    Unexpectedly spicy.
Neat little lore info: if you attack Fia while she’s seated beneath Godwyn’s corpse, you will be attacked with death rancours.
Your first thought might be that Fia is defending herself, but she also has dialogue about it.
She says “Godwyn, is that you dear”? Just as the skulls are fired from Godwyn’s corpse, to protect Fia.
There’s like, a whole VaatiVidya lore video about those who live in death, but the main thing I wanted to say was, deathblight was not a result of Godwyn’s death, but merely a foothold for its existence in the Lands Between. Godwyn was Godfrey and Marika’s first child, and each of Godfrey’s children was cursed is some way, and most of Marika’s children suffered the same fate. Morgott and Mohg were Omens, Miquella was cursed with eternal youth, Malenia was cursed with Rot, so it makes sense that Godwyn would be cursed in some way as well. Perhaps, with death?
Which is why when he was killed with the rune of death, his curse may have grown in power and unleashed death blight on this world that was supposed to be devoid of death entirely.
And because he protected Fia, that makes me think that maybe, he always intended to become the Prince of Death. He always meant to create a world for those who live in death. And Ranni actually ended up helping him in that goal. And I don’t think she did so by accident, this is Ranni after all.

Ooooohhhhh!? Very interesting! I thought it was interesting that Godwyn would be the only kid in the whole family who wasn't cursed or screwed up in some kind of way. He just seemed like the goodest of good boys, but it does make sense if he had his own curse or twisted destiny that he felt he needed to fulfill. And there's a lot still from Ranni's past that we don't know. So it is conceivable that the siblings plotted this all out together, especially since there's a nod to Marika possibly knowing/being in on the scheme as well. And all to break the plans of the Greater Will!
I know it's impossible for them to pull off something this massive, but I'd love to see a continuation game that explores the consequences of the Tarnished's decisions. Using Fia's Rune would bring about one of the more subtle and yet oddly dramatic changes to the Lands Between. I'd also like for her to have a longer, positive legacy. If that is indeed what such a choice brings...
