I have bought the limited pink edition clippers back in 2008 and still use them today. As a licensed pro of 15 years, they are the best heavy duty performing clippers I have ever used compared to other brands such as Babyliss, Wahl, etc. This video is wonderful due tips of maintenance and showing how. These clippers are truly very low maintenance cause of how its built and get hair off when doing 0 fades. Thanks Oster for building such a great clipper I can trust.
I also brought the pink edition oster 76 clipper, I love them. But the pink is starting to chip off and got scratches on it from normal daily usage. I wonder it I could spray paint my Clippers?
@robertpaullson2133 Turn the Clippers on. Lightly squeeze the tube of oil and glide it across the front blade of the Clippers. It should stream oil across the blade. Turn your clipper on side for 2 seconds and repeat to other side. Do it a few times. This makes sure that your getting oil on sides of blade. Continue running clipper for 10 to 15 seconds and shut off. If you feel like you used too much. Remove excess oil. Hope that helps.
Agreed. The pack-in instructions (for new owners) is very lacking in diagrams. I expect the outer casing to vary by model and when it was made, but the inner workings to change very little.
One of the best RUclips videos I've ever seen about anything! Thanks! I still have my first original black Oster 76 from 1976 when I graduated from barber school! It's cut thousands of crewcuts, flat tops and whiffles, and still runs like a champ!
Thank you for this video. I have followed your instructions for the second time and taken all the parts out and put back in successfully. A must tutorial for these clippers.
Thank you this awesome video, i purchased my 76clippers in 2008, pink edition. I've sent it out twice for repair. This video save me time and money. I can stay on top of my maintenance. Plus it showed me things I knew nothing about my clippers. I appreciate how well built they are and what awesome value I purchased.
An excellent video. I did all of this on my grandfather's Oster Classic 76 and it's been working great. This video gives the exact detail level needed to do the job quickly and easily. I use 3-in-1 SAE20 oil and the Superlube from Harbor Freight instead. I just got haircut today with the "76" and it performed like new.
Thank you for a great informational video. Just got my first CLASSIC 76 and I'm anxious to use it, but wanted to learn how to maintain it before i start using it. thanks again
I bought a pair just for cutting my hair. Simple balding, but I was at a loss for where the oil and grease went. The oil on the blade made sense, but the rest had no idea.
This is informative video. I learned some useful home maintenance that I'm sure will save me some money and a headache. If you do an update on this video, please zoom in a little closer. Although zooming in may not help me much (lol) younger eyes should benefit from it. Thanks my friend. Great Video!
Crazy how old and vintage this video is, just like a dudes sideburns lol 80s/90s video and yet waaaaay better than any other video on RUclips that is made in this actual year!!!
You make awesome videos!!!! Your videographer is spot on and you move at just the right pace so that someone can follow along with you. Thank you for making these videos. I subscribed to your channel.
This was exactly what I needed Thank You! My Oster Golden A5 clippers are running much quieter and smoother now. I also downloaded a PDF on maintenance that's good to reference. I also found a couple of places that can keep my blades sharpened for me.
The best video I've seen yet. Thanks for sharing this. I've been a barber for about 6 yrs and never knew all the info you gave. I do have a question, I'm using an oster with a vacuum system and they just started pulling while cutting. What do I need to do to make them smooth cutting again? Or do I need to get new blades?
This was very informative. Thank You, I just want to know when to use the clipper grease. I was using rubbing alcohol to clean the blades, because I always was taught to use it to clean scissors.
Wow only video i have seen that mention gear lubricant or gear grease. Most videos only mentions blade oil. I guess the motor isn't important to most people.
True, at the shop where I purchased mine do not even carry the grease, they said oil was enough. I pointed them to this video and they now stock the grease and recommend it.
For an at-home user of the 76, what frequency do you recommend blade washing? My use will be once (one cut) every two weeks. I'll scale advanced maintenance accordingly.
Excellent instructional. I would suggest that when a demonstration is given, that the video should zoom in close to the clipper (accepting that this video is from 2013, limited to 360p resolution). Example: Timestamp 7:33 is not zoomed in enough to adequately see what the gentleman is doing.
Why isnt the ball bearing on the older verison? I went to look for it on mine and it wasnt there. Is that bad that my 76 doesnt have the oil bearing on the outside of the case?
My unit turns on, but the blades do not move, any suggestions. I use is maybe 8 times a 12 times a year. I agree this should come with every Oster. Great Job
Epic tutorial, easy to follow and extremely articulated. Thank you. Question, is there a homemade way of making a blade wash? If so, how do you make it?
debora hardy In a pinch, I've seen recommendations for 50/50 water/rubbing alcohol and 50/50 water/white vinegar. I see no problem in using water/alcohol as long as you 1. use filtered/distilled water (minerals could prematurely wear down blade) 2. oil your blade immediately after drying (prevent rust)
BE AWARE!! I just purchased a used one but I wasn’t aware how much maintenance this clipper required and has to purchased a grease separately which were hard to get and expensive, will also need to find & purchase new coil soon, if I knew it was this much hassle then would of brought cordless version which you just need to oil blade and charge battery.
Thank you. Where does the flat washer go? It dropped out after taking the other parts out. It fits both shafts. I put it back on the bottom of the gear shaft since it left the lever a little too high with it on the lever shaft.
If I do 20-30 clipper cuts a day, how often should I be changing the bushings, greasing the inside? I have blowen out 2 pairs in less then 2 yrs.. I do grease them and clean them every 3 months.. but I still end up blowing out motors with in 6-9 months.. im on my 3rd pair now.. the blades wobble alot also..
I used my Oster Classic 76 clippers for the first time and they got hot in 5 minutes. The blade DID NOT get hot. What got hot was the area where you hold the clippers. Anyone know what could be wrong with them? Remember these are new clippers fresh out the box that I used for the first time. I did open them up to check and make sure there was lubrication inside the clipper and it was. So should I return these clippers or is this common? Or is there something I can do to stop them from getting hot within 5 minutes of use?
Hello, would you say too still do the gear lube 2x a year if I'm using it for myself every 6-8 weeks? Also, how long do you think the brush pair would last for? I already do the blade wash and use the blade lube after each hair cut. I skipped buying the disinfectant spray just because I'm the only one using this. Thanks!
I tried greasing the Clipper but didn't see anything coming out, and so I took it apart to see if there was grease at the bottom and there wasn't. Any ideas? ***(This Is Before) I did just get them when I took the face plate off and saw that there was a bunch of old grease so I cleaned it off.
Oster Pro Style/// Hi. When should I grease my clipper? I just bought a new one but I don't know if I have to grease it first before my first hair cut?.
Dear Sir. Its good to see you. How are you? Please may I take a moment of your time to ask you... While taking the gears apart on Classic 76 to apply new grease a small washer fell out on the floor where does it go back? I will look on the manual. I hope to get a reply asp. Im greatful. From Craig. UK.
I have been a barber for almost 15 years.an i dnt know when they put the lube port on the side.but i just didnt pay attention to it.🤦♂️🤣.so ill have a 76 til im 76😂.
10 YEARS OLD BUT STILL PERFECT INSTRUCTIONS. Excellent. Thank you!
I love that with every step he’s explaining what he’s doing. Very detailed what needs attention and what happens if it’s not attended to. 👏🏻👏🏻

How do you oil them? My wife has the limited edition and there’s no oil port like the model in the video. I can’t seem to find any answers online
@robertpaullson2133
Turn the Clippers on.

@TisaCrowner not sure. Mine is too. Lol. I didn't do anything with mine. I guess there is a reason why they call them classic. Lol.
This is one of the best videos I have ever seen on cleaning these clippers. Very detailed 💯💯💯💯💯
Excellent video. Your speech is clear, the speed is perfect, the information is exactly what is needed. I refer to it often. Thank you!
A very useful tutorial which should come with every new Oster clipper.
Agreed. The pack-in instructions (for new owners) is very lacking in diagrams. I expect the outer casing to vary by model and when it was made, but the inner workings to change very little.
Very comprehensive and informative
Thank you! Very well done, clearly spoken and demonstrated. This shows your company has a commitment to quality and to its customers.

I've been a barber for over thirty years. Great job, brother. 100% correct with good advise and on the time to perform the maintenance.
One of the best RUclips videos I've ever seen about anything! Thanks! I still have my first original black Oster 76 from 1976 when I graduated from barber school! It's cut thousands of crewcuts, flat tops and whiffles, and still runs like a champ!
Excellent- and well-done demonstration. I bought classic 76 family hair. Thank you so much.
Thank you for this video. I have followed your instructions for the second time and taken all the parts out and put back in successfully. A must tutorial for these clippers.

"AYY ! I wondered what happened to the Fonz" Thanks for sharing clipper repair.
GOOD INFO!! solved my issue, replaced carbon brush and started working just fine!!
1. Always dust off blade 00:17
2. Wash blade regularly (at least one a week) 00:45
3. After washing blade, apply blade lube 1:25
4. Apply blade disinfectant 1:40
5. Apply drop of blade oil to ball bearing (at least once a month) 2:08
6. Keep vents clear (always) 3:02
7. Replace carbon brush (when necessary) 3:42
8. Replace gear lube (every 6 months) 7:05
Wow, why am I just now finding this. Owened my 76 since my early 20s..
So awesome Thank you!
Love my Classic 76! Looks like I need to do a little maintenance. 😂😂
This is informative video. I learned some useful home maintenance that I'm sure will save me some money and a headache.
If you do an update on this video, please zoom in a little closer. Although zooming in may not help me much (lol) younger eyes should benefit from it. Thanks my friend. Great Video!
Thank you for this great instruction! Best maintenance my clippers ever had!!
Excellent tutorial on maintenance of the Classic 76. Thank you.
Awesome instructional video, very clear and concise!
Excellent tutorial. Clear and precise explanations. Thanks man.
Crazy how old and vintage this video is, just like a dudes sideburns lol 80s/90s video and yet waaaaay better than any other video on RUclips that is made in this actual year!!!
Awesome video, I really liked the patience with which you explained each step, well done.
I feel like I should dress as slick as this guy when I’m servicing my clippers.
This video is still very relevant and useful. (love those sideburns)
Thank you, this was a perfect tutorial for my new Oster...
Don't judge a book by its cover, this video is great
Great instructional video! I appreciate it OSTER!!!
This is an excellent video. Thank you for this.
Awesome, this is exactly what I was looking for.
You make awesome videos!!!! Your videographer is spot on and you move at just the right pace so that someone can follow along with you. Thank you for making these videos. I subscribed to your channel.

Excellent explanation for an excellent product
Thank You for share, blessings.
Changing clocks tonight. What a coincidence! Great video.
This was very informative. Thank You, I just want to know when to use the clipper grease. I was using rubbing alcohol to clean the blades, because I always was taught to use it to clean scissors.
Very informative video. Like someone else said It is a bit difficult to view as the resolution is very low.
Perfect instuction. Thank you
Greatest video ever . Thank you

Exactly what i was hoping to be educated about to keep my clippers good
Thanks for the information!!
Great video and great presenter.
Sweet flames and burns
thank you, great information and presentation!
great teacher
This is a great video
The music is awesome!!!
Excellent instructional. I would suggest that when a demonstration is given, that the video should zoom in close to the clipper (accepting that this video is from 2013, limited to 360p resolution). Example: Timestamp 7:33 is not zoomed in enough to adequately see what the gentleman is doing.
I have a tube of Oster product called Electric Clipper grease. What is this equivalent to? Gear lube?
Yes gear lube
whats the difference between clipper grease and lubricating oil.
Joshua Gabor grease is thick and gunky. oil is a liquid
Thanks for the info
excellent video, thank you
This was super helpful. Thank-you!
Why isnt the ball bearing on the older verison? I went to look for it on mine and it wasnt there. Is that bad that my 76 doesnt have the oil bearing on the outside of the case?
I have this question, too - and how do we oil our motors?
I've noticed that the limited editions (different colors) don't have the oil port, only the OG one has it
I use my Oster hair clipper to groom my poodles, works great!
Dont need blade wash only use a brush to clean hair
thanks friend perfect just what I needed
is it necessary to buy all three products? I understand the reason of getting oil but those disinfection and cleaning stuff? Is it just a gimmick?
The tube says electrical clipper grease. It helps to use the names on the tubes.
Thanks so much 🙏
so good. Thanks very much
My unit turns on, but the blades do not move, any suggestions. I use is maybe 8 times a 12 times a year. I agree this should come with every Oster. Great Job
just open the blades and clean them with a brush and lubricate them with the oil
Epic tutorial, easy to follow and extremely articulated. Thank you. Question, is there a homemade way of making a blade wash? If so, how do you make it?

GREAT VIDEO BRO
Thank you so much
It helped me a lot🙋
How and where are we supposed to store this? It says to not let the product's wires get tangled
simple and efficient. tks
Very helpful. Thank you
Serious Steven Seagal vibes
Just got them for personal use, good video. Hope they last me a decade or more
Thank you. Where does the flat washer go? It dropped out after taking the other parts out. It fits both shafts. I put it back on the bottom of the gear shaft since it left the lever a little too high with it on the lever shaft.
How do you oil the motor if you have an older model without the silver ball thing on the side?
I do not think you oil the motor on those.
Great thanks 😉
There's a washer on the bottom of the gear drive ;)
If I do 20-30 clipper cuts a day, how often should I be changing the bushings, greasing the inside? I have blowen out 2 pairs in less then 2 yrs.. I do grease them and clean them every 3 months.. but I still end up blowing out motors with in 6-9 months.. im on my 3rd pair now.. the blades wobble alot also..
Straight game 🔥
how do you know when you need to change the lever?
I used my Oster Classic 76 clippers for the first time and they got hot in 5 minutes. The blade DID NOT get hot. What got hot was the area where you hold the clippers. Later 76 blades
Try adding oil in the oil port on the side to keep the clippers cool.
Great video n info tks awesome I still hav my ostier. Clippers since middle 60 s
How do you oil the limited edition Oster 76 model that doesn’t have the ball bearing (oil port) on the side?
Very helpful video thank u, parts are available in Mexico too??
How do you oil the motor if you have the older models that don't have the button?
Im wondering the same thing. My limited edition 76s have no hole on side
You don’t

I did just get them when I took the face plate off and saw that there was a bunch of old grease so I cleaned it off.
About how many applications are you supposed to get from one tube of the grease?
Oster Pro Style/// Hi. When should I grease my clipper? I just bought a new one but I don't know if I have to grease it first before my first hair cut?.

I know this is very late and hope you figured it out by now but the washer goes back in first right under the gear drive.
I have been a barber for almost 15 years.an i dnt know when they put the lube port on the side.but i just didnt pay attention to it.🤦♂️🤣.so ill have a 76 til im 76😂.
Mine makes a very weak buzzing noise. Like it's working on 10% power
Thank you! Do you also have blade repairs ?
