- What a brilliant film!! Ever since I first watched it, it became one of my all time favourites! Don't get me wrong, I love the first film, but because of this scene, my (at the time) 8 year old brain ranked it higher!
The chase itself is great, but when combined with Bonnie Tyler's 'Holding out for a Hero'… it became EPIC!! This was how I was originally introduced to Bonnie Tyler; & because of that, I have always associated her & this song with this film.
For many years I believed that the music in the film was a special edit, exclusively made for the film. On the CD my Sister owned (track length - 4:25), there are parts that aren’t included in the song that are on the film; my child brain couldn’t comprehend that there might be multiple versions…
Skipping forward quite a few years, I was shopping, & this song happened to be playing in the background. I was mouthing along with the words not fully paying attention to the song when I was physically stopped in my tracks; this song, which I loved, that I knew inside-out, was different! After I got home, I started searching! Since I already had my Sister's CD, I never thought to look for the song on iTunes.
Almost immediately I found the song (track length - 5:50) & purchased it :-)
After listening to the song, a little voice in the back of my head challenged me… Could I recreate the version that is played in the film?
This took SO many hours, trying to edit down a '5:50' song to fit correctly inside a '3:47' long clip wasn’t easy! AND there is one join I'm not happy about (I could & would have done it better, but I wanted to keep it as close to the original backing track as possible) but after everything, I am extremely happy with the finished product.

Short Circuit 2 introduced me to this song, and in that scene it fits so well. One of the best scenes in movie history and one of the songs ever.

Studio Executive: Wow wow wow, that must make him the most powerful being on Earth.
Writer: Not really, he gets almost beat to death by two low level thugs and is always out of range when it really matters.
Studio Executive: Wow! Sound like it's going to be super difficult for him to stop the bad guys.
I mean that was pretty well established in the first movie, and in that one he still had his laser, so he was completely overpowered but didn’t want to “disassemble” anybody.

This song fits the scene well. It’s a race not only to stop Oscar from escaping New York, but also a race against death. Johnny 5 is a badass in this movie, pushed to his limit when beaten. And he sure did get pissed off.

GREATLY underrated this movie is one of my favourites along with part 1 but this one has more heart. And this was the first time I heard Bonnie Tyler's song. Back then we didn't have the internet to read the lyrics or search the whole song. I learned afterwards she has a house in the Algarve and she was interviewed in 1995 by a famous Portuguese entertainer for Portuguese TV. This song is one of the most powerful ever. And that scene with the robot it's a little nerdy by today's standards but you can't just see it isolated from the rest of the movie. When you see the whole movie you just have to root for Johnny 5. And cry when you think he's dead.

In this final scene Johnny 5 showed what it really meant to be a hero and will go down as a hero like many others.

I was 10 when I first saw this movie. Everything leading up to this chase scene was fantastic....he trusts someone even though he was starting to suspect. He gets beat up and gets some help and fixes himself. Then despite knowing his time is running out he was like "Hey hold my motor oil. I'm going to ram my first right up Oscar's butt and then I'll die happy." J5 is the GOAT!

As a kid I was rooting for him to catch Oscar. He was tricked by Oscar into helping them steal the diamonds and then was nearly beaten to death.

This also reminds me of Saints Row the Third as this song also was in that game as it’s heard near the end of the game where as you have to either kill Killbane or save Shaundi, Burt Renyolds, and Viola DeWinter from Kia at the statue and this was originally in Footloose too.
