- This video is a teardown of the Steelseries Aerox 5 Wireless Mouse. I will be showing you the inside of the mouse and discussing some of the issues I found with the design and build quality. Overall, I was disappointed with what I found and this video serves as a warning for anyone considering purchasing this mouse.

Do you know what kinda of micro-switch the middle mouse button is? The flat/silent white one?
The MMB button on my aerox3 is intermittent & I want to replace it. I think its a single-pin & soldered on the back?
Know any options I can buy to replace/fix it?
What's the size of the torx bit?
What was the screw driver you had to use?
I realize this thing has bigger issues, but I'll never understand why all manufacturers hide the main screws behind the feet. Makes replacing switches so much more of a pain.
bro theres isnt even an option to get replacements for most parts, you're just out of luck a lot of the time
@@kekmaestro3627 Well the manufacturers don't offer direct replacements, and some parts like F-Switch encoders are apparently OEM only, but in general the wear parts (feet, switches, encoders, batteries) absolutely have same or equivalent replacements available (on AliExpress, anyway).
Hi my USB port on the mouse is disconnecting and can only connect on a certain angle or pressure. what can i do with it? i have the same mouse
Helpfull video, should have watched it before buying this mouse. I´m struggleing with horrendous batterylife. Do you know whats the connector at the battery called? I´m thinking of trying to swatch out the battery for a bigger one...
I have one of the green tools you used to open but it’s edges are starting to wear down, any idea where I could get another?
Amazon, AliExpress or shop.beardedbob.com
Do you think it would be possible to swap the top shell from the Rival 5 onto this? Been looking for something around the shape and button count of the Rival 5, but wireless. Aerox has holes, so I'm not a fan of it, but thinking I might be able to just switch them out (I'm aware I'd lose the top RGB).
Not without some 3d printing magic and that’s if the parts fit
@@Beardedbob Good to know, thanks. I guess I could consider just making a custom solid shell for the Aerox 5, it wouldn't add that much weight since it could be thinner. Or I'll stick to my OG wired Basilisk for a little longer and hold out for that sub-80g solid-shell 8-button ergo holy grail. (Yes, I do actually use all eight buttons.)
Wanted to clean the left click cause it feels a lil sticky, but having to replace the pads to do so is a deal breaker. Tf they thinking
I think ima have to buy some other mouse. I’m having problems with the scroll wheel botton, if I press it down it doesn’t register in game 😔 it was amazing till it lasted
mine failed after 4 months of regular use. right mb activates with the press of left, middle and one of the thumb buttons...... very sad was my fave mouse ever until this crap
THANK YOU!
Hey, wanna thank you , my left mouse button didnt work so i open it like in your video and i clean my mouse, it works again !!!
It would be interesting to know about the exact battery dimensions. It looks to me, that there is still a lot headroom to replace the LiPo by a bigger unit: Simply remove the foam on top of the battery and put a bigger one. But for that, one might need the dimensions of it.
I bought myself that mouse and opened it: The physcial battery dimensions (including the battery protection circuit) are: 37x25x4mm. The long edge includes the battery protection circuit, so if you intend to buy a replacement battery and migrate the ciurcuit, order like 35mm length.
The foam on top of the battery is also 4mm high. Same as the battery.
I guess, it would be safe to replace the battery by 35x25x6mm (50% capacity buff) and put a thinner foam on top. There might also be some space to the left and right side by 5-7mm or so.
NOTE: You definitely want that foam for allowing the battery to extend (all LiPos do that over time until their point of failure). It will also reduce sharp punctures.
Have an Aerox 3, tried to just blow air into it and brush it, but it is too painful to clean to ever recommend to someone.
THX
Oh man, and I was partially thinking of taking apart my Aerox 9 to paint it, and that thing is probably even more complicated than this Aerox 5 teardown lol. I don’t think I trust myself to do it without breaking something
Aerox 9 is coming this week so that might help you see how to tear it down.
aerox 9 is actually really easy to disassemble, I was able to do it without a tutorial
oh boy just wait till you get to the aerox 9
Is this basically the aerox 3 wireless
yes with more side buttons
@@jotarokujo4615and worse buttons
I hope they will make more e-sport oriented version without this weird flick button dpi RGB and Bluetooth. I love the silver button on the side, tho.
Can't wait for razer to make a naga pro V2 hope it's way lighter if they didn't do much to it I'll send mine your way lol 🤣
Fingers crossed
absolutely tore mine apart cause i got frustrated... then got myself a g502 hero lol
you savage :-p
@@Beardedbob after many many clicks one of the petruding units that hits the left switch broke off which was annoying... Then i could not for the life of me get it open so yea i lost my temper a bit 😂
as long as you showed it who's boss :-p
@@Beardedbob mild regrets though but hey it is what it is (:
hehe.... it was clearly never the mouse for you
I thought my g pro wireless was hard to take apart lol
Don't even own that mouse, but already hate it)
I was gonna wash my aerox 5, but after watching this video amma sell it and buy aerox 9, lol
that is one stubborn mouse
Sure was lol
Steelseries need to remake these mouse without the holes... Every company has made their lightmouse. Steelseries is so far behind..
my mouse wheels got someone stuck in it and i need to get this Mf apart... why do they have to make it awkward to fix your own shit
worst mouse ive ever owned. after 6 months my scroll wheel died
Mine was started scrolling up slightly when I was trying to scroll down. This was after just a couple of months and QA was a pain in the ***. Just gave up after they wanted me to make a video with showing the problem. What the hell was I supposed to show them that wasn't very clear in all the messages and chat. Love my Steel Series Headset and keyboard but this mouse in TRASH!
Yes, the scroll wheel might be problematic for this model. I've been using my Aerox 5 for 4 months and the scroll wheel sometimes scrolls the wrong way (about once every 10 scrollings). Very annoying and sucks in FPS games for jumping. Also, mouse3 only activates if pressed quite hard. I probably have some gunk stuck under the wheel that I'd need to disassemble to get out.
@@thefastfreddie5824 I've been suffering the same issue for months. It sucks because I heavily value the side buttons that come with the mouse. Finding a lightweight wireless mouse with 5 side buttons is such an incredible pain in the ass.
@@suhtaeglane have you found a way to solve mouse3 having to be pressed hard other than dissassembly? thx
No. I'm gonna buy new skates and go the dissasembly route@@luvwraithz
Overengineered and overpriced. Well, then.
This mouse is completely and ridiculously overpriced
Agreed
This is such a bad mouse in so many ways
It could be better
Teardown aside, what would be the other things you dislike about it?
This would be the perfect mouse if they made the pads replaceable and the case accessible for cleaning. I’m sure that isn’t a business minded approach to design 😅
