I've spent almost 20 years trying to find this show/clip, was convinced that I had just made it up in my mind! No one I've talked to ever knew what I was talking about, but I remembered this so vividly from seeing it as a 3 year old, lol. Gave me nightmares for years, glad to have found it now
@@mesicek7 No, I first found out about that movie in school when our teacher (who focused mainly on Greek and Roman history and mythology along with an assortment of other topics) showed it to the class.

This is the one episode that I remember clearly even to this day. It scared the hell out of me but it did get me interested in Greek mythology. Mad props to Frank Welker and the CGI animation for making Medusa downright terrifying. I even had nightmares with that monster chasing me down hallways like in the episode.
No sh!t man, I had the same nightmares. That monsters voice is just terrifying. Not to mention that i hate snakes. The only thing i forgot about it was the episodes title. Everything else is so clear to me.
Ok I love Frank Welker and he's amazingly talented. But I'm watching this shit 20 years later and it's still scary as fuck. Maybe because it brings back memories, but I think even as an adult, his performance is very effective.
This episode was my introduction to Medusa of Greek mythology. I have been looking for this for years. No wonder I never found it. I was searching the wrong shows for it.
Man, here I am as an adult and I still find that Medusa creepy and unsettling as hell. I remember when I was 6 years old, that thing gave me legit nightmares.
Well those animation were made in 1996, IT WERE EXTREMELY DIFFICULT for the time to achieved those virtual animations and impresses me how detailed they are!!!
@@rsalceda it’s not a matter of being “difficult” to produce better animation. Just look at the animation of the first Toy Story film, which was released in 1995. At the end of the day it depends all on the budget the producers had to make these scenes.
This show was pretty intense for something that was meant for kids. I remember seeing quite a lot of death scenes In It. Which Is probably why I loved It so much.
Yeah it was a show that had real stakes in every episode. Nowadays most cartoons are written by wannabe drama writers that are also too scared to say mean words
This was the heart of nightmares to me as a kid. I grew up in an apartment block with no elevator and no motion sensor lights. I couldn't help but imagine running into Medusa on my way down in the dark.
This scene was so memorable and confusing like scary wise. I still remember it to this day. And also the CGI adds up to the scariness because not many cartoons were done in CGI.
Damn the virtual animators of Jonny Quest were 10 years ahead it looks very detailed for the time 1996!!! I remember an episode of Jonny Quest getting attacked by town people just like Resident Evil 4!!!
I would give Surd a piece of my mind if he wasn’t in the form of that Gorgan. Yes, it’s Jeremiah Surd. I once watched this episode a long time ago. At least Jonny backfired on Surd’s plan.
I remember watching this episode and being so disappointed it was Surd yet again, especially when later episodes featured actual supernatural creatures. Why couldn't they just have it actually be the monster and not just a convenient Questworld alias? Then again, that it was a "modern" figure would explain the Search Snakes.
This was my first true fear. The image of the medusa never left me although my mind tweaked her appearance a bit. I even subconsciously tied it to Baba Roga or Baba Yaga and that's the image I still see when someone mentions her.
that freaking medusa really scares me and now I realized that kinda look like a reference to clash of the titans! take note: medusa was voiced by frank welker known as megatron, fred and scooby doo
Look at all that CGI! That was why I nicknamed this show "Jonny's Virtual Quest", because of all the fancy CGI animation used for the Questworld VR segments.
OK, now this is weird. I remember a Johnny Quest clip from my young childhood (I never watched the show regularly but remember snatches of it) that featured Medusa turning a guy into stone despite warnings from Johnny, but in my memories it's hand-animated like the cartoon, Medusa had a completely different colour scheme and a visible snake tongue as her eyes glowed, and the stone guy shattered rather than fell down. That memory has stayed with me quite clearly because it was so scary. Does anyone know whether something similar to this clip was shown in the hand-animated cartoon and I'm remembering that, or did my young brain conflate this with the cartoon style and I've spent the past 25+ years with a very clear but completely fake memory?
I really love this episode, don't look at her eyes, you'll turn to stone, a bit late for that, love that their statues were put to some use as supporting the pillars, wonder what they would be thinking if they could think
What's interesting is that there is specifically a structure called a caryatid, which are columns made in the same of female bodies. And of course, there are atlases (from Atlas holding up the world). So the people who went into making this episode did do their research and made an inspired idea to link the two.
Only old people remember the details. Jonny quest introduced the matrix to the wackoski brothers. Bally sagoos music video "dil cheez" was the inspiration to matrix's action sequences.
Medusa is a gorgon. She should have a snake body. It’s as if they ran out of time to animate it and just left her floating. Wiggly snakes are hard to animate but still...
They should make a CGI Reboot of Jonny Quest! Maybe Jeff Bennett should voice over Race Bannon,Maurice La Marche as Dr.Benton Quest,Ben Savage as Jonny,Will Friedel as Hadji & Arianna Grande as Jessie!
This was one hell of a series starter, too bad the other episodes fell flat compared to this bomb and i lost interest in the show pretty quickly, but this one episode was memorable and i still look at it with awe after 20+ years
