The only pick I massively disagree with is cragblade. It is still a 15% damage physical damage buff (better than war cry or barbaric roar if you like your current heavy attack), not to mention the 10% poise damage increase is especially good on weapons like great hammers or colossal swords which are usually only just shy of stance breaking bosses using 2-3 charged R2s. It's also really good on things like the iron balls or star fist which can allow you to easily script a lot of the bosses in the game, even at extremely low levels.
I currently run banished knights GS 2handed with cragblade. The Fast hard hitting attacks of the R1s really benefit from the damage buff, and the Extra stance damage stancebreaks pretty much everything in 2 R2s
Some points for a few Ahes of War: 1. Golden Land has two case uses that are pretty good. The Butchering Knife and Great Stars heal with each projectile, also the projectiles carry over effects on the weapon from buffs, so Bloodflame Blade and Black Flame Blade. So this synergies well with those two weapons in particular. 2. Shared Order allows you to buff the weapon with Shared Order, yes you lose out on an Ash of War, but if you run a shield with an Ash of War this isnt as big of an issue as you'll probably be parrying or using a unique Shield skill (Flame Spit). 3. Gravitas is AMAZING for flying enemies, that nasty bird run in Farum Azula is MUCH easier with a weapon that has Gravitas. Also you get some pretty serious hyper-armor as those birds can hit you and youll still power through to INTSANTLY grounds and stuns them. Its also able to intereupt Claymen attacks, and you know how hard thise things are to interrupt. However its you best counter to Bats, Hawks and Warhawks with how pretty much trivializes them, also pretty good for the winged Mosbegotten enemies with bows. 4. Poison and Chilling Mist work very well on the Butchering Knife and Great Stars as enemies that stand in the mist (even if they cant be statused) are considered as "taking damage" so you get healed by this thanks to the unique properties that thise weapons have. This was shockingly effective against Elden Beast where I'd hit with the weapon and deal 700+ damage with the hit before the "healing mist" started working. Was also able to keep Radagon Poisoned for most of that part of the fight as well.
Can you still be hit while doing blood step versus Quick step? The distance? FP cost? I imagine those have to do something with the reasoning behind that
In earlier builds of the game, quickstep was pretty much directly outclassed by BHS, but from nerfed it in one of the other updates. At launch, you could just use BHS to dodge waterfowl dance for free but now it takes a little more thought and you can't just mindlessly spam it to avoid damage. I think they increased the recovery time at the end of the animation so you're vulnerable for more frames, but I'm not entirely sure. All that is to say, yes technically BHS was probably better but this is no longer the case
The weird thing about storm stomp is that its great for enemies with low poise, but useless for enemies with high poise. Like if you need every enemy around you to be stunned for a second to set up an attack or run away its perfect. Otherwise theres nothing really special about it.
For reals people just put it low cause it’s standard but you legit can run through the game only with this Ashe of war. Sad that you can’t put it on greatswords
Man, you really don't like storm assault. I think its pretty cool and not to boast, but I fought the draconic tree sentinel at faram azula using a halberd with storm assault and let me tell you, I broke the enemy's stance a couple times and with right timing I was able to doge over some attacks. Sometimes, you gotta enjoy fighting in style.
Chiling mist applies cold on your weapon after done a double damage with the AOE slash and have a really decent cold status build up. The mist keep apply frostbite status on those standing in or going through and its linger there for a time (and its proc so stationary enemies will having fun). Bloody slash is one of the option to shoot through walls and obstacles killing enemies while you are safe. It has a relatively small AOE but its able to hit multiple enemies (through wall) and scaling with the weapon damage so if you have a good physical dmg you might dont even want the blood infusion, but buffing up the weapon and one hit things with this... while it doesn't even know you there because you behind a wall (imps behind the corners in catacombs, mines...etc). Have little use in PVP as you have to make your enemy stand still while you try to hit them
spinning weapon can be used on more then just staves. You can use it on some polearms like scythes, good for procing bleed in some cases but not as good as just infusing with bleed.
Perseverance in ds3 was never broken it was great for noobstomping on PVP but against any decent player it was waaaay too predictable on pve it was as useless as can be. Its probably way better now in elden ring since you can use it on a dagger and cast draconic incants.

In comparison, AotC: Tail, which requires 27 Faith, a spell slot, 20 FP, and does less damage, does 52. For literally a quarter of the FP cost, you do more damage and can stagger just as easily. Square off is INSANE

No it got broken specifically in the most recent hotfix. Originally, if you used the buff and then swapped weapons, the buff would be gone. But now it stays. Like you can use the tree spears and use the sacred order ash of war and then swap to the coded swords and the coded swords will keep the damage buff (and now have the length of the tree spears), even when you don't have the tree spears on your character's load out anymore. It's the same thing that happened to the jellyfish shield in 1.09

Once you get all of the wet stones, it takes all of this ash of war to a new level, and some of the broken. Like giving blood or occult affinity to every ash of war becomes extremely broken.
