The absolute greatest thing about Barry and why I love wearing his jersey is because he didn't give a DAMN about any kind of bullshit record. Years ago, I was in a Circuit City in Novi, Michigan.
A salesman was answering questions for a group of people, we were standing in the audio aisle, one of the people was Barry.
Just being an ordinary guy buying tech at the store. We all knew who he was and didn't say a thing out of respect for Barry.
He knew we alll were grateful for what he was doing for the Lions.
Barry is not the tallest guy, but he is rock solid and width of his legs were enormous, his thighs were huge.

Emmitt ran behind arguably the greatest offensive line in history. What could Barry have done with that line? Not only that, Dallas also had a pretty damn good defense too. And don't forget Aikman and Irvin, 2 HOF'ers.

Excuse me!!!! I did Barry!!! I predicted it in 1987! It was my first year as producer Engineer of the Oklahoma State Radio Network in 1987 and I had grown up and was a Sooner through and through, watching all the great running backs in Oklahoma. Steve Owen's (who went to Detroit) Greg Pruitt, Billy Sims (who went to Detroit), I knew in 87 Barry was special. I used to ask during our games, "why isn't #21 starting?" "That's your starter!!!" I remember press day of 1988 (before Barry's Heisman year) Barry was sitting at the end of the field, full dress, with not one reporter around him. I walked down there and the one question I remember asking Barry ... "do you think about what you do?" Knowing the answer is "no." But Barry said "yeah I do ... no ... wait .. let me think about that .. LONG PAUSE ... no, I dont think I do." Last time I saw Barry was the 02 03 Cotton Bowl. OSU played Eli Manning's Ole Miss team. It was halftime and Barry Sanders was in the booth and my NOKIA cell phone rang. It was the Sanford & Son Theme. Barry smiled and laughed that great Barry laugh!! Oh! The day Barry Sanders retired, I was driving through Michigan putting together the Spartan Radio Network and listening to one of the big AM stations in Detroit, WJR or WXYZ maybe. It was the middle of the day and it was a special call in show about Barry's announcement and the callers were saying it was a bluff, he would be back. I called in and said on the air "I knew Barry from OSU, we walked to the classroom building together every Tuesday and Thursday in the Fall of 88. If Barry said he is done, I promise you, Barry Sandersis done and will never play again. Not in Detroit or anywhere, I promise everyone in Detroit Barry is not playing a game. He is retiring and is done. Bank on it." And he was. Barry is simply the greatest running back ever. Barry in his prime could play in any era of football from 1897 to today, He could play.
