Oh yummmm, I made this as soon as I saw your video, and it is sososo tasty ! I was wondering what to do with the rice paper sitting in my pantry and this is perfect
Yes!! So excited to see rice paper as a dupe. I live so far from any Korean grocer. Gotta give a try! Also - fermenting my first batch of water kimchi right now 🤞🤞🤞
I just made these, followed your recipe (adapting to what I had) and it's delicious! The textures are wonderful, and the flavour is great... I didn't have vegan cheese, but I used seaweed in some rice cakes, and really liked them. Will definitely make again. Thank you!
I’ve made rice paper bacon (so good! If there’s too much sauce on it, it reminded me of chewy chicken skin and with less sauce it’s more crunchy like bacon). -and yes not a replacement for protein for anyone reading this. Just a fun thing to try. I’m excited to try this now too ☺️
Have you become British in your spare time? You were doing the accent! Thank you Rose for being just fine with your occasional "bloopers". It gives us all permission to love ourselves thru it all!
i’m mad that i watched this just after dinner, i want to try it now!! definitely going to try this, i’ve had rice paper sitting around for ages that i need to use
I've been seeing rice paper tteok all over my RUclips feed haha. I think this is a sign to get cooking! Thanks for the recipe! Looks super tasty! I'm curious how it will taste if you added different textures like seasoned firm tofu inside?
Made this for my boyfriend and I tonight - we both loves it!! Mouths were on fire in the best way!! Wish I doubled the recipe because I want some more for this week!!
How have I not tried this yet?! I freaking love rice cakes but always have to do a special trip to Chinatown for them. Rice paper is quite easy to find. Thanks Rose!
After a year since I watched this video, I finally tried it tonight then it turned out so delish💜💜💜💜💜 this will be one of my Go To meals for lazy day😋 thanks Rose for sharing your experiment!!
Seriously... I have been searching for rice cakes all week and yesterday I got fed up and ordered them online for way too much money, and now this shows up in my feed😂🙈. And yes: I have that pack of rice paper laying in the back of a cupboard, not being touched for months😂. I definitly will try this, especially with the fillings❤
My Asian market has the rice cakes and I always wanted to try them. This looks like the perfect dish. So, if I used the real rice cakes, they would cook for longer?
Yes I’ve been here since your red hair days! I went vegan a year after you did so started watching you probably a couple years after you started. When you were 300k maybe?
Thanks for sharing this! I have been ordering the rice cakes from Amazon, which I hate to resort to (but they have everything!!). Rice.papwrs ARE much more readily available in neighborhood grocery stores. And I'll be making this for dinner tonight! Love tekbokki!!
i can't wait to make this just hope i can find all ingredients, some things like the Gochujang and Gochugaru I don't think I've seen I might just do the paste since I am not the best with super spicey stuff
I’ve bought gochujang at my local grocery in their small catch-all Asian section, didn’t have to go to a specialty store. It’s spicy and sweet, like a sweet sriracha.
Except for the tofu I have everyting of that hanging arround in my kitchen (and yes, the rice paper for several months :)). Dinner for tomorrow is set. Thank you!
Wow thank you so much! I can't find any rice cakes so this will be a great substitute. I have been wanting to make this dish for awhile now but, have been stuck on the rice cake. No worries you cook how I cook. I too can't follow directions. L ol.
@@CheapLazyVegan Me too. I plan on making it for next week. I normally do a "big batch" of cooking so I don't have to think about what to eat or have take away. Thanks for solving my problem. :).
nah you have to fold in the sides when you stuff with cheese before rolling up, else it just melts outward when you cook it and you jsut have a blob of cheese at the bottom of your pot, burning and sticking to the bottom. they will be shorter in length by comparison, but also fatter. dont cut them, just use scissors or bite them in half AFTER they been cooked and served. but you might want to pushed out the air bubbles before you roll too. like putting on a screen protector on your phone. they will hold together better and have a more consistent texture.
@@CheapLazyVegan oh the good old days 🤣 when you were in London, Daniel turned vegan, vegfest and meetups were a thing. Let me tell you, your budget recipes were chef's kiss 😘 back when I started uni. Can't believe it's been ... around 5 years OMG!Times does fly!
Rose you make me laugh! Right before you said it, I was thinking, that’s what I can do with the rice wrappers that have been sitting in my pantry for months!
Do you have a list of vegan korean basic ingredients we need for korean cuisine ? I want to try korean cuisine so much but it's quite difficult to find vegan korean food in the 2 korean restaurants in my city
Ahhh!!! It's so hard for me to find rice cakes in my area!!! I'm not willing to drive 1 hr to H-Mart and 1hr back home just for rice cakes 🥺 I've had rice paper in my pantry for a bit I'm definitely going to try this
So not the point of this great video lol, but I do remember your Rosie Red hair from back in the day, and I love that you brought it back! The green was cool, but that red just lights you up.💖
Another excellent recipe video from Rose one of the most beautiful and gorgeous vegan women on RUclips. She is back to red hair what is Rose's original hair colour? Love 🥰 Rose.
Maybe I should watch more Viet cooking channels, but I swear people don't need to soak the rice paper that long. Just get all surfaces wet and it'll soften (eventually).
I just made these with cold water. I didn't use hot. I watched a video that explained that the final product tastes more like the real thing because hot gets the rice paper too soft
@@nameless9491 Yeah, I've never made rice cakes, but I'm Viet and it drives me crazy when people go overboard with the soaking. I agree cold water is fine. They're so thin, it's simpler that way.
@@nameless9491 I also made them with cold water... I had seen this recipe in other (Korean) channels but Rose just makes everything look manageable... It's a great gift!
I just can't eat Tteokbokki. Well, at least not the one's I've cooked myself. They are always just too dense. I can only eat like 4 or 5 and I'm full. lol Rice paper may work better for me if it isn't so dense then I can have the flavors of Tteokbokki.
I bought the rice paper but haven't done the recipe. In response to the COVID-19 for vegans question, I was very sick after just getting the vaccination. I had a high fever for days. You can say that's from a high immune system, but being sick is being sick ya know. So t think peeps with COVID-19 and vegan are miserable too. I am not saying to not get the vaccine because I will probably get the booster. I'm just not looking forward to it.
