I disagree. Slight angle works better for me, similar to a nose slide. If I’m approaching parallel, I end up leaning too far out so I fall out of the grind or have to pivot out to fakie. If I come at a slight angle, it allows me to be more on top of the ledge, making it easier to hold the grind and pop out.
I struggled so long with the Crooked grind, everytime i came off the ledge, the board flipped... Today i watched this clip, and landed the crooked grind on lock. Thanks for that! That pinching tip did the trick :-)
It blew my mind when I realized you are supposed to nudge your nose toward the ledge and not in front of you, I struggled for so long but I got it finally
I think you do the best tutorials I've ever seen... You really take the time to explain. And seing a hundred times the same perfect trick makes it printed in our brain. I think I'm gonna have this trick down soon thanks to you :)
This trick is possibly the easiest ledge trick I’ve ever learned (besides maybe noseslides) i was able to learn to lock into a crooked grind within a days work
I see on your channel you haven't done any balance tutorials. It is one of the essential tips for me to land tricks. It would be sick to see a tutorial on your point of view.
Learned these 3 days ago but cant go back to regular i always have to turn to fakie when i try to get back to regular i get into a willy grind then pop out :/
Yo, maybe you've worked it out on your own by now, but with nose mannies getting in is the main trick. This goes for manuals in general, of course, but with nose mannies you can't afford any nose drag or you'll stop dead and go flying, so a huge part is just mentally committing to keep that tail up. You may also have to compensate if the surface of the mannie pad is less smooth or feels different than the ground you're skating on. The trick, for me, is to really throw your weight into the trick to overcome the inevitable inertia from a rougher or slower-rolling surface: roll up at moderate speed, pop that tail, but then focus on shifting your body weight forward onto the curb. Don't just ollie and drop onto the nose, but try to ollie INTO the nose mannie, as this helps to overcome the shock of landing on your front wheels. Then the trick is to find your balance and hold that nose mannie. For me, it helps to keep the bulk of my weight on (the inside of) my front foot, while exerting slight pressure on the back foot to control the board. Hope this helps.
Great vid! I can't do that grind with speed... I manage to lock in at low speed but when I try increasing my speed it feels so different, i loose all my precision and body positionning to get into the grind. Any advice?? :)
no theyre easier imo 5050s you have to accurately pop and lean back when you land crooks you just kinda shove your front truck on to the ledge and if you hit it right its butter everytime
My biggest issue with this trick is the heel of my front foot touching the ledge.Even though i hang my front foot toes over the toe side edge of the board before i pop my front foot still shifts too far to the heel side edge of the board causing too much of my foot to hang off and my heel to touch either killing my grinding distance or just dead stopping me.How can i fix this?I've landed a couple of crooks but this is stopping me from getting them on lock.
Damn this is the exact thing that happens to me! It infuriates me. Even if I position my feet exactly as this tutorial it my foot still makes contact with the ledge stopping me dead. I don't know how to fix it 😭
Was wondering if you could do backside 180s or any tips, i can do frontside but ive struggled with backside for alot of my skating that ive done and its really annoying not being able to do a backside 180, would really help thanks bro. ps love your videos and your skating talent
I use to suck at bs 180s but the one key thing for me was to make sure i look at i nose before the pop and then focus on SPOTTING the landing after the pop. Also try to keep your back straight
this guy really know how to explain his skateboarding, excellent trick tips. best ive ever seen
the most important thing to remember is to come up PARALLEL not at an angle
Totally I realized this u can’t grind if you come angled
I disagree. Slight angle works better for me, similar to a nose slide. If I’m approaching parallel, I end up leaning too far out so I fall out of the grind or have to pivot out to fakie. @@SimonSaysRun ive struggled w the exact same issue for like half a year

Errytime i try i dont grind i tired bigger ledgens but still dont work Any tips ?
Either you're not going fast enough, not using enough wax, or not locking into it with a pinch
try going more parallel to the ledge
Lean back a little when you lock in, make sure your front foot isn't coming to far forward
Every time i ollie into it i get stuck no matter how much wax i put
Keep your weight centered on front feet slightly lean back, don’t lean forward and pinch with the arch/heel of your foot
I see now. No more of those weird flip things
it's all in the pinchh
I was so scared trying to do this
Is anyone else's pop out more like a kick turn out? Mine are and they're ugly af.
Tom Davidson learning china ollies might help.
