I love her interpretation of this song. In my mind, I have always pictured it being performed this way. This isn't a song that should be performed 100% hopeful or 100% defiant. The ideal performance of this song would entail a bit of self doubt and fear at the beginning, hinting at how jaded the performer currently is regarding her love life. That timid beginning should quickly lead to a hint of defiance flecked with anger (at having lost in love so many times before, inwardly rejecting the possibility of giving up on love, willing to give it another go even risking being hurt again) and at the crescendo the performer should be portraying an almost hysterical amount of hope, not portraying the absence of fear but rather the courage to fall in love again even while fearing failure.
I totally agree! Jane Horrocks rendition when they revived it was one of my favorites! That Cabaret use to be on RUclips not sure if it still is. Alan Cumming reprised his role as the Emcee as well! I’m so glad for Audra McDonald performance, although so effortlessly stunning, she isn’t afraid of portraying raw grit. Edit: I found it! ruclips.net/video/IOs82ubFyFQ/видео.html Edit edit: it was Jane Horrocks Cabaret I was thinking of not Maybe This Time.
This woman has an astonishing talent, and not just as a singer. Her 2019 Broadway performance at the Broadhurst theatre in Terrence McNally's "Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune" had to be seen to be believed.
Never heard this woman before, but from the first few notes I realized her strength... warm, powerful, and seductive, a truly exquisite voice. I've never heard better.
Okay, I just bawled my eyes out listening to Audra McDonald. I have never heard her sing before but I have seen her act and her performance in WIT staring Emma Thompson, was so deeply touching and real. I love everything she does.
This is a beloved song that's been performed by the best in the business over many years. It is often styled somewhat by the singer which usually works out OK. That said, I have never heard a version as stirring and beautiful as this. Perfect is a word that comes to mind. .
Wow!! I felt the whole story in that performance. I love how she executed this !!! She was trying to persuade the listening and convince them that thing will be different for her the next time. Wow !! I loved it
Maybe this time, I'll be lucky Maybe this time, he'll stay Maybe this time For the first time Love won't hurry away He will hold me fast I'll be home at last Not a loser anymore Like the last time And the time before Everybody loves a winner So nobody loved me; 'Lady Peaceful,' 'Lady Happy,' That's what I long to be All the odds are in my favor Something's bound to begin It's got to happen, happen sometime Maybe this time I'll win
She was born in my hometown Fresno, California and was in the good company players with my mom they didn't know each other that well because Audra was so much older than her but it's cool to say that my mom did good company players with Audra McDonald, I always tell my theater friends it's just so cool!!
❤️❤️❤️🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 I never thought I’d hear anyone ever come close to Liza Minnelli on this song. Thank you Miss McDonald for proving me wrong‼️ you’re not as good as Miss Minnelli, you’re better. Again, something I never thought possible.
Ms. McDonald has a brilliant way to make her vocal chords shine... and that's a thrill for anyone of us. But my feeling is that the narrator (singer) of the song knows almost for sure that this new relationship is not going to last but she needs it to be real, although she knows down deep that it's not the case. She's been in a "hundred" of relationships where she's felt that she's been giving her all and the results have been horrible. But she doesn't lose hope. The next guy she's involved with, she thinks he's all the things that all the men before weren't. She's so almost childishly excited that she isn't going to feel a little bit suspicious about the things that his new lover is doing. Just in a sentence, this song needs to be sung in an hurtful ironic way: I know you are not the one, but I need to feel that you are

Amy Collins huh? She had 1 very short song in that movie and 4 lines of song at the end none of which were title songs, Emma Thompson sung the “title song” beauty and the beast though
When she said, “But now I’m 42-I know what it means,” I felt that HARDT!
Who the hell would ever dislike Audra McDonald singing
37 heathens with no taste
she's an opera singer....
@@edkline6401 it's okay, you can have wrong opinions. :)
@@seppyq3672 Oh, I've got dozens of those, I am sure.

Her version of Rainbow High is my favorite
This is the Blueprint Ladies for how a Lyric Soprano can still stay true to her natural voice but still sing the song with depth and passion.
Okay, I just bawled my eyes out listening to Audra McDonald. I have never heard her sing before but I have seen her act and her performance in WIT staring Emma Thompson, was so deeply touching and real. I love everything she does.
That last note is like a damn laser beam it's so tight. Incredible
I love this song! She and Kristin Chenoweth both do epic versions. Such talented ladies 😍
Damn! If her and Hugh Jackman sang together, they could cause an earthquake with their vibrato alone.
enter: ben platt
Omg lit just thinking that!
im quaking. Jackman can take a day off.
that's cald a caprino darling hahaha (And its a flaw, not a signature move).
They did sing if I loved you from Carousel
She is incredible...I was fortunate enough to see her about 20 years in an off-Broadway play. If you get a chance to catch her, run don't walk !! 🥰

This performance crushes everyone else who has tried it, just outstanding
Nope. Her performance is superb. But Liza still owns it and Kristen Chenoweth's rendition is equal in every way to this one.
Chenoweth's voice can't light a candle to Audra McDonald
Their voices and talents are equal in every way. They even worked together on the television adaption of Annie. Too bad they didn't sing together.
Liza Minelli won an Oscar for it, so you are just plain wrong
I agree! so much better than Liza or Kristin
Omg, the acting and voice are just stunning!!!❤
Aw you can TELL she knew what the song meant here!!! The whole time I had C H I L L S 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 I loved it!!!

Oh dear God!
I first saw her in Beauty and the Beast. And she has such a lovely voice! And I love her character!
Audra can sing ANYTHING. Hell...she sung Billie AS Billie so that says right there how much vocal control she has.
Audra is such a Pro. Damn.
Damn. Just.....Damn.
Her vibrato is like a machine gun 😂
I really didn't care for her in the 2015 Beauty and the Beast movie. She ruined the title song. Wobbly vibrato, scooping and sliding everywhere. I expected much better.
Amy Collins huh? She had 1 very short song in that movie and 4 lines of song at the end none of which were title songs, Emma Thompson sung the “title song” beauty and the beast though
