- "Normal People" star Paul Mescal - or rather his choice of accessories- have become quite popular since the Hulu series' premiere. Not only is the breakout star's agents receiving calls about new roles for him, but a necklace that his character Connell wears in the 12-episode series now has its own fan Instagram account. When asked how the chain choice came to be, Mescal told Variety, "It's like 'Harry Potter,' the wand chooses you."

It was the most sensitively REAL, magnificent series I have seen in a long long time . Paul Mescal and Daisy Edgar- Jones were SENSATIONAL! ...Congratulations to ALL!!!
I expect America will be calling, but I hope Paul is never made to lose his Irish accent, which is so wonderful.
To get a variety of roles he will have to be able to do a good American accent. Dominic West is an example of an English actor who had to do that for his roles in The Wire and The Affair.
@@avrilridge9055 True.
@@avrilridge9055 Aidan Gillen as Carcetti is probably a better example
Life exists out of America! Americans even have to learn to speak with an English accent!!!
Johnny Depp, Meryl Streep, Gwyneth Paltrow and Renée Zellweger are all Americans who have 'learnt' how to speak with English accents for parts!
This is why he’s the “new internet boyfriend” so talented so sweet so cute
the actors made the series for me, they are so good. ☺
agreed
I hope he stays as lovely and normal as he is .
Me too! I hope he stays the cute nice guy next door no matters how famous he will become.
Terrific actor-such a raw and open performance. I hope we see a lot more of him! So interesting to hear about the chemistry readings. The chemistry between those two leads is absolutely amazing.
His smile
Really an utterly beautifully crafted show with such honesty.
best series I've seen in a long long time and the actors are incredible ❤️
This man is a GEM!!! His performance was so freaking honest and truthful and magnificent and breathtaking and I could go on and on. I'm really looking forward to seeing what stories he works on next
I binged the show than I read the book than watched the show again. I’m glad I did it this this way. The acting in this was really amazing! I know there isn’t a second book but I hope deep down there is a second series.
The money they are making of course there will be I bet u all the big American channel networks are in a biding war at the moment guarantee you
Normal Peope is the best show I‘ve seen (and rewatched plenty of times) this year! Paul and Daisy‘s chemistry was incredible!
So talented, the chemistry between him and Daisy is incredible.
The way he deals with the characters mental heath issues, wow, I really felt that
Having watched Paul being interviewed by so many different people with different angles, I am so impressed with Paul’s stamina!
He manages to keep a sense of humour and retains his charm! That is it, of course, he has charm in truck loads & this is why we love
watching him. He is also very intelligent which will serve him well in his future career. It has been a pleasure to watch him after so much
mediocrity on television. Thank you Paul for restoring our faith in the artistic world.
Such a relief to know the chain has been found.
“You can call up the search party” LOL! 😆
What an incredibly articulate young man! So professional and humble! I have good vibes that Paul and Daisy will do some grand things in the future! ❤️
This was a great interview! I love hearing all these details from him
Such an amazing actor and a modest guy!
And can we talk about the part in the room when you and Marianne were getting dressed really fast, and how at one point your shirt went on and at one point it flashed back to you and your shirt wasn’t on... 😂 I just love this show and this interview. Paul is just adorable and did a fantastic job🙂
Amazing book.
Amazing cast.
Amazing show.
This interview is the best I have seen and heard. Brilliant questions and answers. I cried at the end of the series even though I read the book a nd new the ending.
Connells chain is in a league of its own🥵
It has its own Instagram acct now LOL!
K G I absolutely love it!
This is such a good interview!!!
The best love story I’ve seen in a long long time. The acting was amazing. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Great show. Really interesting interview too!
Season 2, please!!! What a heartthrob. He's an amazing actor.
Great interview thanks
Such a great interview.
Great interview and talented actor. While I loved Connell, he's nothing like him. So lovely and easy going!
Great actor
I've watched Normal People five times. Am I normal (smiling)? I love the show so much and I'm so hoping that they'll do a 2nd series with all of the same characters. MaryAnne's character is very much like I was when I was in high school. I was a loner as well and dressed very different from my peers (1940's Pin Up). MaryAnne and I have very similar personalities, the two of us, I've always felt that I was misunderstood and just didn't 'fit in'.
.
I also fell in love at that age and I loved him until the day he died. My 'Connell' passed away in a car accident right after we had graduated from college. He had fallen asleep at the wheel. He was a good man and was very kind hearted like Connell. This series brought back so many lovely memories of him and the bond that we had between us. My life changed forever when he died. I feel lost without him.
.
Even though I've never been to Ireland, I've always wanted to go there. My family lineage on my mothers side comes from Ireland. My mother had three daughters, all of us were born with red hair and blue eyes.
.
I would love to someday visit Tubbercurry, Co. Sligo! It looks so wonderful and quaint! Is MaryAnne's family house also located there? The mini-mansion where they shot the film?
.
I'm going to hold on to my hope of them making a 2nd Series with the two main characters MaryAnne and Connell !! I would love to see how their lives together unfolds and hope that they marry and settle down somewhere?
❣💖❣💖❣💖
I can't wait to see what his doing next because he really is awesome in Normal People.
He's so articulate it's refreshing listening to him talk
Great questions. Thanks.
I just love listening to Paul speak. That brogue...
What about his shoes ??
Awesome questions. Kudos to the interviewer!
this interviewer is so obsessed with connell's chain lol
Sophie Park aren’t we all
Such a kind person... :)
i love how much this man stans pheobe bridgers
Amazing talent.
Can anyone else see that he's wearing the chain?
Best series ever
Nice interview, great questions, Paul and Daisy both great. Daisy's Irish accent the best ever but Mia Wasikowska in Albert Nobbs equally brilliant.
Must check her out never heard of her , she is probably famous
I have been interested to read that he played Jay Gatsby in a Dublin theatre soon after he finished his degree! I loved both film versions of ‘The Great Gatsby’ so would have enjoyed Paul’s part in this wonderful story of the ‘Twenties’
Should they ever try to bring Leon Uris' epic "Trinity" to the screen, I think "Conor Larkin" has been found.
His jaw isn't symmetrical but really add to his charms
I read that he quit football after breaking his jaw and coming to the realisation that further sporting injuries could potentially end his acting career, so that’s probably has something to do with his jaw not being symmetrical.
that's true, suits him
7:50 ❤❤
He is ridiculously hot
Really?
Biggie Iggie yep
@@biggieiggie5512 Well it's been a long lonely lockdown but ... yeah he is.
Episode 10 Fucked me up. Lived through it myself :/
Daddy 😭😭😭😭😭
He’s Hot! She’s Hot! The Show is Smouldering Sizzling Heat☄️🔥🌪👌
To any Irish out here: is this a "posh" Irish accent?
No, not posh. Really well spoken, great clear diction, but not posh.
S Regan Not really. Well spoken, not posh. He didn't grow up in Dublin so he doesn't have that posh accent that is more common in parts of the city.
Posh is Jack Reynor or Brien O Driscol, leo Varadkar south dublin d4 accent, Paul just has a standard
Just a really nice accent
Thanks for the replies. I asked because I knew a few Irish guys from Roscommon and they didn’t speak as clearly as this, and I sometimes had difficulty with their accents. To me (as an English person), this guy sounds like Dara O‘Brien and a few other famous Irish people, so was just wondering if this is an Irish equivalent of RP. Clearly just a bit of a neutral accent then.
Well he seems to have much more personality than the character he plays.
what´s going on with the chain business... Such a stupid question over and over juts to squeeze any ridiculous kind of stupid fetishism. The story and the series is so good juicy and powerful about feelings and teenagehood that is all missed for this stupid ridiculous interview...
Terrible interviewer!!
he did let him speak, so that's a plus.
looks like the RUclips machine dropped u right to the bottom of the comments section. Tsk, tsk my friend . . . Now i'm there . . .
It's nice, but lacks depth and any sort of subplot or truly developed support characters. The initial break up they have is totally implausible too. A non crisis on which the story pivots. He's moving back to Sligo for two months? Weak. Mediocre show with good acting
no
The breakup wasn’t about him going home for two months. It was about him being too insecure to ask her to stay with her for the summer, so he suggested they see other people, not because it’s something he wanted but because it’s something he just said, maybe hoping she’s deny it and suggest they stay together. She also has issues with her confidence and wants to do whatever she thinks will make him happy (she’s said this many times) and so she agrees thinking this is something he really wants. It’s not about him not being in Dublin, it’s about a huge misunderstanding that didn’t have to happen if the characters were in better states of mind.
"It lacks depth". Crikey, what I saw was the opposite. It has had Normal People crying, as they remember their own in depth experiences.
He was too proud to ask her could he move in, completely plausible. It’s premise is coming of age, how many complexities do you expect?
@@rebeccamcdonald4884 that's the crisis? He needs to move in with his bird for two months!!! FFS.. And hes only a 2 hour train ride away. Yeah real deal breaker...
