My mom had an 80 Buick LeSabre Limited with the 5.7 diesel in it for a time in the late 80s. To be honest, I suspect the engine had been gone through and re-worked before she got it because she had very few issues with it mechanically. Her living in the relative warmth of south west Georgia probably did not hurt any. The brakes were the worst, as I recall. I was in 6th-8th grades at the time. My uncle used to joke that Mom got passed by bicycles from the redlights but the car ran like a champ at highway speeds.
Great!!!I remember when I was a child we had this Olds in France, not so much but a few.Your car is beautiful,I like the sound of the huge V8.It is funny the preheating, you have the panel light with WAIT,we dont have this on Europeen cars.A question, are you the only one American who likes diesel??I remember, each time I visited your beautiful country,I NEVER saw any Diesel cars!Exept truck.Great video thanks buddy
We had thousands of these in Finland, all diesels. I still have a 79 Royale which I converted to an Olds 455 20 years ago. Wonderful cars! In the US, diesel fuel was fairly hard to find in those days and there really wasn't much to gain by having a diesel, only additional expenses.
It would've have been a great engine if you know anything about diesel engines and exactly how to maintain them, fuel economy didn't mean shit to me,I just like to drive.
My dad's was exactly the same, but a 2-door. I did my driving license road test with it. Totally gutless but excellent fuel efficiency.
One of my favorite body styles, the engine just sweetens the deal.
My friend had a ‘78 Ninety-Eight Regency with the diesel. Very comfy car, slow as molasses.

Nice car
What's up with that trailer hitch ?
Acres of brown!
Interesting it didn't have a green "start" light. Olds had that feature in the earlier models like this one.
it probably was broken

@@calibration9792 ah ok, ich interessiere mich nämlich für das Auto 😄 wie sind ihr Erfahrungen bisher mit ihm?
Nice original
were they an unnesssary and botched alternative to the V6 engines? yes. were they still cool? yes.
Diesel...in an era of badly designed diesels. Never understood the "wow factor" in having a diesel. They're noisy/obnoxious and...they smell.
they are fuc*ing fun my friend. and I miss mine.
These 5.7 diesels were terrible....loud, noisy, no power and full of problems. This was another GM blunder
Nice start
