The song was released posthumously in 2006. From song facts ”The star-studded music video was directed by Tony Kaye ("Runaway Train," "Dani California"), but the idea came from Justin Timberlake. The concept came to him while he was listening to Cash's album with producer Rick Rubin while on a break in the recording studio. When they got to this track, Timberlake told Rubin - who also produced American V - the video should feature celebrities wearing Cash's signature black as a tribute to the late singer. Nearly 40 stars appear in the black-and-white clip, including Timberlake, Iggy Pop, Kanye West, Bono, Chris Martin of Coldplay, Chili Peppers Anthony Kiedis and Flea, Adam Levine, Keith Richards, Sheryl Crow, Graham Nash, Mick Jones, and Johnny Depp, among others.”
I knew this was a tribute to Cash, but didn't know all the details. Thank for sharing!
I'm not trying to be judgmental but some of these people in this song better take heed from what I know about them.
@@markmeister2444 yep , you’ve just been judgmental -anything you want to confess or are you whiter than white? 😅
@@shoelessmoron - Lots of great songs hundreds of years old from the backwoods of Appalachia. Man of Constant Sorrow is another one. Could you please explain what an OG is?
Pardon my spelling. Others in the video I recognized are: Dennis Hopper, Jay Z, Woody Harrelson, The Dixie Chicks, Patti Smith, Lisa Marie Presley, Kid Rock, Kris Kristofferson, Chris Rock, Billy Gibbons, Travis Barker and Brian Wilson.
Johnny Cash transcended musical genres. He was loved and respected by everyone.
The man in black....
R.I.P. John
He didn't write this about anyone it's an old work song from the forties
You should also hear him, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings and Kris Kristofferson sing The Highway man. And his songs Ghostriders in the sky, ring of fire
I was actually thinking of telling them about The Highwaymen, great supergroup.
@@carriechilders4416 great minds! Lol
The songs "Ghost Riders In The Sky" and "The Highwayman" are both covers. They made them, their own, though.
Ring of Fire is great
I love the song "The Highway Man" too.
Oh Johnny Cash has so many songs
Him and his wife June Carter did a fun song called Jackson you both will enjoy that!!!
And you have to do a boy named Sue !!!please
I was thinking more of the "ring of fire" or "I walk the line" but I like your suggestions better !!!
Boy Named Sue is AWESOME!!!
@@giarogers I love I walk the line and ring of fire lol so I'd say at least 4 more 😅
@@cherylwaite3255 there are so many ... 🤣❤✌
Jackson is an awesome song!
The actors and musicians in this video are honoring a legend by appearing in this video that was made after his death.
on the contrary, this song is a message to the ones married to the world and enemies of God I.e the celebrities in this video
They seem like they're honoring themselves (and using Johnny's song to do it).
@@influentialnobody8960 true, he's saying theyre long tongues liars from the grave
The song was one of Johnny’s last songs before he died. The video was made after his death and these celebrities were paying homage to the great man. That is why Owen Wilson was dressed in black and throwing flowers off the cliff.
You will love When the man comes around by Johnny Cash.
This 💯 times 👆
Oh, yes! You must listen to When the Man Comes Around. "....the wind is in the thorn trees..."
My favorite by Johnny
This song is an old gospel song. Mostly known as “Run On” or “Sermon”. It was first recorded by Heavenly Gospel Singers in 1937, though many, many artists have covered it in their own ways and genres. Johnny Cash is just one of the greats that have covered it.
Want to hear a powerful cover? Check out The Blind Boys Of Alabama. They are 5 blind black men (from my home state) that have a massive song library of gospel songs. But the way they sing them will put chills on ya.
Great reaction as always guys!
Bama chick here! OMG Blind Boys of Alabama are awesome with a capital A! They sing my favorite versions of "Little Drummer Boy" and "Amazing Grace". Check them out! (Roll Tide!)
The video was made after he passed with a lot of artists paying tribute
If you’re going to do Johnny Cash you have to do “A boy named Sue” and “Ring of Fire”
Ring of Fire, Folsom Prison
Big Iron.
Cocaine blues
I love JC but those are the worst recommendations
No man they have to do them all, their all pretty good
If you gonna do another Johnny Cash you should do "THE MAN IN BLACK"
^^Fact
THIS. LIVE from Folsom Prison.
Yes
Then Sunday Morning Coming Down
YES!
absolutely
Each of those stars were told they had 5 to 10 seconds to do whatever they wanted while hearing the song. Epic video!
Cash wasn't trying to say that the people in this video got it coming from God. They all knew and liked Johnny and agreed to appear in the video. I think Johnny might have passed before this video was even made.
So glad that you reacted to this song, its one of my personal favorites. This songs lyrics are about Gods judgement, but in the video imagery there are hints of redemption which was also a big theme in Johnny Cash's music. At 4:11 line written on the wall reads "Sinners make the best saints" and every celebrity that appeared in this video has at some point struggled with addiction or infidelity or some other form of sin. Almost all of them managed to overcome it and became stronger people because of the experience.
His song “man in black” is powerful and relevant today.
Listen to “I’m going to Jackson “ and “Folsom prison blues” and also listen to Merle Haggard
Johnny Cash has so many. I might recommend watching the movie Walk the Line about his early days. It was very well done.
Walk the line is 80 per cent bullcrap 20 percent truth
Johnny was a powerful artist. He currently hold places in The rock hall of fame, Country Hall of Fame, Gospel Hall of fame.
Johnny Cash is the first musician I have ever heard, my dad owned ONE tape, Johnny Cash at Folsom Prison and to this day I still know the lyrics to every song on it. I loved his tv show in the 70s, and he is still my favorite artist of all time
You NEED to listen to Man In Black. It really speaks of his social conscience
Johnny Cash was in The Highwayman with Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson and Kris Kristopherson. The song they recorded was called The Highway men. It’s about reincarnation. Fantastic song.
The whole of the American Recordings show an artist who knows that his life is drawing to a close. That Columbia Records cut him loose was a travesty after all he had done for them. However, working with Rick Rubin allowed Johnny to open his heart. Anyone who can cover Nine Inch Nails and Depeche Mode and make those songs his own shows the majesty of the man. RIP The Man In Black.
Yessss!! The GOAT, JC!!!!!
Those of us who fail to realize that we're 'hangin' ourselves doin' the evil we love so much, "God's gonna cut you down", and save you by His Grace, when you cry out,
God help me.
Johnny Cash is in the Country Music, Rock and Roll, and Gospel Halls of Fame. That is a rare honor.
you've gotta do a reacton to Johnny cash - when the man comes around!
Johnnys lyrics are always impeccable. He’s not a polished artist. He’s rough around the edges. Real. Honest to the point of blunt. These artists in the video represented fame, elites, the rich. The message means, you can lie to get what you want in life, but sooner or later god will catch up to you.
Here I am again loving Rob Squad Reactions. Lots of Love from Brazil.
I think all the ‘stars’ who appeared symbolize that the torch of artistic/spiritual leadership has been passed to them. They’re honoring the recently passed Cash by wearing his color… they could be looked at having both the power to lead positively or negatively with their celebrity and artistry.
There’s fire and then there’s fire -and this is that. When Johnny Cash started doing these iconic American songs he left us (the world) a great gift.
I love the relationship between the two of you!
You are feeling the HOLY SPIRIT SPEAK TO YOUR HEART!
BLESS YOU BOTH!!
As for Johnny Cash “The Man Comes Around” is the most bone-chilling songs he has.
Johnny Cash had a huge influence on so many singers and songwriters. He is definitely worth a deep dive into more of his music. I highly recommend his cover of Alice in Chains song Hurt. The imagery in Ghostriders in the Sky is amazing and A Boy Named Sue is legendary. He's the man!
J reacted to Hurt (Nine Inch Nails tho). You should check it out if its still up. It may have gotten taken down.
@@ms.dirtybird7779 Oops!
Johnny Cash the only person in the Country, Rock n Roll and Song Writers Hall of Fame. True legend. I highly recommend watching the movie Walk The Line
Holy cow.
I saw your first video.
I got a copy of it saved?
Johnny Cash was incredible and June Carter and the Carter family.
His last album was a dark after June died
That is a very powerful song. The amount of different artists just shows you the respect that Johnny Cash deserves. He is the icon.
Great choice Johnny Cash the man in Black a lot of life experience in all his songs a lot of soul. Speaking of a lot of soul you need to listen to Edgar and Johnny Winters version of tobacco road live from 1970 you're going to get blues jazz soul rock and roll and a little funk
I was just coming here to suggest "Man in Black"
Try some early Johnny Cash, Ring of Fire, Folsom Prison Blues, Walk the Line etc.
Yes.
Ohhhhhhh man, I can't flippin' wait!
I stopped waiting to see if I enjoyed the video. I just click "like" as soon as it loads😍❤
Johnny Cash is and always will be the man!! I was so sad when he passed. What an amazing and talented man he was ❤️
I would strongly recommend that you listen to Johnny Cash's the man in Black as well as Folsom prison blues they both say a whole lot about what Johnny Cash believed.
Johnny Cash is in a league by himself! I've never seen this video before. I would recommend "Ring of Fire" Good reaction! I like the t-shirt idea! ROCK ON!! Jeff
The Man In Black! My wife had a huge crush on him when she was younger. He’s a boss and this is a great tune.
It's my first time too - a good cool song - Johnny Cash is good music all around - thanks you reacting to this one
What makes these lyrics so profound, especially today, is that evil isn't "going to be" exposed, but is being exposed at this very moment in time. Some of these celebs are white hats, some are black hats. Some have even changed their tune since this songs release. I wonder if Cash knew. Were these lyrics prophetic? Interesting indeed.
Yes, he DID! As well as 'When The Man Comes Around."
You're unhinged and this song is easily 100 years old. Today is no different than yesterday or yesteryear there have and always will be evil. It's no more or less exposed than any other time. Black hat / white hat? Nope just human, Nothing to do with this song, Johnny Cash or any of the at least 5000 deities currently worshiped. Just good old human nature.
@@anthonyv6962 ....How amusing! ^_^
@@anthonyv6962 You need to dig a little deeper!
Should try one of John Cashs fun songs like oh I don't know... "A boy named Sue"😁
I love the idea of the shirts !! Always look forward to the videos and you make me smile 😊
That song I never heard before until today thank you very much for playing it because it was near the end of his life if I'm hearing his voice is not as clear as it was when he first started singing and Johnny also and his older years with very close to God in his life him and June his wife and he loved her very much
Do The Man in Black from Folsom Prison. That song in that setting says it all.
I have all of Johnny's albums dating back to the old Sun records days. I think his later years were by far the best as his last 3 albums are the best of his entire career. I think as with a lot of performers and people in general life gives us a different way, a more powerful way to send messages. Johnny was more of a story teller, a balladeer than a singer which makes his songs have more of a meaning, a purpose that any generation can relate to.
The song is a traditional song from 1800s, if I understand correctly. Johnny Cash nailed it, as he usually does. I didn't realize the video was made after his death. You are right about how deep it was. It is beautiful.
My niece actually recommended me to you guys and I see why. You guys have a great vibe and genuine reaction.
Boy named Sue. Folsom Prison Blues. Ring of Fire. I Walk the Line.
CASH ❤️❤️
Another great one from Cash that tells a story, "I Hung My Head." One of my favorites from him. Sad song, but great song.
The woman shown in the video before Kid Rock is Lisa Marie Presley, daughter of Elvis. After watching a few more Elvis videos, you should watch hers. You will notice many similarities in the two- movements, facial expressions, etc. When it was pointed out to her, she was shocked, not even realizing how many mannerisms she inherited from her father.

Johnny Cash was pretty straight forward towards the end of his life, and sang many songs about Jesus earlier on as well. Not just wanting people to be “spiritual“ or the more “positive“, he was telling people to call on the name of Jesus and turn from their sins. Period, end of story. In other words this song doesn’t deal with whether somebody likes that or not, because that really doesn’t matter, it is simply the truth. Like Jesus said “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No man comes to the father except by me.“ we are not the product of random accidents over billions of years. That makes no sense, there is no science to back it, it is a farce used to stiff arm the God who made us. It is a fairytale to believe that random Stardust, that nobody knows where it came from, shook around For nobody knows how long, was impacted by energy that nobody knows where it came from and then over some amount of years, that nobody knows how many, gradually became fish and hummingbirds and lions and elephants and people and sex and ice cream parlors and galaxies etc. etc. That is a wild and bizarre fantasy that has been taught in schools for so long that nobody even questions the absolute impossibility of it.Everything in the universe was obviously designed which requires the ultimate designer, God. And I agree with Johnny that that is the true and living God of the Bible. Thanks for your review.
Nice reaction, Love to see your reaction to his song "Ragged Old Flag". I'm a Canadian and this song shows me how much pride he had in your country. I'm surprised no politician has ever used it as a campaign song.
That shows how many celebrities wanted to show their respect for Johnny Cash and help us remember that the end comes for us all. People get ready...
Gob smackingly amazing song. Boy Named Sue please
Love this song. It applies to everyone the Bible says---for all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.
I'm all about positive vibes and would definitely buy your merch 💗💗
Johnny Cash is one America's poets. He lived life hard and sing about it. Please do Hurt again I Walked The Line. You'll understand so much more about him and the demons that he fought daily and his love for his wife June Carter Cash.
Do his song called a boy named Sue!
Keep an eye out - I sent you several ideas for Female Friday and why they or the song stands out
HAD to.come say I love this song. I'll be back to watch after supper. he made damn good music at the end..
There are so many Cash songs from A boy named Sue,Ring of fire, One peice at a time. His gospel songs to his covers of Hurt, Rusty cage. Definitely worthy of checking out. Atrue icon.
Check out Joan Jett hate myself for loving you

The best in my opinion, may he rest in peace. Jamming with Daryl "dimebag" Paul.
Johnny cash's legacy will last for ages. Thank you Johnny for the music and the memories, R.I.P.
That was such a nice review. I love this RUclips channel.
If you do any more Johnny Cash reviews his songs from his younger age we're the best. His number one most popular and famous and best song is called, A Boy Named Sue. He had many popular hits and his other more famous songs are, Folsom Prison Blues, I Walk The Line, and Ring Of Fire.
One Johnny Cash song you definitely need the lyrics for is "I've Been Everywhere." You'll thank me later: ruclips.net/video/ov4epAJRPMw/видео.html
Just wanted to say that I love the merch idea, Amber!
I'm glad y'all did this one. I was raised on bluegrass and gospel and country. I've never heard this one. Thank you.
Love your channel and always look forward to new reactions. Johnny Cash is a true story teller spanning generations. I suggest reacting to " When the Man comes around" May God bless you and Your Family.
powerful........the Man in Black knew his time was comin'........
Look up Johnny Cash, he turned the water into wine at San Quentin live
It's a hyme that's even more powerful and full of the spirit.
This shows the immense influence and respect that Johnny had on musicians of all genres. Johnny lived not far from me and we'd see him in town and talk to him occasionally. Please react to his song "Rusty Cage".
Mind blown!! I'm gonna watch this video with my hubby
Johnny Cash crosses over so many types of music and personalities. He is respected by people from all walks of life. I think this video shows just how powerful he was as an influencer he really was. I don't think there is a person who has heard his music doesn't have a least one song that they love from him. He was a giant in music. CHECK OUT: "the man comes around" or "wanted Man" he has so many
A beautiful tribute to Johnny. Most of the artists in the video attended his service.
Thats truth right down! Love the tee-shirt Amber.
Sorry right there. Lol
Thanks for playing this. I never heard it either
Love Amber’s idea for the t-shirt. 😊
When I was about 4 my mom got me a record of his greatest hits from the 50's-60's. I use to go to sleep to his music. I remember when I was 4 1/2 I got my tonsils out my mom took me home from the hospital and I fell asleep after she put on his record. I've always loved him especially the song Ring Of Fire.
In 2000 they released a3 disc boxed set of Johnny's songs, categorized by 3 of his favorite topics, Love, God, Murder. It's worth a listen.
When Johnny Cash released the album “Cash” in 1994 he gained a whole new generation of followers.
I LOVE your merch idea!
always loved the photography in this vid
Amazing collection of artist showing respect to the Man in Black.
For me some real good old Johnny Cash would be Ring of Fire, Walk the Line, Folsom Prison Blues, Boy Named Sue, Jackson etc... thanks for this reaction, I enjoyed it.
“Make someone smile today” is awesome!
Count me in when it comes out!
Great idea on the shirts!!!
My hair stood up at, "He said, John, go and do my will. Tell the...."
I grew up in Nashville and Hendersonville Tennessee. Hendersonville is where Johnny lived. He was the best. A legend. I remember the day he died.
Love the merch idea! Look into whether or not it may be cost prohibitive to have verbiage on both the front and back though. I have a heat press and make shirts (not to sell) so this was the first thing I thought of when you said front/back. Love the sayings! ♥️😁
My favorite Johnny Cash songs are When The Man Comes Around and I Hung My Head. Both also deal with death.
Watch Johnny singing “ The Mercy Seat”-- now THAT will blow your senses
Just Love CASH, have listened to him all my life, I'm 68 years old. Favorite song 🎵 0f all time HURT
