The $80 Laptop - From JUNK to Monster
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 5 июл 2024
- I just want to show how from junk i made one pretty cool laptop. I done this project because i want to give a new life and big boost on this old laptop, also i want to show you that is possible from junk to make something very useful and Make Less E-Waste.
Also, building this laptop is coincidence, all i got on company sell/auction, one company near me is selling their old computers, and all this basically was leftover, that's the reason why i got is cheaper.
Making this laptop, including mods and upgrades cost about $80 ( $30 Dell, 11$ Sony with i7 and RAM, 22$ SSD on sale and about $10 for the carbon skin. Btw, the battery start working, keeps 10 -15 minutes :D.
Sorry because this video is long, i tried to make it shorter as possible. Also, all fixes that i used about Mac are Universal and i tried to make all more simplified.
I done this project for personal use only, Not for sale Or any Distribution, now or in the future.
Upgrades:
From Intel Celeron B815 1.6GHz - 2 cores, 2 threads
To Intel i7 2670 QM 2.2 GHz + Turbo 3.1 GHz - 4 cores, 8 threads
RAM to 8GB and 120GB SSD Kingston A400.

Do you think a modern lowrange HP without thunderbolt can utilize it?
My advice is that you swap to a 3rd-Gen Intel Core i7. Ivy Bridge had a quantum leap over Sandy Bridge on iGPU. Intel’s HD4000 are far more livable.
Also, if you’re picking 45W parts, I suggest you change the 65W adapter for a 90W one. Otherwise at full load, the power brick will be too weak to provide energy and, despite being plugged, you will drain your battery.
I'm not sure that this model will run 3th gen, but as charger i have 90w, 65w will not be enough
Cat and Andrew Most Sandy Bridge laptops with a PGA Socket are compatible with Ivy Bridge. But first, you must update the BIOS via DELL Command Update.
I'll second this. Its definitely worth an attempt. Ivy Bridge i7s are really cheap so its not much of a gamble.
Not sure about laptops but I can confirm this works on optiplexs
i have a Lenova g580. Installed a Intel core i7 2760qm. What ivy bridge will work 100% i am interested.
As a tech with 20 plus year of experience I have to say bravo. I have never seen a video as detailed as this on a mod. Keep up the good work.
Very informative! Thanks for the video! I've been looking to build a laptop and this was the route I was looking to go. I won't be playing games, just something to throw Kali on and play around. Thanks again for the video!

Thank you bro and thank you for subscribing.
If you want clean install then you need access to macOS but that doesn't mean actual Mac. You can download and install macOS in virtual machine in Windows and there you can create Boot USB installer.
( this is my old guide about creating Boot USB ruclips.net/video/xJHlN1C5pPw/видео.html )
You need access in macOS because almost all tools are available for macOS only

Andrew: we will use *70%* of alcohol.

I don't understand. How did the BIOS recognize the i7 when the website said only up to i5 was supported? Is the chipset allow the i7 because it's the same socket??
Can be a bit pot luck.
But what is officially supported and what actually works is often different.
If you look up what CPU's the chipset on your motherboard supports, theres a good chance of said CPU's working even if not officially supported by your motherboard's manufacturer...
@Random Ryan Often for things like this, it just means said CPU hasn't been tested with the board. The manufacturer won't list it as compatible unless tested, but its rare to actually block untested CPUs that are compatible...
@@6robfoot tell us the brand so we can avoid

Wont these upgraded laptops have big overheating issues
No they will probably have less of a heating issue, because it will be harder for a normal user to max out the capabilities of this machine. Also, an SSD does not create heat like a normal hard drive would, so that in it self removed a small percentage of heat in side that old computer's set up.
