As a religious Jew so great to see your curiosity, we love the questions and interest. Also, love your point about male comradery, so often people criticize Jews for having men and women separate for different occasions, but there is a huge benefit for the men to have their time together as men without feeling pressured to look good for the girls, and the same for the girls, they can really develop to be uniquely themselves without feeling the pressure to impress or compete with other girls, it’s a happy healthy way to grow, especially as a teen, and as an adult it keeps marriages intact.

Was looking forward to more videos.
As a Jewish orthodox guy, it is awesome to see someone not from our community and culture enjoying Jewish music.
The guy in the beginning is an actor and not Yaakov Shwekey. This song is basically saying that it's awesome to be a jew because we have so much good things (Mitsvos) we do that makes us happy.
You definitely will get new subscribers and much more views. Your videos and reactions to our music is just so much fun to watch. Keep'em coming.
You already reviewed in the past Mordechai Schapiro and Benny Friedman, this video is a colab between the 2 of them, I'm sure you will love it, it's called L'chai Olamim.

The thing the boy put over his head is called a tallis. It is similar to tzitzis in that it has four corners with strings but the tallis is worn more like a shawl and is only worn during prayer. The tzitzis are worn all day.
The pool is a mikvah, a ritual bath. Men dip in it, some every day, some just before shabbos, and some just before holidays. Married women are required to dip in it at certain times (a week after having a period to put it simply, but it is a little more complex than that). And when buying new utensils, dishes, etc they are dipped in the mikvah before they are used.

The Jewish school is called a Yeshiva and they're studying in pairs which is the classic way of learning Torah.
The outfit they're wearing is the classic dress code for many circles in the orthodox-Jewish community.
The shawl is called a tallis and its worn during prayers with tefillin. The boxes are part of the tefillin and inside are pieces of parchment with select portions of scripture. (Mezuzos as well, have portions of scripture inside.) The "pool" is called a mikvah used for ritual purification. It can be for certain objects or people, though its a complicated subject so I would leave all the details for the experts (I'm sure there are video explanations out there)
Yaakov Shwekey is singing but he isn't in the video. I do suggest you look for more of his content because he has plenty of different kinds of songs (some in English), there are live performances and he's is without a doubt one of the greatest Jewish performers of today.
I am seriously impressed with how much you've picked up from watching these few videos! Loving it! 😄

As an amateur musician I just wanna add an ethno-musical note here. Shwekey's Family roots are in the Syrian Jewish community. ( Which is now largely in Brooklyn, New York and Deal, New Jersey). Many of his traditional Hebrew songs (example Rachem) are sung in the ashkenazi musical style. (Ashkenaz technically refers to originating in Germany, but is largely used to apply to Jews of European origin; and much of the more traditional style of Jewish music that we hear is actually associated more with Eastern European and Slavic influences than Western). In any case, this song kind of shows another 'specialty' of Schwecky, singing songs which musically mix elements of an Ashkenazi influence (most of the words in the song including Yid are Yiddish, in other words a European Jewish language that was virtually unheard of in the middle east), while the chorus 4:14 has a decidedly middle eastern sound (it actually utilizes a mode which is not at all Western, musically), a nod to his ancestors Syrian roots.

6:30 - The Tallit is under the category of clothing that has Tsitsit (strings attached to four-corner garments). The Tallit is more formal and used for prayer. It's not worn beyond prayer (unless you're one of those who would wear one the entire Sabbath day).

  • @NIF18
    @NIF18 2 года назад +11

So this is a typical "yeshiva" scene (boys highschool).
The song is pumpin. As far as shwekey's music videos go though....
I wouldn't put it in his top ten.... I'd recommend his song called "cry no more" OR "we are a miracle".
    Couple of tear-jerkers.

Studying together with a partner to figure out what the Talmud means is a big part of traditional education for Orthodox Jewish men. (It was not considered for women in the past, though there are some modern orthodox schools where women study Talmud nowadays. Nonetheless, videos made for widespread orthodox viewing are unlikely to feature anything considered controversial). We feel that studying Torah and understanding Talmud brings true joy, working hard to understand G-d's laws is an intellectual way of connecting with G-d. And it's not uncommon at all if we (or or kids) finally grasp something after trying to figure it out, to for example smack the study table, smile, and loudly say "oy, the pshat is so geshmak!" or something like that. (In English "wow, that explanation is SWEEEET!") So we definitely associate study with joy. In fact, one of our first blessings made every morning is a plea that G-d make His Torah sweet (enjoyable) to us.... That said, we don't usually erupt in spontaneous dancing WHILE studying. But we DO dance like crazy with the Torah on a holiday which just passed, indicating that joy. (And we hand out candies to kids to strengthen the association of Torah with sweetness, although I'm a dentist so i let others hand out the twizzlers 😄 and lollipops) You can see a bit of a depiction of that celebration in the M.Shapiro and Benny Friedman video which a few have recommended.. ruclips.net/video/zyxAQ8RpzPI/видео.html .... though in reality, the dancing is with actual Torah scrolls......

And regarding the learning. It is a Beit Medrash. Where you study torah. 2 people learn together and do a lot of argument which is generally meant to help understand the context. So it is all with love. For a Jewish boy the learning itself is a lot of fun but generally there isn't any music or dancing in a Beit Medrash. Heres the deal with the knife. When we buy new dishes, we purify them by dipping them in the mikva (the special pool) before use. So the kid was going to dip a knife in the mikva (as if it was new). Once he got there, he decided to jump in as if he was purifying himself. In actual reality, there are times when men go to the mikva for symbolic purification. However, that's not done while wearing clothing like in this video.

The pool of water that the boy jumping into its called a "mikvah". It is used for cleaning and purification, for people (in an impure state) and before using a new tool.
Our sages compared that as the "mikvah" cleanses the impure, Almighty God cleanses and purifies the Israelites (the Jewish people). So since the video talks about how fun it is to be an "Id" (Jew) I believe they are symbolizing this idea when the boy comes to purify the new knife in the "Mikvah", he ends up jumping into himself.

This video portrays a "Lithuanian" style (aka "Yeshivish") yeshiva setting. It's ultra-orthodox, but not chassidic. The males wear white shirts, dark pants, and Italian fedoras. Instead of long side-curls, they have shorter ones tucked behind the ears, if at all. The Lithuanian Yeshiva culture is hyper-focused on studying (mainly Talmud). Whereas Chassidic culture, while also placing importance on Talmud study, is more multi-faceted and complex.

Yaakov shwekey did not appear in the video. In the video you saw guys sitting and studying Gemara in a yeshiva. The guy put a tallit on his head. the tzizit you wear all the time. But with the tallit you pray.
At the end of the song the guy jumped into a small pool.. it's called a "mikvah". In a mikvah there is water that purifies a person before prayer in the morning or before Shabbat or on days like Yom Kippur. Women also use the mikvah but for other things...
And finally, there is a lot of joy and an optimistic outlook in the Jewish world that stems from faith in God. A person believes that everything that happens is for the best and with God's help.... and no, no one takes out a guitar and starts playing in the middle of a Gemara lesson .lol.

    ruclips.net/video/F_iZJnFyxOY/видео.html
This song is alo a collaboration of different singers
    It's from 12 years ago.
It's old so the quality is not good
Fun fact my father appears at 3:03 , he was running the choir .
You will see some singers you recognize.
