      Yeah, I agree this comment completely. "We don't eat by our hands." But in fact we can't eat anyway. Because Turkey have economic crisis. Every item is so expensive. But it's a good country for tourists. But we can't say same thing for local people. So just enjoy it, You can even eat with your feet. It sounds cool for 4$ kebab. Like a bread price.

    With certain exceptions such as wraps and a few select dishes, Turks don't eat with their hands. Rice, pasta, salad and soup is always consumed with cutlery. You can eat pide with you hands though. That's ok. In general if the food in a restaurant is meant to be eaten by hand, you will see easy access wash basins outside the lavatories so you won't have to enter the lavatory to wash your hands before and after the meal..
    By the way, Turkish Kunefe is heavenly. It may be the best dessert in the world. You can have them remove the excess syrup so you will get less sugar and will be able to taste the cheese better. There are generally two kinds of Turkish Kunefe. One thicker version from Antakya/Hatay and the one you guys ate which is from Gaziantep.
    There is also an Arab variant called Kunafa which uses semolina instead of wheat vermicelli. I personally did not like it as much as the Turkish one but it's a matter of personal taste.

    • @sefabaskaya5847
      @sefabaskaya5847 3 года назад +66

      This was the most accurate comment. Especially when Dale eats the food with his hands, I thought that the audience would come to a conclusion that the Turks eat the food with their hands. The cutlery or spoon is in sealed papers so that it comes cleanly with the food. TURKS ARE NOT ARAB AND DON'T EAT WITH THEIR HANDS.

      Lezzet-i Şark is a triggering name for a Turkish I guess. It means “Doğu Lezzetleri” in Turkish but to attract arabic tourists in Taksim the shopowners use the old Turkish. (Most of the words and expressions come from arabic in old Turkish)

      Eating MUST with hand isn’t related with islam. Cleanliness is an important part of Islam. Allah says “God loves those who keep themselves clean,” in Quran. Also “Cleanliness is half of faith,” the Prophet said in one of his well-known hadiths.---- So as I said it can be a tradition I don’t really know in your cultures. Also It is okay if you eat something with hand unless your hands are clean. Please do not mix Islam and any other religion with traditions.

    My sister has lived in Istanbul for 30 years from Scotland, so I've been there many times staying for months at a time. A few points, the drink is called Ayran and it's Yogurt, water and salt. Remember it was the Turks who invented Yogurt. The guy should have told you about the knife and fork for the rest of the plate, the bulgar and salad etc. Or at least you should have figured it out. Turks don't eat with their hands, it's not India. Except to tear the bread and add the meat. That's kind of rude there and would be seen as kinda backwards to do it. The spicy sauce was to put on the Kebabs. The best type of Kebab in Istanbul is called Iskender Kebab, you should go for that sometime. Oh and WATP.
