      But first of all, don't touch a snake if you're not sure what the feck it is! I was working on the Caribbean coast of Nicaragua. I'd been down to shower and found what I thought was a nonvenomous in red, black and yellow bands. We'd had a snake stew the week before, so I thought food!
      I walked back towards our basha, waving this snake, it was a very good sized one. Shouted, "Hey guys, supper!" '
      Where upon, I found myself in the middle of an ever increasing circle of people, disappearing into distance. My colleague was kind enough to stop about 20m away, then step back a bit closer. Then informs me what I'm holding is not what I thought was a constrictor, that the guys had cooked up the week before, but a Coral Snake. This a rather poisonous snake, and my best bet was getting a good windup, and lobbing it as far as a can.
      Which I did, as I'm here typing this. That was a crazy job.

    A 60 year old man in a 6000 year old universe has lived through 1% of all time. A 60 year old man living in a 40,000,000,000 + year universe is totally insignificant. Some egos can't handle the idea of their insignificance.

    • @EdwardHowton
      @EdwardHowton 3 месяца назад +1

      It's Kent Hovind. Even if he did one day wise up a tiny little bit and became an _old_ Earth creationist, he'd still think God made the entire universe just so he could call himself God's gift to mankind.
      Malignant narcissists think the universe is their _set dressing._

    • @DudeTheMighty
      @DudeTheMighty 3 месяца назад +19

      Buzz off with the insignificance tripe.
      We are made of dust that was forged in the belly of a star, descended from countless generations of beasts who fought through cataclysm after cataclysm, braved famine and drought, starvation and injury. Beasts that faced, and became, ever more fearsome and dangerous.
      We are the universe gaining consciousness and observing itself. For this brief, shining moment, there is a spark of life, of meaning, of joy and sorrow, of heroic victories and tragic defeats.
      We have bent nature to our own will. We have tamed fire and lightning, coaxed marvels and miracles from metal and stone.
      Insignificance indeed.

    • @daughterofyith5393
      @daughterofyith5393 3 месяца назад

      @@DudeTheMighty
      Hear me out.
      To the universe, you are insignificant. Space does not care about you. Apologists want to claim that the universe _does_ care in some way because it was made specifically for you. The cosmos won't look down and say "ah, they've mastered fire". None of the trillions of other planets have been impacted by us inventing the wheel, or by the actions of someone like John Wayne Gacy. Once you discard that idea and accept that in the cosmic scheme of things we do _not_ matter, you begin to realise that what makes you significant is the perception of the people around you.
      You don't matter to the universe. You don't matter to a god. You matter to the people who love you, you're important to those around you. Your life is impactful. Your life is significant, but not in some "I am better than every other creature" way or "the universe notices what I've accomplished" way. Your value comes from your relationships with other people.

      You have a point but I think the OP was referring to people of faith whose ego would be hurt if they are not chosen und maintained in a way they can comprehend. He doesn't stare that we are insignificant per se but relative to the chosen-people-narrative. So he may have a point as well
      Cheers.

      I'm a bit of a hobbyist linguist, and there's more to this than you might immediately think. The insular nature of his cultishness and geographical accents are one thing, but there's a whole other element to his cottonmouth.
      It's how his particular brand of sect believes Authority should speak, and being inarticulate serves a double purpose in that what he says doesn't actually matter and he doesn't _want_ his followers to understand him too clearly. It's like how conspiracy theorists never cite their sources. Someone might _check._ That'd be bad for him.
      It's why he's so prone to not finishing his sentences or veering wildly off on some tangent and never coming back to the original topic, and why he dodges every question put to him in a debate (including his own rhetorical ones). He's used to his audience basking in his Authority but having their shriveled brains glazed over with boredom. He wants them not to be thinking. Ever. Like that Grampa Simpson anecdote, right? You do that to people and they won't remember what you were talking about five seconds ago, but if you project absolute confidence, idiots will trust that what you said must've been brilliant.
      Apologetics has had _thousands of years_ to develop manipulation techniques like that. A great example of evolution.

      "Rattlesnake bite treatment typically involves managing symptoms, preventing complications and neutralizing the effects of venom.
      “What they'll do is if you're in the hospital or ambulance you'll get antivenom. It's the same antivenom for every rattlesnake. *There's a myth out there that you have to kill the rattlesnake and bring in the doctor's office so they know what antivenom to use, which is 100% false,” said Meyers.*
      “Do not kill the rattlesnake because it puts you into proximate contact with the rattlesnake and puts you at greater risk of getting bit again.
      "So the treatment is basically just shots or an IV bag of antivenom that they give you. Then they do bloodwork to test for coagulation factors because one of the things from rattlesnake venom is it can cause your blood to kind of congeal inside your body and that can cause problems like stroke.
      "So they will give you antivenom and check your blood work until you're cleared to go home. Usually, it's within a day or two,” said Meyers."

    1:45 "... Cows produce cows..." says the self-appointed expert in biology. 😂
    This one cracks me up because I've personally corrected Hovind on this point. He said, "No one has ever seen a cow give birth to anything other than a cow," and I laughed and pointed out that half the time, cows give birth to bulls!
    I get it... A lot of people refer to all cattle as "cows," but it's a silly mistake for someone who claims to have "taught high school science for 15 years" (which he didn't).
    Notice that even though I pointed out this silly mistake, Hovind _still keeps saying it_ -- He never learns from correction.

    According to the Gospel of Mark, Christians are immune to poison.
    "And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well."
    (Mark 16:17-18 NIV)
