How to repair Intex challenger k2 inflatable kayak

- In this video I'll show you how to repair a vinyl intex challenger K2 intex kayak that's seams have started to split. These vinyl Kayaks are actually very easy to repair and can provide you with yours more use once they start to leak if correctly repaired. These Kayaks are supposed to be really hard to sink and I've pretty much pushed mine to the limits over the last 3 years. Remember to use a good quality Vinyl glue, I was really struggling to find it on the island so I just had these little tubes, but ideally you'd want the kind that you brush on from a can.
So I have this Kayak. Use Tear-Aid Type B......It will work. I have tried truthfully everything cause my kayak constantly gets holes(don't know how). What Finally worked was the tear aid. Ordered it on Amazon $26 for a 3x5ft roll. You won't be dissapointed. ✌🏾
honestly Brazil was just too damn hot for this kayak , pushed it hard on some long hot ocean missions ....it was never the same. Guess the intense heat of the air just destroyed the seams

You put patches over tape - ya, that will work!

Update!!! - Ok so this video was pretty popular , you can repair some damage to the seams like this....however in retrospect this particular repair was a failure due to the extreme abuse it suffered. Extreme heat , over expansion , long ocean trips and lending it to an uncle who did god knows what with it. Bottom line is you can repair it , but this kayak can only take moderate abuse. BEST FOR STILL BODIES OF WATER AND MODERATE TEMPERATURES - it won't survive tropical head and rough conditions.

Thanks, … some good ideas, our INTEX , SUPPLIED patches not work either , on two K1 Kayaks…… Seems like the “PVC glue, “with good Vinyl patches ; May work on two,of the Leaks we FOUND. Still, trying to find other Seepages, Seam tear, or/ and or Punctures … Difficulty*** IN FINDING WHERE THE LEAK IS, IF “small “” seepage or leak,,,,,we Use INTEX K1 on calm lakes ( hopefully ) in Montana, did get***** 12-13 uses ( deflating & storing about 4-5 times before a leak developed, May have one Kayak repaired quick.).. Hard job is finding leaks……….

I've owned one less than a year in Amsterdam - very moderate temperatures, still and fresh water, and have been relatively careful with it. I did have to fold it for the winter as I don't have enough place to store it. Took it out for rides maybe 7-8 times. on The last trip got a puncture along the seam on the inside, about 10 cm behind the valve. Repaired that puncture successfully, only to get another tear about 2 cm long a little further down the seam. These things just aren't made to last super long. It is what is, as they say.
I'd agree ....I'm done with inflatable kayaks ....easy to transport , but they break
@@LifeAquaticDivingExperience Luckily, Intex replaced the body of the kayak for me for free! It was really nice of them! So, I can have another season riding this one on Amsterdam canals. I'd love to get a plastic one eventually, but yes, as you said - these are so easy to transport and store, it makes sense to have one or two around anyway. Besides, I noticed the new Intex is really stable. The previous one had more tendency to spin. So, they're improving bit by bit.
@@leokogan566 Its not a bad Kayak at all....But I was disappointed in the short life span , however I did use it in conditions of extreme heat , waves and saltwater.....I'm sure if you use it for it's intended purpose of still fresh water in moderate temperatures it might last longer.....seems packing it in and out of the bag every time puts a lot of stress on it. I like the product and patched it a few times but the seems literarily just started to separate , as soon as I fix one the next part or other side would split , so ultimately this major seem repair was a failure ....I did patch some regular holes and other extreme damage initially ......it's just this was such a heavy duty repair job I thought it would work. Sadly I could never try to exchange mine as it was very suspiciously badly damaged after leaving at a Brazilian uncles house ....I think they took it on holiday , the adult son wanted to go out on the water and his over protective mother knifed it ....she was known for these enraged acts .....they would ever admit it but the way the seam split initially looked suspiciously like a cut ..... Unless they burst it from such extreme over inflation , but I'm convinced it was a sabotage ....that I actually managed to repair.....Look at 0:28 that huge Blue vinyl on the left that was where it was done , I think that Blue Vinyl came with the kayak but I don't remember
Strange. Many other reviewers and RUclipsrs seem to use theirs quite a bit with no issue.
@@jerrodshackelford6773 the company sent me a replacement for free since the first one lasted only one season. It lasted one more season before getting a small puncture in a seam again - reparable. It is what it is. Buy one and have fun with it - maybe yours will last longer.

obawy, czy w kajaku nie zrobi się dziura, więc postanowiłem wybierać się z nim na spokojny zalew, uważając by nie zahaczyć dnem o kamienie. Niestety
nadmuchałem kajak, tak jak jestem przyzwyczajony pompować koło od roweru, myśląc sobie, że nic nie powinno strzelić. Napompowałem i spuściłem trochę powietrza
na próbę, później znów dopompowałem, zakręciłem zawór i chciałem pompować zawór numer 2, aż tu nagle po 2 sekundach słychać szum - zrobiła się dziura na przednim spodzie kajaka, jak na tym filmie: ruclips.net/video/zqPTbYK5i34/видео.html. Chciałem się zrelaksować bo miałem dość wszystkiego, a tu nawet ani razu sobie nie wypłynąłem. Łatka w takim przypadku też jest do niczego, chyba, że się ją nasmaruje jakimś mocnym klejem. Lepiej sobie kupić ponton renomowanej marki, bądź kajak za który trzeba dać sporo drożej.
What kind of vinilic have you used? and what about the glue? We have used the original patches that came with the kayak and a glue for plastic (a kind of silicon) and it didn't work!! :(
Those patches are feeble , work for small holes , in reality the extreme Brazilian heat blew out my seams ....I did manage one good patch ....some dodgy Brazilian uncle we stored it with screwed it up too ....I suspect the aunt might have taken a knife to it to prevent her adult son taking it out....I'm sure they over inflated it too :(
How do you like the k2 for solo kayaking? I am thinking about getting the k1 or k2. I like the prospect of being able to go out with a friend on the k2 but wonder if my experience would suffer using the k2 solo compared to the k1
Not sure if this is helpful, but I got the k1. I find it eventually a bit uncomfortable to sit in, because the leg space is rather tight (pushing your knees down), so on a multiple hour trip I have to regularly change my sitting-position somehow. I was always wondering if the k2 might be better in that regard, and without testing it, I do think it is. Most people I see in videos seem to sit quite comfortably (alone) in a k2.
How they otherwise compare while paddling solo, I don't know. I'd assume the k2 feels a bit more clunky, but ultimately not really that much worse.
If you spray it with soapy water the leaks will make bubbles, making them easier to find. Have you had any luck with temporary fixes such as tape? Clear Gorilla tape or Flex tape might work in a pinch. Flex tape is the most sticky tape I have ever seen.
yep use water to find the holes ..... in my case the seams were coming completely apart after extreme abuse and misuse of all kinds
Flex tape adheres remarkably well, but it couldn’t hold up to the pressure. I was able to apply the tape cleanly, no air bubbles. I then applied a larger tape patch over the first - for good measure. As I pumped the kayak up, an air bubble formed beneath the tape at the puncture site. I watched the air bubble beneath the patch go from zero to outside the tape within about 45 minutes. If I could get some tape on the other side of the puncture, it would likely have worked.

I don't remember I asked some guys at the marina ....I got it at general hardware store I think , Vinyl glue in a tin , you paint it on

My hole in on the floor of the kayak. Right where those seams are. How do you fix that?
With difficulty.. I'm thinking only with some kind of appropriate heat gun to melt new plastic patch in place... this is my issue too.. glue just isn't going to work because of the pressure on a seam on the base... I'm throwing it out today after months of hoping to locate a repair that works...

at $79 just buy a new one. Mine developed a hole on the bottom at a rib connection. It has been a massive and impossible job to fix it. I gave up. bought a better quality kayak.
Where on the planet earth are you living where you can purchase a quality inflatable kayak for $79?! I want to move there ! Lol
I would agree with you , but I was pretty broke then....the tropical heat blew out the seams, I bought a hard body ....I'm done with inflatables
Moral of the story, don't buy an inflatable kayak.

Probably the reason the repair sucked , I might have sanded I honestly don't remember ....Bottom line I would not recommend inflatable kayaks for extreme tropical heat or long ocean paddles
