Therefore under severe driving conditions (short and cold runs) engine oil should be changed sooner. Anyway, dark oil does not mean it is bad, it is formulated to handle soot.
Hi Anthony, I've "reduced" the EGR on my 1hdfte and the engine oil stays clean as a whistle for the full 5000kms between oil changes. Another great video mate, even though I don't have a prado I still watch and enjoy your content.
I recently bought a 1hdfte 100 series and done 4000kms since service (using Penrite oil) and was shocked by how clean the oil was, even worried there wasent any oil because of how clear the oil was on the dipstick ahah. Engine must be really good internally or maybe previous owner blanked/reduced egr. Either or, really surprised how clean the oil was for a diesel
@@danielpod5977I reckon the previous owner probably blanked it. You can check by taking off the EGR pipe which sits behind the crossover pipe, and looking at the exhaust manifold. Likely has a blank plate in there, which is good!
Some engine oils can be visibly less or more black also depending on the additive package and base oil type the contaminant quantity maybe the same with certain oils holding smaller particles in suspension better therefore making the oil appear cleaner to the eye a friend of mine is a petro chemist manufactures his own oil brand that has these properties in spades with longer change intervals also triggered by oil tests JA
Diesel Podcast YT channel had an article (or mention) about filtering EGR gases. New aftermarket add on. Apparently it’s designed to be low maintenance. I think it’s only one model ATM for a V8 diesel US truck. Was very interesting.
Thanks Anthony! Curiosity, would the exhaust generated from the combustion stroke be negligible in affecting oil and injector nozzles or does it have an impact? Understand from your channel (EGR playlist) and various videos that the exhaust from the EGR in the compression stroke is naturally worst so assume it is minimal impact of the passing through rings in combustion stroke in comparison then? Thanks for the videoes👏
I have a d22 Navara (240k km, still in good nick) which has had the EGR blocked for a long time. The oil still goes black quickly. Should I do an engine flush, or is that a bad idea on a high mileage engine?
nah mate, iam a heavy duty fitter/diesel mechanic, listen to Anthony and either turn off your egr via a tuner or place a blanking plate. No oil will keep your intake clean.

My FTE is the same brother. My EGR is also ‘reduced’

Some valuable information there, thank you very much. My 2006 3l CRD Rodeo will be thankful soon also 👍

Oil stays pretty clean, i've got a 7mm egr 😆

Sounds like catch cans are like fishing lures, designed to catch fishermen 😂

5 k oil changes. Max.
Wish my 1kzte was stay clean
Do GLT(Penzoil or Shell Helix Ultra)base oils help in any way to reduce EGR carbonization? Greetings from Brazil
