its refreshing tbh. usually comic relief always get made fun of, never getting ladies cause its "funny" seeing the comic relief being made fun of and alone plus their personality always based on "haha, lol, i made a joke, i am a loser lol". but sokka not only get the ladies but he also manage to have a great character development and become more than just a comic relief. avatar is just the best

@lo l Pretty sure a vast majority of the fanbase would have been fine with aang and sokka being gay, if the writers had decided to take their characters that direction. "Fuck no" is the last thing fans would be saying to this Nickelodeon show. You need to relax, bud. And look for arguments that make you sound less homophobic. In the end, show writers do decide what directions their characters move in, and you do indeed just have to accept it, or stop watching. Perfect example of that is the last few seasons of game of thrones, writers don't have to give a single shit about your subjective understandings of characters.
@@trashsplashtucker i'm sorry but at the time this show was airing, not many countries accept that type of relationship. I believe it is a valid point (at that day and age) for them to compare their feelings, so we can see where their state of mind was in and where it was going to go. It fleshed out these characters's emotions naturally as their feelings progresses, NOT ONLY because the writer says so, BUT because it's a normal thing to have as a kid/teenager so we can relate to them better.
We can also see who are the target audience this show was aiming for, clearly it was meant to be enjoyed by all ages but it emphasize more on the children as they grow up. This paid off really well because the characters feelings was executed accurately in the eye of a child. I can not say the same thing would happen if the characters were a full grown adults capable of controlling their emotions tho. It would be quiet hard for children to understand that.
What would you say if the writers decided to inject this modern day "woke" culture to this wonderful series? Do you think it would be as popular as it is now? My parents love this show, they taught me to be humble and caring through this show, through this characters and their emotions. If the writers would change the characters sexuality back then, i don't think they would agree, let alone let me watch it. This series taught me so much about diversity and what it means to live together knowing each others differences, it is the fundamental core of what i am now. I don't mind being called homophobic if you think i am, but that what makes us different, to learn how to tolerate and still care for each other is what makes the difference.
Last few seasons of game of thrones? you mean the incest direction? I think they just want to make the story surreal and engaging, it works well with their grim take of reality. They did show this relationship in the very first episode of the show as a warning. On the other hand, the first episode of Avatar showed us this hearthwarming story of jovial and energetic sibling that discovered their newly found adventuring companion in a bright and magical world. So comparing Avatar with GoT is a little bit too much don't you think? Even their target audience seems so different. :D
The couple they meet is actually the same couple Zuko saw on the side of the road and almost robbed of their food when he was alone in 2x07 ;)

The scene when Sokka and Suki didnt kiss was revealed to be because of the moon. Yue's spirit (the white haired girl in the north pole) is in the moon, that was why Sokka didnt kiss Suki, he "see" Yue in the moon.

As you seemed interested in the ages of the characters, Here are the ages of frequently occurring characters. Someone can correct me if i'm wrong but i believe Aang and Toph are 12, although technically Aang is 112. Katara, Azula and Tai Lee are 14, Sokka and Mai are 15. Zuko is 16 and Suki is 16/17. While no exact age is given, Iroh is most commonly believed to be late 50s. That said, i think i read somewhere that while never mentioned on the show a few characters do have their birthdays during the course of the show.
You're right, although I didn't know Suki was older than Sokka. My respect for him has increased because he got an older woman to like him lol

This episode had so many returning characters lol.We got Cabbage Man, Jet, Smellerbee, Longshot, Suki, and the pregnant woman and her husband (same couple from "Zuko Alone", the one where Zuko was contemplating stealing food from until he saw the woman was pregnant).
On top of all that, we also got so many great moments too (as usual)! Sokka being overprotective because of what happened to Yue, Aang closing himself off in order to cope with the loss of Appa, Toph being Toph, Aang and Katara teaming up to hold off the serpent, Aang becoming hopeful again, and the Sokka/Suki moment (Sokka deserves to be happy!!).

I don’t know if y’all noticed but in the episode “Zuko Alone” when he was starving and was thinking about taking the food. That pregnant lady that Aang helped is the same one that Zuko spared a few episodes ago. I love when shows connect the characters like that. And then it goes even further.

Love this episode. Love them all but this one got some returns, some feels like when Suki and Sokka were about to kiss but he stopped cause that moon was right in between them. Aang gave 0 Fs all episode. Your heart will be going through some emotions soon
This and the next are really underrated by the community, even when most of us agree that they're great. It seems these are better in retrospect than when you watch them for the first time.

Here's one thing I never noticed about his behaviour: his detachment makes a lot of sense as a way of coping since detachment is the crux of the Air Nomad philosophy. A child normally gets hung up on their feelings, however the airbenders stressed emotional detachment despite having connections within their community. Aang, as an airbending master, doesn't have the maturity to fully organize his feelings, so he shifts from his true emotions to following exactly what the monks would have taught him. In reality, most adult monks (and himself by the end of the episode) would exist somewhere in the middle of those two extremes.
People ask why didn't Katara make an ice bridge, or Toph create a land bridge to cross the watery gap. It's not a plot hole. They were trying to sneak across Serpent's Pass because the Fire Nation was secretly working on and moving that massive drill. So, the smart thing was to travel quickly under the water.

Sokka, Suki, Zuko and Jet are all 16.
Katara is 14.
Aang and Toph are both 12.
Iroh is somewhere in his mid to late 50s, and Ozai is 45.
Sokka is actually 15 but in book 3 he turns 16 and Aang turns 13

the reason why they're fine with saying that aang is the avatar is because they're deeper in the earth kingdom where it's safe from the fire nation. it's a bit less safe in areas like the desert and close to areas that are colonized by the fire nation. ba sing se is one of the last major strong holds that has resisted the fire nation so essentially they're closer to "paradise" to a lot of refugees.
