amazing model reminds me of the Ultramarines of the 90's more than the darker blue of the 2000's, would be interesting to see you do some of the other squad types or maybe a tank in that scheme.
Really wonderful video! I suspect that the 'proper' UM blue is one of the most frequently debated questions in painting space marines! Personally, I prefer a slightly darker blue for UM's, but there are SO MANY UM's all over the galaxy that even if they all started from the same place, after a couple of centuries off chasing whatever, it is natural that there would be some divergence in color. That is my excuse, anyway!
Love the model, got to paint all of the various models of him. I do like your take on the blue and as an Ultramarine assistant player I think I have a right to say that. Well done sir
Looks like an Ultramarine to me! I don't have this model, but I do have the Terminator Captain that came with the first combat patrol magazine. Going to paint him as an Ultramarine, will be the first model I've done in ages. Thanks for the kick up the arse to actually get going.
"Everyone they've done has been an improvement." Sanguinary guard: Are we a joke to you? On topic, sm2 definitely also made me want to pick up this character, but I have figured out the blood angels conversion yet, so held off
Looks great just as Calgar should. Such a great model. Loved painting mine. I've built up a decent amount of Ultramarines. Even converted my own Uriel Ventris. Gotten to where I use AP Fanatics Ultramarine blue to layer them. Bit on the nose I guess but I find that it's just a really great blue.
I paint Ultramarines, and I think you're right about the blue being too bright in many interpretations. I use Macragge Blue with Calgar Blue highlights, rarely Fenrisian Grey on top. So mine are even darker than yours! I think the older style of Ultramarines called for a much brighter blue which became Altdorf Guard Blue when they switched the names around.
Cheers Andy and Laura! Great video. Calgar is an awesome character and mini. I have been putting him off for too long long. Love your lighter blue scheme! Can you post in your discord where your rhinox was from 👍🏼
Pin up Bois there's always something iconic about an ultramarine. Looks like a ultramarine to me, just one thing I would of done is given it an extra pop of white to really highlight it up. I use inks or pro acrly titanium white when I need that bright finish or plaid witch flesh. That's just a personal preference thou, I just picked Mephiston up to work on. Backed the Greytide studios campaign for all the bling bits for my DC box just gotta wait the month for the files now.
What a moment in the game ... Understandable this great video! Are you planning to give some love to Arnor, Angmar or the new Lord od the Rings edition?
The only Ultramarine I’ve painted so far is Titus and I used your video for it and I absolutely love Caledor Sky instead of the standard blue although I’m not sure what you mean by darker as it’s definitely a brighter tone lol. But yeah that moment in the game had me screaming
I never painted so I have no right on commenting but, the Nuln oil did put the blue to Ultramarine color and if I would paint, I will do dry brush highlight to get some lighting while mainting that ultramarine blue. All in all good job! for some reason I like the first born models more :'D
Recently got back into Warhammer. Bought Guilliman and painted him as my first. Had no idea what I was doing with the contrast paints and he’s turned out on the really grim dark side of ultramarines.… which I like, but I do think I need to lighten him up a smidge. Any tips? He’s got quite a lot a detail so I was thinking maybe pin washing?
Im on the always helmet squad. Looks great!

Calador Sky looks great and is Ultramariney! ❤
Thanks man, glad you agree!
Such a great moment in the game, can’t get enough of Space Marine 2 at the moment
I bought the model today at a tabletop fleemarket!!! I am so happy!!!!
Aw that’s so cool, thanks for letting me know that!

Great video Andy, glad you’ve been enjoying sm2.
Still got a few of the extra missions left but yeah I loved it
Yeah I am the same.... will buy Bobby G for sure. Thinking about Calgar also.

Will see if I have it and give it a go on something, thanks for that!

The blue may get a little close to Crimson Fists, but lacking the crimson it does look Ultramarines

Yeah new lord of the rings will be covered! Always love middle earth, just doesn’t get as much traction so it’s hard to give it the time it deserves
My Calgar is in storage since it was releaded haha. Now i have an urge to paint it! Loved your video.
Love hearing that, get him out and get him done!

The Firstborn Malneus Calgar is als a fare better miniature.

Why do you use red underneath gold, but not black underneath leadbelcher? I find that works pretty great, so I’m interested to know!
"Tassely bits" also known as pteruges
😊
I will try to remember that, I need it tattooed on my arm at this stage!
Did you prime it twice? Black first then grey?
Yes! ruclips.net/video/fJWQtxZVcOg/видео.htmlsi=J4IXarvBKXbNDTuk
Rise son of Guilliman
Such a clickbaity thumbnail..... and I'm all for it for badass Calgar😅
