Building Our Kitchen Counters!

- We’ve come a long way since moving this shell of a home onto our property 9 months ago!
Today, we’re wrapping up our kitchen building with a countertop and sink! Of course there will be elements that come later, but for the meat and bones of this kitchen: we're just about done!
Again, we've found ourselves in the place of… “Do we want to spend a whole lot of money to get something that we sorta don’t want anyway (the nice kitchens aren’t in the budget) or do we want to build it ourselves and learn something new while also getting something that functions just right for our family?”
As you might have guessed and can clearly see in this video - we went with building it ourselves (Surprise, surprise).
Now that it is all said and done, we are SO happy with the way that this kitchen has turned out. For a Shed to House Conversion, this place is turning out to be pretty nice, if I may say so myself!
We might have made it up a bit as we went along, but that’s been the method that’s suited us well in this chapter.
I kept a little bit of the background chatter just so you can understand why I put so much music to our videos! ;-D. There is A LOT going on in this crazy household- but I guess that's why we call it "Growing Up Holt"!.

Wow!!! The counters look amazing!!! They really turned out stunning. Things are really starting to come together in the tiny house, is great to see the grand parents involved with the build, looks like everyone had a wonderful visit with them going to builtmore, it is such a beautiful place. I can’t to see what you all are doing next. Love every video you all post look forward to them.
What a beautiful home-made kitchen! Luxury is the atmosphere of a space, and your kitchen is luxurious! I've done curtains to cover open shelving before, and I didn't care for it. They wouldn't stay out of the way when I was getting things out of the cabinet, and they got dirty quick. Maybe some mini sliding barn doors that won't open into the working space leaving one section open to allow the doors to slide all on one track instead of overlapping? I'd put a door on that end piece to cover it yet make it accessible from the end. You could make some of them chalkboards for the littles to decorate. Thanks again for sharing.

Your kitchen is gorgeous. What a great job Ben and Tim did. Happy to see the family together, visiting Biltmore and Mount Mitchell. I used to live in NC and my son went to Cove Camp in Asheville every year at the Billy Graham Training Center. And we would also camp and hike on Mount Mitchell. My son is 38 now, but our memories of western NC summers are as clear as ever. God bless you all.

I didn't realize you were so close to where I live (relatively speaking), as I volunteer in Asheville just about 10 minutes from the Biltmore. I have lived on my acreage for 40 years here in WNC. Can't imagine living anywhere else and of course my children are here 😘.
Your kitchen has a feature that makes it unique: your own touch, it's a family project, with many of you building yourselves into it, so it's precious! And it looks great, too:))) Maybe some curtains down to hide things?
