Luke performed his debut track, "No Horse To Ride" for us at Under the Big Sky festival. "This was the first song I ever cut, and I guess since we're here with the Western AF boys, sort of the most western song too." This track hit the Top 10 of the Country Songs sales chart at No. 7.
What's been cool to learn is that Luke is and always was a songwriter. He grew up playing music in his church as the son of a pastor. And acknowledges his father for helping lay the foundatoin for his love for music. Even before acting came into his life, he was looking to earn his way as a performer. Acting then became his thing and we are glad he's been able to come around back to songwriting.
I must add, we've seen a couple of Grimes' shows and he has a flawless rendition of Blaze's "Clay Pigeons." Might want to head over to one of this shows to see what we're talking about.
And all hail to Haskill Creek for providing this location for us. And to the team at Outriders for always having us at UTBS. It ain't a Western summer without it.

For him being knee-deep in Hollywood celebrity fame, I'm really impressed that he's taking such a simple "real" approach to his music. It's not over-produced and it's missing much of that generic mainstream country sound.

I wish he'd sing how his vocal chords were made. His inflection is entirely country radio, and it's depressing as hell. We're missing out on something so beautiful because he's singing like everyone else in existence right now and not the way he talks. It's like two different people, his regular voice and then this new person when he sings, but I want to hear Him.
