This song was released in May of 2002. Johnny Cash was 70 years of age. His beloved wife, June Carter Cash, died one year after the release of this song, and John, shattered by her passing, went to meet her four months later.

@@jollykone2258 My bad. You're right. The pale horse carries death, not the white horse (I was going for death). It's been a while since I last read this passage. Apparently, there is some theological dispute over whether the white horse carries Jesus Christ or the Anti-Christ, and some say it's the Holy Ghost. You're clearly in the Anti-Christ camp of translations.

The Antichrist will come riding a donkey(a sign of modesty) to mimic Jesus earthly body riding into Jerusalem as to show he is for the common people. Christ will return riding a white horse with a double edged sword in his mouth(the word of God) to vanquish the Antichrist and armies of the world gathered to kill the last of the true believers. But You're correct you just needed a little clarification, God bless friend!

The Album this song is from was indeed his last. He had lost his beloved wife June Carter a few years prior and his health wasn’t good. The entire album is about confronting death. Top producers were lining up to work with him and the album is very stripped down instrumentally but arranged so perfectly that a single piano or organ note creates beautifully rich drama in the songs. He does a lot of covers of some classics, including Danny Boy and Bridge Over Troubled Waters. But the one that cuts deep to listen to is the cover of the Nine Inch Nails song “Hurt.” It’s a perfect metaphor for his life, which included addiction, and the video is quite moving. The entire album is a masterpiece and a fitting final bow in an illustrious career and life, flaws and all.

Jay reacted to "Hurt" about a year ago. I believe that was before Amber was on the channel so it might still be a good one for her to react to (assuming he didn't play it for her afterward or she didn't watch his reaction videos).

Your exactly right about the wisdom in his voice it's so expressive even his guitar playing is unique to him, Singing in Vietnam talking blues and Drive on are songs that I've never heard anyone react to. During the Vietnam war Johnny and June did a lot of USO shows over there these songs are about that time. Cash will always have my respect being a former service member, interesting fact Johnny Cash was the first westerner to know Stalin died as he decoded the Russian communications when he was in the Air Force.

I love the last spoken words about death and hell is coming with me.
It reminds me of an important point in the movie called Tombstone 1993 where Wyatt Earp let's it known he's out for revenge and he has no fear.

I’m 28 and I too grew up with Johnny Cash from those lullabies. My late aunt used to sing to me You Are my Sunshine by JC. Since then I’ve been a big Cash guy. He’s my all time favorite solo artist. Just recently I picked up a few of his collections in cd form at a local record shop. So I’ll recommend some hidden gems that I found for the first time on those cds. Definitely the Wanderer feat U2 with Johnny Cash. If I were a Carpenter, Sunday Morning coming Down & Thirteen all great underrated songs by the man in Black

I love the Biblical imagery and allusions in this song and Johnny's incredible delivery. Please consider reacting to Josh Turner's "Long Black Train", "Will You Go With Me", and "Your Man" (which was written by Chris Stapleton), Colin Ray's "Love, Me", Kings of Leon "Molly's Chambers", The Cat Empire "Sly", Dave Matthews Band "Where Are You Going", "Ants Marching", "What Would You Say", "Crush", and "Crash into Me", Jack Johnson "Sitting, Waiting, Wishing", "Bubble Toes", "Banana Pancakes", and "Flake", Keith Green "Oh Lord, You're Beautiful", For King and Country "Little Drummer Boy" and "The Proof of Your Love", and Rich Mullins "Hold Me, Jesus" and "Sometimes by Steps".

Linda Ronstadt put out an entire album of lullabies and “baby friendly” adaptations of other classic sounds. It’s called “Dedicated to the One I Love” and she released it when she adopted her two children in the 90’s. You might wanna check it out for Baby Luca. You have so much to explore in Linda’s catalogue. I miss seeing her on your channel😢
