The 2006 and 2007 Mac Minis were the last Mac Minis to have a cpu that wasn't soldered to the motherboard and people have been upgrading the cpu since they came out. Good luck doing this upgrade on any Mac Mini that came out in 2009 or later.
I would buy one of these for $20 without hesitation. Older Mac Os Tiger is basically a rock solid BSD distribution on a PowerPC architecture. How awesome.
Thank you so much for this wonderful video. I found one if these Mac mini's in the trash and was able to upgrade it to a Core2 Duo with 4gb of Ram for next to nothing, which is just what I needed to help with cpu and memory hungry Logic Pro.

did this to my 2007 yesterday, found a ssd for 20bucks brand new. upgraded ram to 2.5 gigs just enough to run 10.8 smooth. She's running very smooth now, and boots so fast. May install win 10 but so far all the software online i want supports 10.7.5 so i think i'm good.
I did the same thing with a Mac Pro 1,1 I got for about 100 bucks. By the time I was done it had running Yosemite on dual quad xeons, 32gb of ram, 4x1TB hard drives dual video cards running 2 24" monitors and 1 40" monitor. All total I have about 500 in it. Other than cranking out insane amounts of heat its very usable.
The other solution for older machines and wifi is upgrading the wifi card to one that was in a Mac from the year the OS version you're using was released.
I'm impressed to see all of this upgreadability. I had not so time ago a laptop from this era and I had to dessist to upgrade it. It had a 32-bit Core Duo running at 1.73 GHz, but due to socket limitations, it was impossible to upgrade to a 64-bit Core 2 Duo. Also I had to stick with 2 GB of RAM. Very good information. I have the same Mac Mini, used it many years as Media Center. Later then used Bootcamp, put a SSD inside and it is still running Windows 10 reasonably well. Biggest drawback ist the 2GB RAM limitation, so I might try your suggestion with the CPU change if I can get hold of one. That little machine is 14 years old now and still usable. I did the same with an 27 inch iMac which I got cheap on Ebay. It's my wife's favourite PC because of the display. I've been thinking of a project that fits in the same form factor and has a battery backup that continues to charge during a blackout. You know how the phone lines have power running through them. You could easily build a USB charger that isn't more than three or four times faster than basic charging. But could charge multiple devices and run a phone or raspberry pie running your internet. And a phone is probably more powerful then the Mac mini, if you're willing to spend more money then you spent.
The reason the power works during the power outage is because the phone companies have their own generators. And you'll need a battery bank with pass-through charging, that means when the battery is 100% charged the power skips the battery and goes directly to the devices plugged into the battery. This prevents wear and tear.

Solid state drive drive?
@@Zackhasacat Yes - I did this to two old iMacs (2007 I think) and it makes a HUGE difference. Have a third I need to get scheduled. Boot up in under 9 seconds and apps launch close to instantly. Now I need to see if I can get them on a newer OS with a chip upgrade so as banking and many other sites no longer support older OS.
Great video. I just picked up one of these for $4 ( Though I need a power supply) Looking forward to those upgrades.
I have the original powerpc version, there is nothing I can do with it
doorstop?
Yes, I did this years ago the exact same upgrade, BUT now limited by the SOFTWARE thanks to OS X 10.6.8, running old Firefox, Safari , Flash. If put off by GMA950 - notice the next series with 64-bit CPUs STILL HAD GMA950.
Hey, look, USB ports.
I just got imac 2008 about week ago it had OS X El Capitan pre installed for less then $250 here in Canada, I best mac i ever had so far. I install Unsupported Mojave on it. it works great . I am glad we can do this because apple charges away to much for newer macs. I wonder how apple thinks about this.
LOL, your "firmware" is auto captioned as 'film noir" by RUclips.
The thing i'm thinking
