    Brings back very happy memories of going to the Cinema as a Child, growing up back in the 1960's. Our favourite Cinema was "The Piccadilly ", (ABC Sparkbrook, Birmingham). The days when you had proper, Art Deco Cinemas, running continuous performances, starting with a supporting film, then the adverts and trailers, followed by the main feature. All presented professionally by the Projection Staff, with curtains in front of the screen and the non-sync music in between. When the non-sync music faded, the lights dimmed, the curtains opened and that magical beam of light from the projection room filled the screen, that was the magic of going to the Cinema back then.

    These ads make me so much hungrier than the ads know. It seems as if they use too much gross out imagery and loud and obnoxious people in food ads today. These are so much more pleasant, the music, the voice over, everything!!

    Brings back the memories of 1964 very well, the old money and visits to the old Palace and Odeon cinemas in Brentwood with good old mum and dad at the time.

      Ah yes, I saw my first 'X' film at The Palace, "Whatever happened to Baby Jane". I remember my excitement when I saw the trailer for 'Dr No' at the Odeon. Pity they demolished The Palace.

    In the 1970's, during intermission, I always had a kia-ora orange drink in that plastic tube with straw & a lyons maid tub of ice cream with wooden scoop from the usherette.Just like in above adverts.Anyone remember it was dark & loud & the usherette shone a mini torch over the tray.Halcyon days.

    Nice to see a modern transfer of this stuff; there's a lot of it on YT but sadly it's from old VHS compilations. I just love ephemera like this! I always fancied the lady in the Macleans ad, have to say! She'd be about 80 now, I'm sure! Thanks for posting.
    Edit to add: I collect old library music and by accident discovered that the music at 4:49 is from a Conroy 78rpm record (BM 199) from 1959, and is called "Crystal Ball" and at 8:35 there's "Planetarium" from the same record.

    Such a pristine, glamorous time ; the women looked fantastic and even the men looked great. It seems like the old school glamour went away in the 70s and the glamour of the 80's didn't have the warmth of the 60's.

    For info : The Pearl and Dean clip is from the 1980's as the telephone number for inner london was 071 in the 60's and 70's it was 01

    • @MysteryManfrom79
      @MysteryManfrom79 4 года назад +1

      That Pearl and Dean ident didn't even come out until the early 70s. The end ident did not have a telephone number on it in the 70s and 80s either, that was added in the early 90s when the 071 number replaced the 01, and it was updated again in 1995 when the 0171 number came out.

    • @FranzSanchez-ky9up
      @FranzSanchez-ky9up 2 года назад

      They used those titles for years, though. I remember as a kid in the 90's thinking they seemed dated. In the late 90's/early 2000s they slicked it up a bit with C.G.I, but they more or less kept the same design. Not sure if Pearl and Dean are still a thing.

      Funny you should say that; they didn't really have ads at the cinema in the States like we did in the UK, except for the concessions, like you say. These adverts are being run slighter faster than normal, like a 45 rpm record being played at 48 rpm. I also have a ten minute reel of 35mm cinema sales trailers and Pearl and Dean titles from the 1960s that I saved from my time as a projectionist. I had them transferred to a DVD-R and you'll find them here on RUclips uploaded in two five minute parts.
