Its a step in the right direction by Ubisoft and we all appreciate Mirage for what it is, rn am havin a blast Parkouring though the streets of bagdad and like how it not always takes ages to get from point A to point B like previous RPG entries and not to mention Great vid as always.

    I really miss the animus effects on characters, like the white glow on the enemies in AC1. While the new combat is fun I think the old combat is way more immersive; Assassins don't wear armor, they wouldn't be throwing swords left and right trying to hit something, they would wait for the right moment to counter, like in the old games.

    TBH, few days ago I had started playing AC1 once again, and the more times you play it, the more you realize that this game is a masterpiece.
    You totally get immersed into being the Assassin, and in order to find out information about targets and missions, you must scan and navigate environments, eavesdrop on conversations, intercept and steal letters that contain information, beat up people to find information.... pretty much immerse yourself in the world and do what you would need to do in real-life.
    As for combat, I pretty much prefer AC1 combat over modern games, the only thing I would add to it however, is that the more enemies can attack you at the same time, but everything else is just perfect, and so are counter attacks, because Altair is the Master Assassin, very smart and perceptive, with a lot of skills and life-long combat training, so obviously he can easily read opponents and find the easiest way to neutralize them fairly easy in combat, as Al Mualim had said, Altair is the best and most skilled assassin at his disposal, so ultimately Altair was the best that Masyaf had to offer at that time.
    When it comes to story, it is amazing as well, very well written, and when it comes to characters we saw a lot of development from them, we got to see Altair learning the thing he never liked, being patient, and getting even more wisdom throughout the story, not having mercy, but also showing compassion few times, spared a life and his life later changed for better because of that decision.
    we also got to know Desmond`s and Lucy`s story, we learnt about Abstergo and a lot more useful information that would come in handy later in the series to understand everything better, and all of it was very well written and explained.
    The game can be a tiny bit rough around the edges when it comes to gameplay, but it is the first game in the series, and its development was rushed a bit towards the end, but IMHO, AC1 is "the" Assassins Creed game.

    • @crackadealdez
      @crackadealdez 6 месяцев назад

      The fact is that the game has been specially simplified. In fact, you can be attacked by 3 or more enemies at the same time, sometimes this happens, but due to the fact that the opponents are made too passive, they usually attack one at a time. But that's not all, opponents have hidden kill animations, for example, they can kill other NPCs with a stab in the back (you saw this finishing twice in the game during cutscenes). There are also hidden features in the combat system, for example, you can use a hidden blade at the same time as any other weapon. If you strike with a hidden blade during a fight with a sword or dagger, Altair will not sheathe them if you do it all quickly. If you use a hidden blade in hand-to-hand combat, then you can do dodges by switching between a hidden blade and fists, moreover, if you quickly switch to fists after dodging and press the attack button, Altair will produce a unique animation of a punch, but unfortunately, it does not cause damage. The game has been specially simplified and it has a lot of hidden features, this is my favorite combat and parkour system among similar games because it really resembles fighting games that I like, and not systems with stupid rolls during which you get invulnerability. Ubisoft could improve this system, but first they simplified it in the first game, and then, instead of finishing and improving, they began to remove many things from it. Perhaps they were right, considering that most players absolutely do not understand this game and go through it using counterattacks or parkour just up, not realizing that parkour is about finding ways, and not climbing up with the speed and animations of a monkey, which is physically impossible.

The problem with the first part is that the enemies are too passive, although in fact you can be attacked by more than three enemies at the same time from different sides. I don't know why the maker of this video skipped the aggressive double attack feature that the original AC had, where if you tapped right on time of weapons' impact you go for the instant finish. But more surprised on why the game designers decided to cut it off in the later games. Black flag is amazing, but only if you ignore the assassin part and sail the ship instead. Highly recommend you actually pick up AC1. The engine supports parcour far better than the newest one, so instead of jarring, you'll find it actually just plays smoother.

      Not played the game yet but I can already tell it's mid. The newer Assassin's Creed games seem to struggle to have an identity of their own. Everything feels like a copy-paste from the previous game, just with a new map and a few tweaks to the environment which any solo developer could make given adequate time.

      Mirage has already innovated things that used to be present in AC1 and 2, and made them better. Chase scenes, eavesdropping, and paying attention to your social cues and environment. The guards don't just pay attention to you, but also the citizens. You're supposed to make the citizens feel calm while also not looking suspicious. If you do a bad act or your notoriety is high, the citizens will call you out and call the guards. This goes back to being one with the crowd and blending in, which was what AC1 was all about.

    Mirage is a step in the right direction, after years of stepping in the wrong direction. Still, I'm noticing even AC1 manages a more weighted feel. In Mirage he kind of lightly bounces when parkour, as if his knees don't bend much. And the combat was more realistic, slower and weighted in older ACs, hence why having multiple opponents attack at once would be difficult to manage as your attacks were slower.

    AC1 has far more depth in its mechanics than most people don't know about. For combat you have the usual fast and strong attack, block, combo, counter, break defence, dodge, grab, grab and throw (including into scaffolding) and grab defence, all unlocked as you progress. you can also assassinate enemies in combat that are shocked, taunting, distracted or thrown to the ground. Enemies have the same moves minus the assassination depending on their tier. This means higher tier enemies can counter you, counter your counter, grab you, break your defense etc etc. They can also duke your counters, throwing off your timing. There are also more ways to assassinate depending on if you in high or low profile, running and jumping etc. You can also do a jumping ledge assassination but it is much more manual. Each weapon also has its own speed, damage, timing and moves. With certain counters, you can also break legs and other things.
    Movement is far more advanced In AC1, offering more manual control and freedom. You can wall eject backwards and sideways from anywhere, have controlled descents, controlled ascents, and even vault, which was never returned. all moves can be done freely, with Altair doing exactly what you input. The freedom and manual control of AC1's movement can be talked about at great length.
    The stealth in AC1 is greatly misunderstood and has not returned in the series. You are actually engaging in the social stealth system at all times. enemies have 3 tiers of alertness, Unaware, suspicious and informed, each shown with posture and the SSI indicator. You also have the difference between high and low profile actions, plus blending and the usual line of sight and hide/blending spots. What this means is that you can be observed but not have attention drawn to you depending on the alert level of enemies and if your actions are high or low profile. You can walk up to enemies who are unaware or suspicious and assassinate them in low profile and in front of others without being spotted. Other guards will then investigate when the body drops, which can be used as a distraction or lure guards away from their position. You can do this with informed guards if you blend and walk up to them. You can get away with higher profile actions with less alert enemies, while higher profile actions (including bumping people carrying things or being shoved etc) will get you get you spotted by informed enemies. With enemies also becoming more alert depending on what you do. You can get by informed enemies by sticking to low profile actions, finding ways to get around NPCs that will blow your cover, blending when close or avoiding line of sight. You gain more notoriety as the game progresses after each assassination, with more NPCs that can blow your cover (pot carriers, lunatics, beggars etc), and more informed guards. This makes it harder for you to get by unnoticed as the game progresses. The general idea with its social stealth system is that you can be seen and do things, but not draw attention to yourself, or avoid line of sight. This was removed in favour of only not being seen when you are out of line of sight, or in a hide/blend spot (including crowds).
    AC1, to this day, is still the only Assassin's Creed game that allows you to review information gathered from investigations in the memory log, and use that information to plan, and test things at the place of the assassination before it takes place. This information includes infiltration routes, escape routes, when the target is most vulnerable, guard positions and other things. The assassinations in general also offer a lot more freedom.
    This doesn't cover everything, But AC1 is the most misunderstood and underrated entry in the series, providing a ton of mechanical depth and freedom with additional hidden mechanics.
