While the direct battle between Kai and Tai Lung in the spirit realm was not shown in the movies, the directors have confirmed that it did occur, resulting in Kai absorbing Tai Lung's chi and becoming even stronger. In Kung Fu Panda 3, during Kai's rematch with Oogway, he boasts, "I have taken the chi of every master here," and a snow leopard amulet, similar to Tai Lung's, is visible on his belt. To be fair Tai Lung was caught off guard by Oogway because he was focused on getting the scroll. If it was an actual fight Oogway would’ve absolutely no diffed Tai Lung.

I think on a hand to hand combat,tai lung defeats anyone. But he lost everytime because of chi or other spirit powers.

I always liked to imagine Kai went up to a sulking Tai Lung contemplating on how he was defeated by a round Panda, and he said a few words that made Tai Lung pounce at him. He got a solid hit, but eventually Kai would throw hands, knocking Tai Lund down before finally pulling out his blades to finish off the freshly humbled snow leopard.

I loved the first movie so much because Tai Lung appeared so strong and godlike, yet in the end, the big fat panda emerged victorious.

He literally had to defeat his opponent before he could take their Chi, I say that because Kai couldn't start the chi-taking unless his opponent stopped moving and none of his enemies would ever stop moving against him (apart from based Oogway ofc), ESPECIALLY not Tai Lung, so even in that sense Kai would beat him

Reason for tough battle BTW Kai and oogway back then was beacuse oogway was young then so he didn't knew skills back then, so their battle was hard and it shook the earth, unlike oogway vs Tai lung where oogway was already most powerful kung fu master in the entire universe

People forget that kai was powered by every master in the spirit realm and there's A LOT. And he still barely beat oogway, if oogway was even trying. That shows that base kai would be clapped by oogway

There is a few things people forget 1. Tai lung hasn’t been beat in a straight fight yet everyone who beat him used chi which he can’t use 2. Oogway got the drop on tai lung the first first round if that was a straight brawl yes oogway would win but it would be much closer 3. Kai probably had many other masters chi before going after tai lung remember those amulets give Kai power and skills not to mention Kai pretty much has a one shot ability for anyone who isn’t PO I mean it even worked on oogway so I would think in a no chi fight tai lung is still the unmatched king of combat and would beat down everyone as he even has a move that just paralyses you which doesn’t use chi

You made 1 mistake, Tai lung was imprisoned for 20 years after that fight, where he meditated and literally DOUBLED in age. Also fought shifu before Ugwi and maybe fighting is different in the spirit world 🌍

Without chi manipulation, Tai Lung would be too much for Kai to handle. So i would like you to rephrase your last sentence as Kai would have defeated Tai Lung, but it would be one hell of a fight. And if anyone has any confusion related to this, they can see that Tai Lung seriously humbled the furious Five, all Five of them. Kai only had to fight 3, but we replace Shifu for one and still it's Four. That and the fact that after taking chi the taker gets even more powerful, defeating Tai Lung after being a lot stronger than him doesn't really seem fair. It would be like letting a fighter use performance enhancing drugs against an unenhanced fighter and calling it even. And, Tai Lung may even still be defeated, but it sure as hell would not be EASY since Tai Lung will provide a serious challenge no matter how strong Kai gets.

Honestly I know it’s cannon that Kai defeated tai lung but I could argue tai lung being a better fighter/warrior.
Kai and oogway fought before chi was involved hence the battle between oogway and Kai being physical. After they discovered chi both their fighting styles changed.
Tai lung was defeated both times by chi. Oogway beat him within seconds and the battle between tai lung and Kai was off screen.
Kai VERY WELL could’ve been boosted by the other masters chi AND both kai and oogway use weapons. Tai lung fights with no weapon and even his “nerve attack” let’s be honest he didn’t even need in the first movie. The 5 got CLAPPED before he used his nerve attack anyways.
I’d be more willing to say that tai lungs on screen fts are way more impressive than Kai’s. The stuff about Kai was all story based and most of the time he fought he used his jade warriors outside of the spirit realm.

And I already know ur gonna say “oogway and Kai fought each other and shook the earth” and “Kai lasted hours fighting oogway, while tai lung lasted seconds”. First tai lung was reaching for the scroll and not trying to attack oogway and he also didn’t think oogway as a threat and when oogway and Kai fought, they were both young and not king fu masters yet

1. Even if Tai Lung were to get into an actual fight I'm pretty sure their fight won't "shake the earth". Tai Lung is extremely tough, but we've never witnessed Tai Lung performing a feat like this when clashing with characters like Po or Shifu, therefore there is no proof that Tai Lung would beat Kai (Pre-First Film).
2. There is no evidence that Kai's backstory took place before Oogway learned/Invented Kung Fu. All it ever said in that story was something along the lines of "Oogway and Kai led an army and fought alongside each other as Brothers In Arms".
