I would love to see you play "Crypt of the Necrodancer". It's a chesslike rythm based, roguelike dungeon exploration game, which is hard as balls. There is even a chess boss to fight.
yeah, thats what high level players do. if you're stuck and need to guess, the best thing to do is to guess on the ones that give you the highest chance of not losing
I can't believe this question has been finally solved by an anonymous person in the comment section of the RUclips channel of a Twitch streamer who's also a GM in chess.

Your game is really great! You're fast and you're thinking around corners a lot. You're just not used to recognizing the standard 1-2 patterns when they're hidden too deep. If you really want to confront the whole "do I have to guess", play the Minesweeper version from Simon Tatham's puzzle games (that collection is awesome!), that generates only logically solvable fields. And everytime you trip up, look at it long and hard to figure out how you _could_ have known it.
There's no logical way to solve that back to back 1-3 corner at 12:00. The mine has an equal chance of being in either remaining square. Pure 50/50. If you disagree I'd appreciate knowing what logic you'd use to solve it.
@@whatbroicanhave50character35 You're right, but I wasn't referring to that. Right at 12:00 he was guessing his way into the southeast corner, and he didn't have to.

I feel like it would be better to guess in the middle of the section instead of a 50/50 on the edge because the entire section is probably less then half bombs so it’s a safer guess in the middle.
You didn't have to guess at 19:27 The 5 on the left guaranteed a spot for the 3 directly below it, meaning there was a free space next to the 3 below that, and the 2 below that.
If you click with both mouse buttons on a number square that has been satisfied by adjacent flagged squares then all non-flagged adjacent squares to that number square will be revealed. Saves a lot of time.
This is so good. Just when I had an idea about Hikaru playing minesweeper, there is already a video out. I loved that moment where he didn't realize he was not stuck. Only realized it at the last moment, although chat might have helped him. 😂
Man Hikaru’s ability to quickly scan and analyze the simple patterns is out of this world, but its a bit cringe how every 30s hes just like “welp gotta guess” when there is actually is a logical solve to the board. Ex. 8:11 you can chain logic from top right all the way down to the bottom and get a solution to unravel. However it would have gotten stuck at the 1&4 at top for a true 50/50 finish
2 years later I know, but I totally agree, he is able to see very easy patterns extremely quickly, but does not notice any complicated patterns. Also he is making bad guesses a lot of the time on forced guesses, and the lack of double clicking to clear non-mines is weird to me
at 8:16 what I normally do in positions like that where there is no clear answer to the problem I will usually just put the flags where the bombs are most likely to be and then adjust until I find the solution. works 100% of the time.
@1:32 u dnt actually have to guess because the blocks just below it can eb calculated and then using that u know that the one lower of the 2 is not going to be a bomb

I would say that at 2:22 where Hikaru is forced to guess and clicks on a bomb, that the "3" located 8 tiles from the left, 4 tiles from the top needs two more mines and they can't both be next to the "1" on the left, so at least one of them needs to be near the "2" to the left and down, thus assigning that "2" all its mines and you could continue the game by clicking around that "2" ....but I won't, because I don't want to be _that_ guy.
