  • From Bradley:
I want to tell you what’s been going on and share my excitement. As you know, Chris and I cut our Florida trip two weeks short because I was contacted by the family of Ruth Cronk. Ruth had left instructions for her family to find me after she passed away to help with her vast Barbie doll collection. After four days of discussion and research, we were offered the opportunity to purchase the collection in its entirety.
    Who was Ruth Cronk?
She was the fairy godmother of Barbie collectors. She was one of the original collectors, starting probably in the late 1960’s or early 70’s. She also documented things as she found them and worked to share this with other collectors. In 1976 she started the “No Name Newsletter” to connect Barbie collectors (to all of you new collectors: collecting used to be VERY hard work.) The Newsletter would be renamed the Barbie Gazette and she would continue this into the 1990’s. She attended Toy Fair, met Ruth Handler, and was one of the very few collectors who met the original Barbie fashion designer, Charlotte Johnson.
I will be sharing more of this information as we sort through the collection. We will also be offering items for sale: beginning with a few unique items at the Barbie Birthday Bash at the North Carolina Doll Toy and Miniature Museum event in Spencer North Carolina. For more information on that event, visit their website.
If you would like to find out more about Ruth and our offerings from her collection, please follow us at “The Swell Doll Shop” on Facebook.
