I definitely didn't regret starting with Index since I get to know Touma's character and was introduced to Misaka in a much better way than that boring bridge scene where she's surrounded by a bunch of dumbasses. In Index, she a leasts zaps Touma afterwards so it's worth it.
Another advantage to watching the series in order of release(index first order) is the production quality. The franchise has been airing for over 10 years now and the newer releases have significantly better art and animation than the older ones. It might be a bit jarring to watch A certain scientific accelerator (2019) to then jump back to a certain magical index 2 (2010)
I just found index to be way better written than Railgun. Even though I'm really interested in science, Railgun was such a pain to watch through. Especially the first season.
@@Silver_Scepter well, I just really had a hard time relating to Misaka. She's a tsundere pikachu. It was hard for me to really understand her. Touma, however, was way more understandable, and I got way more interested in index vs railgun.
@@raawesome3851 But he is soo weak...if the enemy throws a boulder at him he will die, but they never do that(they became the hand of god and couldn't figure that out..i mean geeez), Touma always wins.His survival is probably the biggest plot armor in anime ever, that and the anime is rushed especially the war in England, and world war 3 was also a mess except for the ending. Railgun on the other hand Misaka got the power, but the conclusion of every battle is very abrupt, the theme shift from "got trouble" to "all ok" hit hard.

its easy just pick any of the two watch orders, railgun first if you want a more linear story telling science and then magic. Or watch index first, its more complicated but you get to see both science and magic

Just finished watching magical index episodes 1-6 but I think I’m gonna switch to the chronological order since I prefer focusing on characters. This video was great help
Railgun is the best start because Railgun S is sooooo much better when you watch it without having its Sisters Arc already spoiled But some context from Index can be good. You can watch the first six episodes of Index before Railgun S and you should be set Railgun > Index episode 1-6 > Railgun S > rest of Index > Accelerator > Index II > Index movie > Railgun T That's basically it
I have to disagree. You're honestly better off starting with Index due to the better world building. Just skip the Index version of the Sisters arc and get into Railgun and Railgun S. Index II comes next and by this point, the broadcast order should work just fine.

@@isukihaki Ngl, my opinions have changed significantly. Release order is definitely the best because of the world building. I can never agree with skipping Index because the bulk of the story is found there. While I agree that the light novel does a better job with Index's story, you have to take people who can't get access to the light novel into account. The anime does a good enough job for Index's story. Not a perfect, but still good enough. I love Railgun's Sisters arc to bits and I think it's among the best arc in all of anime, but without being aware of the ending, I don't think I would rate it as high as it is. The Sisters arc in Index thrives on shock values, while in Railgun, it thrives on dread. You know Misaka hasn't succeded and watching her enjoy herself after a job well done (in her eyes) can be very painful because you know her clones are still suffering. You wouldn't get that dread if you skip Index. My point is, the anime is clearly created to be watched in the release order due to how they are written and the numerous references scattered in the series. Index is a flawed anime, but it's still a necessary part of the experience. It's not like the story is boring like Phantom Blood which prevents people from getting into JoJo's anime. It's an above average anime that is a part of a fantastic franchise.
@@MonkeBrain07 but the thing is not everyone is like interested in touma's pov or index, some may just want to watch railgun cos its focused on misaka, and vice versa. i do get what you are saying tho, the point on watching by release. but personally i mainly watch railgun and then some index episodes. i rewatched index after finishing railgun t since i prefer railgun. it's kinda hard to find an action or magic anime with a main female protag, there are some but railgun just does an amazing job. onto your point on the LN part, i do take that into account but the LN is easily accessible. there are even epub versions of it online for FREE. so it's mainly whether or not people want to read the LN. it was pretty nice to hear your take on this. stay safe

I'd say the best order to get the full experience is as follows: Index season 1, episodes 1-9 (first 2 arcs because index characters make cameos in railgun anime) Railgun season 1 full Railgun season 2 full (railgun season 2 should be whatched before third arc of index season 1 because Sisters arc is basicly the same arc in both animes, but in railgun its done better.) Index season 1 from episode 9 to the end. Accelerator (cause its where it takes place in the story timeline + helps understand accelerators character for latter index arcs) Index season 2 episodes 1-13 Railgun T episodes 1-15 (Watching railgun T before index season 3 gives context to some characters who are poorly explained in index season 3 since it was rushed.) Index season 2 until the end Index movie (Keep in mind that chronologically it happes before the Festival arc.) Index season 3 full railgun T until the end (cause it hasnt finished yet)

@@daveonhammond4507 You will be confused much less then with other watch orders. Mostly because this one is chronological. (There are still some confusing parts but that is to be expected when there are 7 different seasons across 3 different animes.) In this order you are not skipping ahead and if the same arc is in 2 different shows you will watch the better one first. (e.g sisters arc is index season 1 episodes 10-16 and railgun season 2 episodes 2-16, railgun version is longer and explained better and animated better, thats why in the watch order it comes before the index version.)

I’ll go with Railgun first because I can just rewatch Index first and get the same information and understanding of the world, but if I go Index first, I won’t be able to redo my emotions that I’ll feel since Railgun is the more personal and emotional route

3 years ago I had started watching index’s first episode then I just kinda dropped it after that. Fast forward until now I needed a show and started watching Railgun for no reason. After seeing that guy in like episode 4 I felt like I had seen him before. Ignoring it I continued watching the show until I got to ep 17 when I started thinking. “Have I seen this guy?” Then I went to Index and saw the same guy and my mind blew into pieces. Now I’m here thinking thank god I started Railgun instead of index 3 years ago

It all just felt too childish, but recently Ive been seeing a lot of railgun-clips on youtube so decided to start with railgun now and hopefully Ill love it so much that I enjoy index just as much. The Index watch order is better because that’s the order in which they made everything, so even though some stuff happens before other stuff, it’s best to watch it in this order because everything is explained the best in this way by far
Damn I watch Railgun S1 then research about Kamijou Touma and found out what I am watching is not even the main story but have 3 seasons! What a surprise! I watched Railgun first so probably will just continue with Railgun first order.
Great Video! Personally I suggest the Index/Release watch order. It's the intended way to watch with out confusing this plus its great to see quality/animation improvement as you go through out the series. Also Index New Testament anime is more likely than Accelerator Season 2 tbh but i'll take anything Toaru after Railgun T airs

Both watch order is good, I watched the Index watch order first, so I really can't tap with the lore but understanding the series made it better, watching the Railgun watch order will get you with a lot of understanding with how things happened and/or will happen because it's the chronological order Either way, starting with the latter will give you a different way of perspective. Accelerator got me into this ;-;
O wats wachigng railgun 3 until i notice that idk whats Is happening un the anime AND that theres like other 8 seasons so no you weren't the only one who didn't know what order was like
On the hypothetical Accelerator Season 2 segment of the video for the Railgun first order - the final chapter of the manga and by extension the final chapter of the Nectar Arc actually covers some mid Index II content (the Tree Diagram Arc), so in all likelihood, Index II would be better to watch first before the potential Accelerator Season 2 if they choose to adapt the final chapter.
I am just going to watch Railgun the index season by season with the time placement of OVA's and the movies from this included before Accelerator. I'll save timeline for rewatch and my main work
*Edit:* I just confirmed, Railgun T is definitely before Index S3, so yeah, I was right down below about that character. From doing some reading around, it seems to be that Railgun T Episode 18 happens 4 days before Index S3 Episode 6. So definitely watch Railgun T BEFORE Index S3 or you will be very confused like I was. Index S3 was a mess of plot. They did a really bad job of organizing the season, so it really sucks to have Index S3 be the last series you should watch to be in appropriate order. *** SPOILERS BELOW *** Frenda is definitely dead and ITEM is no longer a thing so I am sure Railgun T should come before Index S3.
railgun T's first arc takes place during Index II (daihasei sai arc) and the second arc takes place around Index III's battle royale arc. I still think people should watch railgun T after Index III because of the gunha+touma fight potentially spoiling the ending fight of Index III.
I haven't watched anime in years and didn't know there was more to this story till my girl started talking about it and I also didn't know you kinda had to watch it in a sorta specific order to understand the story better

I started with Index First, and have already seen Accelerator. Im just wondering wheather I should now do Railgun T or Index III first. From the looks of it most of Index takes place after T, and Ive already seen the Index part of daihasei, so Railgun seems like the more logical choice. nah the accelerator anime takes place before his appearance in Index II when he beats up Musijime. The manga is 2 arcs long and the anime covers the first arc as of now. The second arc ends with the scene in Index II where he shows up after the Tree Diagram Remnant fight.
personally the best way for me to watch anime with a lot of parts is by the release date. Magical Index 2008 Scientific Railgun 2009 Scientific Accelerator 2019

Railgun is the best start because Railgun S is sooooo much better when you watch it without having its Sisters Arc already spoiled
But some context from Index can be good. You can watch the first six episodes of Index before Railgun S and you should be set
Railgun > Index episode 1-6 > Railgun S > rest of Index > Accelerator > Index II > Index movie > Railgun T
That's basically it
I have to disagree. You're honestly better off starting with Index due to the better world building. Just skip the Index version of the Sisters arc and get into Railgun and Railgun S. Index II comes next and by this point, the broadcast order should work just fine.

@@isukihaki Ngl, my opinions have changed significantly. Release order is definitely the best because of the world building. I can never agree with skipping Index because the bulk of the story is found there. While I agree that the light novel does a better job with Index's story, you have to take people who can't get access to the light novel into account. The anime does a good enough job for Index's story. Not a perfect, but still good enough. I love Railgun's Sisters arc to bits and I think it's among the best arc in all of anime, but without being aware of the ending, I don't think I would rate it as high as it is. The Sisters arc in Index thrives on shock values, while in Railgun, it thrives on dread. You know Misaka hasn't succeded and watching her enjoy herself after a job well done (in her eyes) can be very painful because you know her clones are still suffering. You wouldn't get that dread if you skip Index. My point is, the anime is clearly created to be watched in the release order due to how they are written and the numerous references scattered in the series. Index is a flawed anime, but it's still a necessary part of the experience. It's not like the story is boring like Phantom Blood which prevents people from getting into JoJo's anime. It's an above average anime that is a part of a fantastic franchise.

but personally i mainly watch railgun and then some index episodes. i rewatched index after finishing railgun t since i prefer railgun. it's kinda hard to find an action or magic anime with a main female protag, there are some but railgun just does an amazing job.
onto your point on the LN part, i do take that into account but the LN is easily accessible. there are even epub versions of it online for FREE. so it's mainly whether or not people want to read the LN.

@@isukihaki I enjoyed index a lot, and the fact that the world is soo big is what got me i trested in the whole franchise. But ik railgun will not be exploring that big world so im having second thoughts about starting it.
I'd say the best order to get the full experience is as follows:
Index season 1, episodes 1-9 (first 2 arcs because index characters make cameos in railgun anime)
Railgun season 1 full
Railgun season 2 full (railgun season 2 should be whatched before third arc of index season 1 because Sisters arc is basicly the same arc in both animes, but in railgun its done better.)
Index season 1 from episode 9 to the end.
Accelerator (cause its where it takes place in the story timeline + helps understand accelerators character for latter index arcs)
Index season 2 episodes 1-13
Railgun T episodes 1-15 (Watching railgun T before index season 3 gives context to some characters who are poorly explained in index season 3 since it was rushed.)
Index season 2 until the end
Index movie (Keep in mind that chronologically it happes before the Festival arc.)
Index season 3 full
railgun T until the end (cause it hasnt finished yet)

@@daveonhammond4507 You will be confused much less then with other watch orders. Mostly because this one is chronological. (There are still some confusing parts but that is to be expected when there are 7 different seasons across 3 different animes.)
In this order you are not skipping ahead and if the same arc is in 2 different shows you will watch the better one first. (e.g sisters arc is index season 1 episodes 10-16 and railgun season 2 episodes 2-16, railgun version is longer and explained better and animated better, thats why in the watch order it comes before the index version.)

I’ll go with Railgun first because I can just rewatch Index first and get the same information and understanding of the world, but if I go Index first, I won’t be able to redo my emotions that I’ll feel since Railgun is the more personal and emotional route

3 years ago I had started watching index’s first episode then I just kinda dropped it after that. Fast forward until now I needed a show and started watching Railgun for no reason. After seeing that guy in like episode 4 I felt like I had seen him before. Ignoring it I continued watching the show until I got to ep 17 when I started thinking. “Have I seen this guy?” Then I went to Index and saw the same guy and my mind blew into pieces. Now I’m here thinking thank god I started Railgun instead of index 3 years ago

Remember starting to watch a certain index a long time ago and never liked the "nun" or whatever that popped up. It all just felt too childish, but recently Ive been seeing a lot of railgun-clips on youtube so decided to start with railgun now and hopefully Ill love it so much that I enjoy index just as much. The characters sure do seem to be more fun in railgun!

The Index watch order is better because that’s the order in which they made everything, so even though some stuff happens before other stuff, it’s best to watch it in this order because everything is explained the best in this way by far

Great Video! Personally I suggest the Index/Release watch order. It's the intended way to watch with out confusing this plus its great to see quality/animation improvement as you go through out the series. Also Index New Testament anime is more likely than Accelerator Season 2 tbh but i'll take anything Toaru after Railgun T airs

Both watch order is good, I watched the Index watch order first, so I really can't tap with the lore but understanding the series made it better, watching the Railgun watch order will get you with a lot of understanding with how things happened and/or will happen because it's the chronological order
Either way, starting with the latter will give you a different way of perspective. Accelerator got me into this ;-;

On the hypothetical Accelerator Season 2 segment of the video for the Railgun first order - the final chapter of the manga and by extension the final chapter of the Nectar Arc actually covers some mid Index II content (the Tree Diagram Arc), so in all likelihood, Index II would be better to watch first before the potential Accelerator Season 2 if they choose to adapt the final chapter.
I am just going to watch Railgun the index season by season with the time placement of OVA's and the movies from this included before Accelerator. I'll save timeline for rewatch and my main work

*Edit:* I just confirmed, Railgun T is definitely before Index S3, so yeah, I was right down below about that character. From doing some reading around, it seems to be that Railgun T Episode 18 happens 4 days before Index S3 Episode 6. So definitely watch Railgun T BEFORE Index S3 or you will be very confused like I was. Index S3 was a mess of plot. They did a really bad job of organizing the season, so it really sucks to have Index S3 be the last series you should watch to be in appropriate order.

Frenda is definitely dead and ITEM is no longer a thing so I am sure Railgun T should come before Index S3.
railgun T's first arc takes place during Index II (daihasei sai arc) and the second arc takes place around Index III's battle royale arc. I still think people should watch railgun T after Index III because of the gunha+touma fight potentially spoiling the ending fight of Index III.

I started with Index First, and have already seen Accelerator. Im just wondering wheather I should now do Railgun T or Index III first. From the looks of it most of Index takes place after T, and Ive already seen the Index part of daihasei, so Railgun seems like the more logical choice. (also the rating for Index III were shit, which is why Ive been putting it off for a while now)

Nope
nah the accelerator anime takes place before his appearance in Index II when he beats up Musijime. The manga is 2 arcs long and the anime covers the first arc as of now. The second arc ends with the scene in Index II where he shows up after the Tree Diagram Remnant fight.
personally the best way for me to watch anime with a lot of parts is by the release date.

Good vid, 2:35 is why your here everyone Railgun first then Index, if you already watched index it doesn't really matter cuz the timelines are congruent only the perspective and place in world are different. It boils down too science or magic.
