GoG? I have several games with additional setup.exe DLC files.

Can this be done on a Batocera on a Raspberry Pi or does it have to be running inside Windows? I don't have the Windows and Windows_Installer folders in my ROMS folder.
It has to be a PC computer. Windows games won't run on a Pi.
Here's another way using ONE pc and TWO usb drives:
Just thought I'd share what worked for me.
