  • How to do the pinch seam mod on a Jeep Renegade.
    This is recommended to fit tires larger than 29", or to run 1.5" spacers and larger.
    Tools and Supplies
    10mm Socket (if you can find it)
    Phillips Head Screwdriver
    Trim removal tool (only 1 clip)
    Angle Grinder
    Sledge hammer
    Self Etching Primer
    Waterproof Silicone
    (Optional Items)
    Heat Gun
    Self Tapping Screws
    Utility Knife

    I know this is old, but they actually make a product called "seam sealer" it's designed for covering pinch weld seams. Available at auto body repair suppliers.
    I probably would have welded that though, and then cover with seam sealer.

    What size can you go without having to do the pinch weld?

      Depends on which trim you have, all trims should be able to fit 225/65/17, upland/TH should be able to fit 235/65/17 with very light rubbing. If you install wheel spacers bigger than 1”, just about all tires will rub.

      @@RenegadeExpedition I I have a Trailhawk, was looking at some of the lifts and seen about the pinch weld mod. Not something I really want to do. Was thinking of going with a 2" and bigger tires.

      DMBrown Photography the amount lift isn’t the problem. It’s about clearing the spring perch on the strut. Anything bigger than a 29” tire will hit it. The only thing you can do is get wheel spacers or run a bigger offset, but that’s what will cause the need for a pinch seam mod.
