As a almost 34 year old the steam deck got me into pc gaming. As a bonus i got to put various systems from my past on it as well thanks to emulation i honestly can't complain about what it is. Hopefully the next version will fix some of the issues the first gen has like you mentioned perhaps battery life and no longer having a border with a much better screen.
I'm just wondering why people want to attach the power bank at the back of the steam deck, just put it down. If you feel restricted, then buy a longer cable. I think it's good enough.
Haha I think the same thing I mean when you charge ur mobile you don't wanna attach the power brick on that so why the steam deck plus the power brick gets hot while charging ur device so why would you wanna attach it to the back where ur steam deck needs to have air. You have such a great point glad it's not just me thinking that lol
Some clarifications from the comments: 1. My unit may have a thermal problem that can be corrected by replacing the thermal pads and thermal paste 2. The game resolution in the game CAN be changed. Before launching the game, go to Properties -> General -> Game Resolution Thanks for letting me know!
I'm using my Deck mostly for commute and it's basically a teleport device for me as I just press the button and the next station is my destination. And this is exactly the reason for me against ROG Ally, where you just cannot switch it off and then start from where you left it (including cut scenes) like on Deck - ROG Ally doesn't have reliable sleep mode which kills it as a portable device for people who want to use on the go. Plus ROG Ally not even close to the modifications available for SteamDeck - from custom community controllers layouts and all the way to the 1200p screen, hall-effect joysticks and custom casing.
I have the Ally and I switched the sleep mode to hibernate instead and it works from starting where you left off. Been doing quick 15 minute sessions at work and it's been fine so far. It crashed once, but I always save before I have it hibernate.
Why such basic details aren’t said in nowadays reviews? Why everyone is pushing us to buy without really showing us the main points? I really was suppressed of the fans sound! I have seen tens of reviews but not a single one showed this! Which is the very basic idea of why we want to buy such an expensive device! Is to play AA or AAA. With that fan sound and other cons it’s really been an advertisement only to fool us. (Edited) you deserve a lot more subscribers! I hope you don’t change and stay honest like now :)
I said similar things on my channel. The reason that the Steam Deck was useless for me is because every game that I play on the Steam Deck could be played on my laptop which is also a portable device that I could take everywhere. And of course, I could do a ton more things on my laptop CONVENIENTLY a keyword. And I tend to like old games. I don't need a SUPER powerful system to play those. And even if I want to play new games, my laptop could still handle it. So, I'm planning on selling mine.
I got mine yesterday and I’m having a good time with it, I’m using it for not demanding games and emulation and for that it is great, and I can always go back to my PS5 or PC for more demanding games.
If you want to change the in-game resolution to something better that 720p, you just have to go into the properties of the desired game, into general, and change the resolution from "default" to "native"
I love my steam deck mostly for playing whatever game I’m addicted to on my lunch hour. Perfect battery life for the lunch hour. Generally play retro games while on the road to eek out many more hours of playtime.
To me the beauty of the steam deck is that I can actually play games again as a busy person. I only play on the steam deck now. Hell, I played Witcher 3 on the switch and that looked like ass. I just want to play the games I want where ever and whenever I can
Witcher 3 on switch, wow! I take my hat off to you :D I feel you, sometimes you got like 15 mins or so, and you instantly can play something on Steam Deck
I have a killer gaming rig, but I play my Deck way more. Laying down /playing away from a desk/ having to do something mundane/ socializing/ - while gaming can not be understated. The suspend feature alone is a God send to the people who have children or are constantly interrupted for any reason. Plus it's Valve.
💯 agree with the retro use 👍 Mine arrives Monday and will be my raspberry pi replacement that's been sitting in a box. This will be my new retro depository that will let me easily play the classics again! I have no intention of playing new AAA titles on this, so will be happy playing older games that look great & get hours of battery life out of it.
I never mind the fans at high speed. I can tune them out pretty easily. Plus, I mostly play docked so AAA games (at least from the previous gen and older) are still very enjoyable. I played and beat Red Dead 2 entirely on the Deck and loved every minute of it, but I can definitely understand if people feel differently based on tolerance, patience, and quality preference. I'm also a big fan of portability in gaming, so the fact that I can play an abundance of high quality games anywhere I want at such a low cost is incredible to me. If you haven't already, and you decide to keep the Deck, definitely check out the ability to optimize it to get the best experience out of every game, with stuff like proton and cryotuilities, among others.
It's the gold standard of gaming handhelds and consoles (not that I'm calling it a console) everywhere, it's like asking if money is worth having. Got mine for $543 instead of $679 on the 20% summer sale thingy. One of my best decisions ever
I’m mostly a Mac user and I have a ps5 so I wasn’t interested in this but a friend of mine convinced me to get it based on emulation, So I sold my switch and oculus to get one. I upgraded it to 2tb and installed windows so it can dual boot to try some pc games and Overall I’m loving it!!!! . I also use the windows side to use programs that’s not available on Mac OS. I’m happy with what I’ve got and will keep this until the wheels fall off!!
I think god of war runs just fine on the steam deck I dunno why you have an issue with it tbh. I love the steam deck I use my pc for cod but every other game I play on my steam deck it's just nice to be able to sit on the sofa and watch TV and play games at the same time and honestly I think the price of the steam deck is a steal I got the 64gb and upgraded it myself I love that that's an option where it isn't on the ally and honestly the price of the ally I'd rather get a pc. The steam deck isn't just get for people that are use to pc and isn't scared to tinker but it also is great for a person that just wants to play cozy games and the community is amazing and are willing to help. You don't see that kinda thing for the ally. Plus steam are constantly making improvements and customer support is pretty good too. I highly recommend the steam deck to everyone that's my view on this but thanks for the video.
You can change the max resolution games have by going into the game properties in steam, and setting the game resolution there. A checkmark will allow it to also apply on the internal screen as well
Steam deck really fit in my living condition! I am software engineer that require to use macbook for develop my works, and i dont like to have multiple laptop or another PC , since i moving around a lot between countries. But i still really avid gamer and really want to play PC games, which is i cannot do with my laptop (and i dont wanna do it, mac os really terrible for gaming, and so much hassle to switch between OS just for gaming). Also i have small window of time to actually sit down and play games, so i prefer to have simple handheld PC and laying down in my bed a few hours before sleep, rather than sit down in desk, which i do a whole day with my job
Deck replaced my laptop. It is lighter, holds battery much better, and I enjoy the form factor. Every weekend I go to house out of town, and when I do, I find time for games, but often get interrupted. I do have easy access to charger, but we expect more power outages due to russian attacks. Planned power outages were about 4 hours each, sometimes longer. Laptop could only manage 3 hours if reading and hardly reached an hour playing indie games. Deck has no issues whatsoever pulling 4 hours playing the same games that made my laptop stutter... And all of that at same cost as my old laptop! (About 4 years old) I have a strong PC at home as well, and I tend to gravitate to it. After workdays, I am not bothered much, too. But I intend to try game streaming from it onto deck, i can see it being comfy in winter, and making it so much easier to play old games I can't be assed to get working on deck. Honeymoon period wore off, I do play it less. But I didn't touch the old laptop since I got it, so it fit my use case pretty much perfectly
To each their own. I have a decent pc and run games at 1440p but I also work on the same PC. I do enjoy my big titles there, but at the end of the day I just prefer to stretch on my couch and play something on my steam deck for a bit. I dont even use it outside of my home. If I want to play more demanding game I may stream it from my pc via steam. As a bonus, I discovered emudeck and had a blast playing most of armored core titles before release of a new one. I am enjoying AC6 on a big screen for story missions and play it on steam deck when I want to replay a mission on a work break or before going to bed. Steam deck became my daily companion and it is helping me with my huge backlog right now.
For me, the primary factor was price. I cannot afford to build an actual good gaming PC right now, so a docked Steam Deck is both my gaming PC and my workstation (all I need is Google Docs and some very basic editing, so it's good enough for that). And after coming from being a Switch gamer for a few years, even the upscaled FSR resolutions look a lot better than what I am used to, so I don't mind that - to me it's absolute magic and I love that the game instantly looks better for a tiny cost to performance. I'm also enjoying actually being able to customize the hell out of everything, tinker with mods again just like I could when I had a PC as a kid, get all the plugins for the Deck itself, and enjoy Steam's prices instead of paying the Nintendo tax. P.S. I see a ton of people who use their Deck more even though they have a more powerful gaming PC - just to be able to play it in any room, in bed etc. Plus in that case you can just remote play the games and be unrestricted by the Steam Deck's specs at all. So it's worth considering keeping it for that.
Compared to Switch, I think you have significant visual improvements :) As for having two devices - I used to play Steam Deck in my bed before bed too, but the thing is, before I had this handheld, I used to read a book there. And I'm sure it's better to have time for both games and books. So it makes no sense to me to keep a handheld in my bedroom
@@trysometech52 That's true. There's only so much time every single day to do hobbies, and if one has multiple, having different spaces can make it easier. I wouldn't play games at my model painting desk, so I get it.
Kids, replacement parts being available on ifixit, track pads and because I didn't feel like dropping the money all at once the steam wallet can be filled until you have enough saved up.
any chances of checking out the upcoming lenovo legion go handheld (heard its the only commercial brand like asus that has USB4 function) ? just wondering (just a casual user).. is VRR thing is a must for handhelds, laptop and monitor use ? is a 144hz monitor similar to VRR ? or completely different ?
Steam Deck suits me as I'm just a casual gamer now, I don't like paying much for games or gaming hardware so the Steam Deck does the job, I've been playing Borderlands 2 all afternoon on the Deck and it handles the game well. I'm to lazy to tweak or adjust anything so the vanilla Steam Deck is fine for me.
Sure! But you better be prepared to rent a car there. It is difficult to get around in this country without one 8:04 - Lovcen National Park 8:18 - Boat Golden Frog 8:25 - Sveti Stefan
It's funny seeing you fight senator Armstrong in Metal Gear Rising while you talk in such a calm and mature manner about the Steam Deck, lol. Did you like the music that played during that fight?
That is awesome. Do you play a lot of PC gaming on your PC in secret without live streaming and have you played through a lot of PC games without ever streaming them?@@trysometech52
I just want to say that is awesome because SO many people seem to want to stream everything these days. Thank you for uploading friend. Love seeing your thoughts on these things!@@trysometech52
As far as the windows experience goes, this is my recomendation; if you need to get out of a game, use three finger touch jester and swipe up. With it you will have access to all windows on screen on top of that you can add an extra virtual desktop environment. I recommend this because it can allow you to access task manager on your device and shut down applications that are freezing
With Steam Deck Tools you can just press "Steam" button + "right menu" button for "Win + tab" You can see that here: 4:00, but you're right, I forgot about the touch jesters
you make some great videos, your presentation style and quality really shows it. keep it up, you'll grow so fast and dont worry about the haters, there are always people who will find a reason to spread negativity. most likely they are jealous of your achievements or are just terminally sad people. no but seriously keep it up, you make great videos
I have a gaming PC, and a Steamdeck. I barely use the Steamdeck, as if at home I use my PC. When I travel I'm with my family so I don't have much interest in playing games. I bought the Steamdeck Dock 'because shiny', and hoping it would inspire me to use it more. It hasn't. I bought a PS5 controller for the same reason, it hasn't. The battery life with the games I want to play is poor (1 to 1.5 hours). I would have taken a bigger bulge on the back for double battery life for example. I bought a USB stick and windows to try and dual boot, but haven't got around to it. I simply prefer to spend my time using my PC. As a 40+ that is obsessed with PCs so much my career is in IT, I thought I would love it. I just... don't... because I have other options. It even reminds me of my game gear, with massive external battery pack that I loved as a kid, but I still struggle lol. If my job took me away, it might fit the bill, but then I suspect a gaming laptop would be better. Your video made me try it again tonight, but I should probably just sell it lol. Edit: Also seems silly to me to buy such a powerful device and then play real basic emulated games. May as well have bought a cheaper device at that point.
So i own a high end gaming pc, steam deck and ps5. I use the steam deck for smaller indie titles that do not require that much power , Hades , hollow knight and even a few casual rounds of tekken. I also link the steam deck to use remote play for my ps 5 so i can play my playstation games via steam deck for remote play in my house, i can do the same for my pc if required. Essentially the steam deck is a birdging device between my pc and console to play in bed when watching shows with my wife so i get a bit of gaming without taking up a tv or monitor.
I think the Steam Deck is a perfect accessory for my Desktop PC. they both run a Linux variant (most of the time), and I can take my games and even projects on the go. And since I've got a mechanical keyboard that does both Bluetooth and wired, I don't need a laptop keyboard. But the biggest plus for me is that I can still be gaming during a heat wave, my PC gets waayyy too hot.
I would buy the steam deck tomorrow if it had an official GeForce now application to play these games at 1440p or 4k resolution at 120fps or 1080 at 240. Once it gets that, zero reason to have anything else tbh
My deck gets a lot of use on holiday. I see that you were driving. Take it with you on a plane/train journey or when you have a rest day on holiday. Comes in super use. Also you can't play your desktop in bed. Also the deck is a prescence device for me. IE instead of beimg on my RTX4080 rig in the man cave I'm in living room sat on the sofa and able to participate.
The only reason I own a steam deck and not a pc is because I do not have the room for a desktop pc. I live in a small camper and I like being able to comfortably game on my couch right next to my charger. Since I am usually right next to my charger I might just upgrade to the ROG Ally so i can more easily mod my games in windows instead of steam OS.
I am also not the kind of the person who will play while commuting or traveling, yet I find myself in love with the form factor that steam deck provides. I like staying in my bed, playing video games on a smaller screen, besides that it stays better in my hand than even dual sense, I like the feeling I get, visually it looks marvelous for me, many people find it large, for me, it's the perfect size. Furthermore, I beat Elden Ring on it, 30 fps, high video quality, I loved every second of it and I spend almost, 720000 secs on the steam deck... Of course, I don't like the idea to be restricted to 30, cos I don't care so much about 4k or other higher resolutions, yet I wish I could spend at least 6 h playing Elden Ring with 60 fps without being tied to the socket. However, I love playing indie games too, like 2d platformers, metroidvanias, rogue likes and sort of, and here you can easily play 4 h or even more, which is perfect to me.
Review is alittle lop sided. Been playing RDR2, Witcher3 and some other games that are older. Playing new games is an amazing experience. Cant say I can agree with your "just get a console" for the newer games statement, because this is not what portable gaming is about. Being able to play those console games on settings that are at the same fidelty or slightly less is an amazing experience. Also the battery is a mute point since most use bring a portable battery with them that will extend their gaming session from 2 hours to 5 or 6. More than enough. Ive been using it as my travel gaming device and its served me swimingly
Yes, my review is subjective and I was sharing my experience and it doesn't have to be the same as yours :) My point was that the mentioned RDR2 looks amazing on PC. And it's just a whole other level of gaming experience playing on a large TV, even compared to a 34" monitor. That's why it's hard for me to perceive such games on a 7". So if a person plans to use Steam Deck mostly at home, a PC/console would be a better choice But if you are happy with it, I don't mind and I'm not trying to change your mind. On the contrary, I was wondering how others use it
Well yeah, but the experience will be much less immersive. And some of them will be scrolling through Instagram at the same time, and then complain that the movie is boring and didn't impress them. It's about the same with games.
My only counter argument to suggesting the steamdeck is perfect for indie/older games is couldn't you just get a Nintendo switch? Much cheaper, better battery and more portable.
Switch itself might be cheaper, yes. But everyone knows their prices for games :D Besides, I already have a pretty good library on Steam, so maybe I'll give it a try later.
@@trysometech52 that's very true, steam store is cheaper. I am pretty much a console player and was looking into a steam deck to play older RTS games. I hear you can hook a mouse and keyboard up to it. I do miss strategy games like C@C
I was thinking about that. Also I already have a big library of games in Steam/Epic Games + GamePass. Maybe when the new Switch will release i'll try it
That’s where you’re wrong because I play on my Rog ally with same games u playing for same amount of time in steam deck all you need is G help if you don’t use armoire crate the Rog ally is hella great plus it can be a pc with propriety gpu and people are making oculink for the Rog ally imagine a handheld console becoming pc steam deck is aaight but it lacks vrr, 120hz, compute power/ dockable pc I even use steam deck to watch anime before sleeping or playing that new sea of stars
steamdeck is a game changer, but the one reason why i stay away from it is because it doesnt really provide me with what im looking for on a hand held. i wanted to like the rog ally. The big reason for this is because i wanted a handheld that can handle 1080p gaming incase i want to play on a big monitor and still enjoy the graphics of a game. sadly rog ally's design flaw with the sd card made me not want to jump the gun. now im just hoping lenovo go is better at least until a new steam deck comes out with better hardware for 1080p gaming.
Sounds reasonable. If Lenovo doesn't suit you, you can swap the SSD on Ally for a higher capacity one. Not the best way to solve the problem, but still
thats not the issue im talking about. the issue is where asus decided to put the sd slot near where most of the internal heat is coming from and its frying a lot of sd's from other users. its a pretty stupid design.@@trysometech52
No worries bro, one day you'll get something better. I had literally nothing to play on for a long period, only when I visited friends and played with them on their console/PC
Triple A games run perfectly on the steamdeck... 2nd.. you should had installed windows 10 instead of 11.. w10 works great !!! 3rd.. it's already a fully functional pc... but you need knowledge of lunix to fully utilize it 4th fan noise isn't that bad, yes it can get loud if the fans ramp up, but even playing sf6 , apex and others.. it's not a distraction
@trysometech52 perfectly.. Stable at 6p fps Mid to high settings And battery lasting close to 2 hrs With extremely stable gameplay No lag Responsive controls Etc Somethings you have to figure out for yourself. What's the best version of proton to use... Etc. But like I said.. for this you need knowledge of Linux. Those who are Linux users know where to find all of this. From your video.. you aren't a lunix user.
Like I said in the video, if it's good enough for you - I don't mind :) For me, perfect AAA gaming is 4k@90+ on a big screen. And 800p with drops under 30fps is not for me. You don't need to be a pro Linux user to change the proton version, it's quite simple, but I just like a regular user just want to select a game, hit "start" button, and play it.
Sure, owning both devices is useless when you’re alone and don’t game on the go. Then you can just sit at your pc. If you have a girlfriend who doesn’t game, kids or travel a lot on public transport then having a portable device that plays and syncs the same games as your pc is super convenient. I can play my pc games everywhere I want, just as easy as picking up a book. When my kids play in the living room, I’m playing a relaxing puzzle game. In the evening, when my wife is watching a show, I immerse myself in a game whilst I set right next to her on the coach. Otherwise I have to pick to be with my wife, while she does her thing or be on my own doing my own thing. Now I can do both!
My wife likes to watch me playing PC games on TV. And if she wants to watch a show, she got her own device for that. That's not a problem for us :) In public transport, I'd rather read a book, watch RUclips, or listen to music (this part is very subjective)
@@trysometech52 hey if you hooked up a PC to the TV you kill two birds with one stone. My TV is too small to play the games I like on it sadly and my wife doesn’t really want to watch the games I play. So it really is to each his own. I really don’t want to be tied down to either the TV or my home office, but you don’t have that issue it seems. Then I understand why you won’t need a handheld. On a train I’d rather read a book too, but when I’m on a trip I’d like to bring my steam deck as well. Unless I go camping of course.
Not trying to flex but in case you're interested in seeing my man's cave, I got a video of my home setup. PC is connected to the TV and monitor at the same time, and I just switch between them ruclips.net/video/MvyFG8OyEn4/видео.htmlsi=zm9M1iaz-DweaWN0
If graphical fidelity is something you care about, handhelds just arent for you. Even powerful devices like the Rog Ally become pointless the moment you realize battery can almost completely drown in 30 minutes. Its ridiculous. Handheld devices are at their best when you value portability to play anywhere regardless of graphical compromises. I own a PS5, Xbox, Meta Quest 2 ans Gaming PC. And my Steam Deck is my most used device. Do games look the greatest? Heck no. But the Steam Deck opens many gaming opportunities I would otherwise never have. Play games alongside daughter or wife using the TV for some quality time? Great! Got a few minutes to kill at a long line like the Car Wash, Bank, or School waiting to pick up daughter? For sure. Oportunities that would otherwise never exist without the Deck. Theres also the argument I work 8 hours a day in front of a desk. My idea of not fun and rest is NOT to sit in front of another desk to play games. Lying down in bed or in the couch with a Steam Deck? Much better.
But you also can play PS5/PC from the couch, right next to the TV. I used a PC in that way, just turn on Big Picture mode on Steam and you have a console :) Anyway, in other cases, it's an excellent device for you
yeah, i really wanted steamdeck too, cuz yeah so cool n stuff, + linux is amazing, allot better OS, the problem is there is not enough support.... but it has less bugs than windows.... yeah i hate windows even though i am IT administrator and i know way too much.... So i bought mine steamdeck and had it like for 3 months, and after that i just sold it, i rarely used it, mostly to watch videos on youtube in bed, gaming PC is always the win, i can just play anything but somehow i got far away from games and i play them less and less, talking about that i got red dead and cyberpunk, both which i did like 5% or less percent of story..... didnt turned them on afterwards.... :(
That's exactly my story. But when I was away from the games, i tried to play Katana Zero, and I was like WOW, games still can be fun sometimes. After that I competed Divinity: Original Sin 2 - masterpiece game. I think that when i'll get some free time, i'll go for Baldur's Gate 3
Almost every review that I've seen, was showing about how amazing Steam Deck is. I started out the opposite way At the same time, they were just playing heavy games like Spider-Man, Cyberpunk 2077, etc., but it feels like they played them 5 minutes for the record. Because problems with noise, heat, and sweating hands were a surprise for me. I haven't heard that before. And some other little things were unexpected for me.
so in the beginning you say you are tired to be seated on you desk playing on your top of the line pc, but then plug the steam deck to monitor in your desk, and in the end of the video you say you prefer the computer cuz handhelds doesnt make sense to you since when you travel you want to be offline from games....i dont see why you even bought the deck to begin with. i bought a steam deck cuz when i get at home im already tired of being all day in a desk on the front of the pc at work, and at home i want to chill laid on my sofa next to my wife while she watches her series and i play on my deck next to her. I hada switch which i sold cuz i was tired of paying overpriced games, and since most of the games i want to play, plays well on switch and most of the times are on sales, but a REAL SALE, not like eshop sales that are a joke of sales.
It was more like an experiment for me. I am 30+ and I was like: "Maybe handheld will bring me love to games back?" Actually, I competed 2 indie games on it, but after that, I didn't use it that often. Also, I am a tech geek, that's why I tried to connect it to the monitor and TV :D And by the way, I can also play on sofa in PC with gamepad, it's not like all the time I have to be at the desk
…standalone or not to…standalone…that is the question…i only buy handhelds that can emulate of the grid…goes on for hours…in my hand…that means no deck in spite of all its glory…its not for me…ridiculous large and very ugly design…tied up with a cord…thats a laugh…maybe lenovo with a non windows os will do the trick…and such beautiful design…not large because its turning into a…tablet…for now retroid pocket 3+ and ayn odin 2…
Agreed, just put it in your pocket and use longer cable. Let your body carry that extra weight.
So true!
I usually got a longish cord, and just keep the power bank in my pocket or bag
Convenience, mostly. You can get some pretty slim power banks. And it's easier to carry 1 device versus 2 and a long cable
Some clarifications from the comments:
1. My unit may have a thermal problem that can be corrected by replacing the thermal pads and thermal paste
2. The game resolution in the game CAN be changed. Before launching the game, go to Properties -> General -> Game Resolution
Thanks for letting me know!

You need to use hibernate mode instead of sleep on Ally. On the restore state can be less ideal since it's longer process but it works.
Thats windows fault. Windows is not a suitable OS for console.

And even if I want to play new games, my laptop could still handle it. So, I'm planning on selling mine.
you cant liecon bed, only move two thumbs to play everything on your laptop, not on your windows handhelds either, thats what Steam Deck do best.
Didn't know that, thanks!
I take my hat off to you :D
I feel you, sometimes you got like 15 mins or so, and you instantly can play something on Steam Deck
You will love it if you're playing old games enjoy!
Excuses 🤷♀️
It's the gold standard of gaming handhelds and consoles (not that I'm calling it a console) everywhere, it's like asking if money is worth having.
Got mine for $543 instead of $679 on the 20% summer sale thingy. One of my best decisions ever
It's worth it's money for sure, if you sure that you gonna use it more ofter than I do 🌚
@@trysometech52 it's one of the best investments someone can make imo
Best handheld hands down
I’m mostly a Mac user and I have a ps5 so I wasn’t interested in this but a friend of mine convinced me to get it based on emulation, So I sold my switch and oculus to get one. I upgraded it to 2tb and installed windows so it can dual boot to try some pc games and Overall I’m loving it!!!! . I also use the windows side to use programs that’s not available on Mac OS. I’m happy with what I’ve got and will keep this until the wheels fall off!!
Yeah, that sounds good 👍
I think god of war runs just fine on the steam deck I dunno why you have an issue with it tbh.
A checkmark will allow it to also apply on the internal screen as well
Yeah, thanks! Noted that in a pinned comment to not mislead people
very interesting and well detailed video. thanks
In your case it is a really good device. I work as a software engineer too, and I feel like I live next to a desk, which is not good for my spine
(About 4 years old)
I have a strong PC at home as well, and I tend to gravitate to it.
Steam deck was created with love and has a amazing community backing it up! Thats why it wins!!!
Steam deck became my daily companion and it is helping me with my huge backlog right now.
you can change the max resolution on the second monitor from game properties. .
Compared to Switch, I think you have significant visual improvements :)
As for having two devices - I used to play Steam Deck in my bed before bed too, but the thing is, before I had this handheld, I used to read a book there.
I feel like FSRR 3 is gonna be a game changer for the deck
any chances of checking out the upcoming lenovo legion go handheld (heard its the only commercial brand like asus that has USB4 function) ? just wondering (just a casual user).. is VRR thing is a must for handhelds, laptop and monitor use ? is a 144hz monitor similar to VRR ? or completely different ?
Steam Deck suits me as I'm just a casual gamer now, I don't like paying much for games or gaming hardware so the Steam Deck does the job, I've been playing Borderlands 2 all afternoon on the Deck and it handles the game well. I'm to lazy to tweak or adjust anything so the vanilla Steam Deck is fine for me.

It's funny seeing you fight senator Armstrong in Metal Gear Rising while you talk in such a calm and mature manner about the Steam Deck, lol.
Did you like the music that played during that fight?
:D
Heck yeah! I liked almost every boss fight music in that game, but fight with Armstrong was the best.
Love that game
That is awesome. Do you play a lot of PC gaming on your PC in secret without live streaming and have you played through a lot of PC games without ever streaming them?@@trysometech52
Yeah, a LOT of games, and none of them was streamed. But I've been playing less often lately, too much to do and not enough time
I just want to say that is awesome because SO many people seem to want to stream everything these days.
With Steam Deck Tools you can just press "Steam" button + "right menu" button for "Win + tab"
You can see that here: 4:00, but you're right, I forgot about the touch jesters
you make some great videos, your presentation style and quality really shows it. keep it up, you'll grow so fast and dont worry about the haters, there are always people who will find a reason to spread negativity. most likely they are jealous of your achievements or are just terminally sad people. no but seriously keep it up, you make great videos
Thank you my friend
I was impressed how good God Of War looked on steam deck.
I just upgraded my 64gb to 1tb for 60 bucks ... can't really complain about that
I have a gaming PC, and a Steamdeck.
Sounds like it can replace a desktop PC for your needs
@@trysometech52 Yeah, it can do 70% of what my PC can do. But I do prefer my PC for rendering and triple A gaming
Doesn’t matter because the Lenovo legion go is going to come and blow them both out of the water except in price lol
I like the ROG over Steam because it can launch any launcher, it’s smaller, better feeling and better performance.
The steam deck’s portability is usfull for when I go on work trips as i am wanting a distraction especially on long flights
Maybe FSR 3 will give you that 60 fps soon :) It should be available on Steam Deck as well
@trysometech52 FSR3!!! Can't wait, it's the future for these handhelds, if all goes well
Review is alittle lop sided.
Yes, my review is subjective and I was sharing my experience and it doesn't have to be the same as yours :)
My point was that the mentioned RDR2 looks amazing on PC. And it's just a whole other level of gaming experience playing on a large TV, even compared to a 34" monitor. That's why it's hard for me to perceive such games on a 7". So if a person plans to use Steam Deck mostly at home, a PC/console would be a better choice
But if you are happy with it, I don't mind and I'm not trying to change your mind. On the contrary, I was wondering how others use it
I use it when I travel to a different city where my mom lives and I cant bring the whole computer
Great video!
Funnily enough, a lot of people do watch movies like Avatar on their phones, especially younger people.
Well yeah, but the experience will be much less immersive. And some of them will be scrolling through Instagram at the same time, and then complain that the movie is boring and didn't impress them. It's about the same with games.
@@trysometech52 Oh for sure. I'm very picky about how I watch movies. I'm just saying that the younger market probably doesn't care as much as we do.
My only counter argument to suggesting the steamdeck is perfect for indie/older games is couldn't you just get a Nintendo switch? Much cheaper, better battery and more portable.
Switch itself might be cheaper, yes. But everyone knows their prices for games :D
Besides, I already have a pretty good library on Steam, so maybe I'll give it a try later.
@@trysometech52 that's very true, steam store is cheaper. I am pretty much a console player and was looking into a steam deck to play older RTS games. I hear you can hook a mouse and keyboard up to it. I do miss strategy games like C@C

beautiful view!!!
steamdeck is a game changer, but the one reason why i stay away from it is because it doesnt really provide me with what im looking for on a hand held.
i wanted to like the rog ally.
Yeah, I know. I just meant that with a different SSD, the SD card might not be needed :)
@@trysometech52 oh! I havent thought about that actually. good idea. though i might just wait for lenovo go see if its actually better though.
For anybody who only have basic laptop and often traveling, steamdeck or rog ally is the solution for playing games😂
What about a gaming laptop, theoretically?
I can play games at 25 FPS if monitor supports 50 Hz (25 = 1/2 of 50) especially racing games. My expectations are that low xD.
No worries bro, one day you'll get something better. I had literally nothing to play on for a long period, only when I visited friends and played with them on their console/PC
Power bank taped give me a break lol I’m sorry I love my deck and it performs better because they have something others cannot replicate
Triple A games run perfectly on the steamdeck...
2nd.. you should had installed windows 10 instead of 11.. w10 works great !!!
3rd.. it's already a fully functional pc... but you need knowledge of lunix to fully utilize it
4th fan noise isn't that bad, yes it can get loud if the fans ramp up, but even playing sf6 , apex and others.. it's not a distraction
Everyone has their own comfort level. Idk how you call that "perfectly" :)
@trysometech52 perfectly..
Stable at 6p fps
Mid to high settings
And battery lasting close to 2 hrs
With extremely stable gameplay
No lag
Responsive controls
Etc
Somethings you have to figure out for yourself.
What's the best version of proton to use... Etc.
But like I said.. for this you need knowledge of Linux. Those who are Linux users know where to find all of this. From your video.. you aren't a lunix user.
Like I said in the video, if it's good enough for you - I don't mind :)
For me, perfect AAA gaming is 4k@90+ on a big screen.
And 800p with drops under 30fps is not for me. You don't need to be a pro Linux user to change the proton version, it's quite simple, but I just like a regular user just want to select a game, hit "start" button, and play it.
Посмотрел,класс и без перевода почти все понял. Так держать.
what i can say is you don't deny your steam deck its purpose *proud jetstream Sam noise*
That's not a problem for us :)
In public transport, I'd rather read a book, watch RUclips, or listen to music (this part is very subjective)

I don't like indie games and I've never liked handhelds since the Gameboy in the early 90's.
So, you got one of the bad fans... swap it out for an updated better fan!
I used a PC in that way, just turn on Big Picture mode on Steam and you have a console :)
Anyway, in other cases, it's an excellent device for you
yeah, i really wanted steamdeck too, cuz yeah so cool n stuff, + linux is amazing, allot better OS, the problem is there is not enough support.... but it has less bugs than windows.... yeah i hate windows even though i am IT administrator and i know way too much....
Life has it seasons, try not to worry too much, and to embrace what comes. In the end it will make sense. 😊

At the same time, they were just playing heavy games like Spider-Man, Cyberpunk 2077, etc., but it feels like they played them 5 minutes for the record. so in the beginning you say you are tired to be seated on you desk playing on your top of the line pc, but then plug the steam deck to monitor in your desk, and in the end of the video you say you prefer the computer cuz handhelds doesnt make sense to you since when you travel you want to be offline from games....i dont see why you even bought the deck to begin with. i bought a steam deck cuz when i get at home im already tired of being all day in a desk on the front of the pc at work, and at home i want to chill laid on my sofa next to my wife while she watches her series and i play on my deck next to her. I hada switch which i sold cuz i was tired of paying overpriced games, and since most of the games i want to play, plays well on switch and most of the times are on sales, but a REAL SALE, not like eshop sales that are a joke of sales.
It was more like an experiment for me. I am 30+ and I was like: "Maybe handheld will bring me love to games back?"
Actually, I competed 2 indie games on it, but after that, I didn't use it that often.
Also, I am a tech geek, that's why I tried to connect it to the monitor and TV :D
And by the way, I can also play on sofa in PC with gamepad, it's not like all the time I have to be at the desk
