Transitions seems to have added a New Generation of XtraActive lenses claiming to "Transitions XTRActive new generation lenses are darker, clearer and up to 35% faster to fadeback compared to the previous generation.". Would be great to have an updated review for 2022. Thanks for the great work on the video!
Are the transitions lenses completely clear indoors like normal non transitions classes? Or does one of them have a tint that is noticeable in a formal office environment?
If I order glasses online and choose transitions brand name under lens type, does it matter if I choose generic lens material or a name brand material?
Hi Dr D..one question here..can lenses' various indexes affecting the transitioning effect from transition lenses?max darkness level and light transmission and etc..?
Hello! i would like to ask if there is anything specific when it comes to care and maintenance to these lenses? Since they rely with these silver molecule reactions to turn on/off, is there any practice or substance that must be avoided when cleaning them? Thank you!
Nice video, really understood the type of lenses but the question is, what are the durability (how long will they last) of the lenses Gen 8 specifically
You probably know by now? but here goes, my present photochromic glasses are over 7 years old and working fine, I have had a pair where one lens failed after 3 years, I also have an old pair of photochromic glasses from the mid 1990s with glass lenses which are still working perfectly . I am out and about in all weather conditions [UK] and have been wearing photochromic glasses since 1975
Depending which model of transitions you get, you might get very high end lenses from brands like Nikon, my gen8’s are high end Nikon lenses. Truly the best lenses I think I’ve ever had.
Hello Dr.D. Your videos are extremely informative. Thanks for that. I have a one question. I wear bi-focal prescription glasses. Can I use transition Xtraactive transition for bi-focal lenses ?
I just ordered my first pair of transitions , got ray-ban frames with authentic ray ban lenses with the transition gen 8. Anyone know how good they are? And are transitions worth it, or should I have just got the clear lenses? Kinda curious know, damn things were pretty expensive.
They are pretty good. the only issue I have with mine going back clear quickly is when I walk into a house thats not well lit , but eventually, they go back clear. My eyes are comfortable on sunny days. This next round, I'm going to try the transition xtractive lenses to see how well they work while driving.
@@jassingleton8616 I've had them for a bit now and they are pretty awesome. I live in Canada so it being cold af outside makes them darker but ya it does take a while longer for them to go back to clear but just a minor detail. Thanks for the reply.
do u hv the booklet of ZEISS, in which all the kinfs of ZEOSSlenses with coating are mentioned. if yes ple upload those photos on community tap. please reply
Are you looking for their photochromic options? This page has those options www.zeiss.com/vision-care/int/eye-care-professionals/products/sun-protection-outdoor-lenses/self-tinting-lenses/photofusion.html
I see that the Driving one's are polarized but don't lighten and the xtractives aren't polarized but lighten up and are somewhat recommended for driving which I was looking for glasses that are polarized and lighten up so the question is can I get the polarization in auto darkening glasses or are we stuck with polarization in only sunglasses and not in auto darkening eyeglasses ?
I think they have a new transition xtractive polarized that does what I understand you want. In this same channel they review a new pair. They are somewhat recent technology that was not available when they made this video
Best thing to do is spend the money on some nice polarized sunglasses and get them prescribed and use those for driving. In the long run, way better investment.
Transitions Drivewear are geared toward driving. It is not recommended to be worn at night. Plus, it appear they are not available for hi index lenses, such at 1.67. The Xtraactive and Xtraactive Polarized also go dark behind the wheel. However the Polarized darkens the most and regular Xtraactive only darkens at point or two behind the wheel. The polarization in Xtraactive Polarized is minimal behind the wheel and most effective when outside. However, Drivewear retains max polarization behind the wheel and even changes colors depending on the amount of glare.
Essilor has merged with Luxottica and has become a super monopoly of sorts. The prices of new eyeglasses have become obscene. I'm currently searching for a pair of eyeglasses that I prefer, for less than $1,000! Insane what this industry has turned into. For 2 pieces of plastic that cost $20 to manufacture. Same for the frames. Outrageous.
I know, right? I just ordered some ray bans with the authentic lenses and transition gen 8 and was over $500. And apparently they were on sale too. Kinda makes me want to become an optometrist and cash in on this..
This seemed like a commercial for their house brand, Neochrome. I have Transitions Extractive and they return to indoor color much quicker than 8 minutes! I would say within a minute or two.
Xtraactive gets darker but Xtraactive Polarized has polarization as it goes dark when outside. That polarization helps if you are in the snow, sailing or golfing when there is lots of glare.
Good test! However there’s some serious limitations. You’re not objectively measuring light transmission. So to say one product “gets dark” as fast as another is subjective. Same with the fade back; if one lens is starting from less light transmission then that makes a difference. Also, what % of light transmission is “clear”? If you can get equipment to measure that it would be great!
Dr. D, I just ordered my first pair of transition lenses and we went with Xtractive. We had no idea what color to pick from gray or brown so the dude working there picked gray for us. I do not normally like gray in anything. I got frames with a purple tint color and my mom picked blue, and in my opinion brown would look much better now that I’m thinking about this. Any suggestions on gray vs brown?
Hi! The grey vs brown debate is definitely personal preference. I find that my patients with lighter eyes and more light sensitivity really like grey because its darker and brings the colors and light down more. I personally like brown because it tends to make colors "pop" and increase contrast. Then there's the matter of the frame color and coordinating with that. If you hate the grey when you get it, most places have a one time Dr remake you can use. Especially if you're just switching color and not adding or deleting other specs of the lenses. Hope that helps, excited for you to try them!
The Neochromes were not that dark to begin with. The XtraActive Polarized, ive read, is geared toward extra light sensitivity and protects against bright room light too. That may be the reason it transitions slower. I actually like that.
Do people really care that much about the glasses not being completely clear fast enough. Surely no one is “sitting at their desk just waiting for their glasses to go clear”! You can still work if your glasses have a slight tint to them still 😂
13 minutes video without properly displaying the visual difference between photochromic and transition at 100% strength. Can you imagine.
So you missed the part where she said “Transitions” is just a brand name of a photochromic lens?

Very surprised by the performance of Zeiss PhotoFusion lenses. Was that the PhotoFusion X or without the "x"? Maybe the current "X" is better now?
Straight from my lifelong teacher's mouth.. could I be any more happy
Thanks for your video, was really helpful. I just discover your channel and already love your videos.

Hi Dr D,
Can already made prescription glasses get the photochromic feature added? Or do I need a new pair of lenses ordered? Thank you.
How does one buy the neochromes? I can’t seem to find information on how to buy these lenses online.
Thank you for the great review!
I just got a new prescription and I have some new frames. How would I get neochrome lenses from you. And what's the price?
Are you local to North Carolina or Salisbury?

No I'm in California looking for a online site I can send my prescription and frames too.
@@EyeSchoolwithDrD can you please tell me of the Neochrome lenses turn grey behind the windshield too or just the transition ones?Thank you

Pls can u make a video on Bluelight lenses?
Which Zeiss photochromic lens that has the darkest tint and at the same time transitions fast either to clear or dark when exposed to UV?
I watched lot of videos in this subject, and this ine was the best. And it happened to be I am moving to NC on February.
What about trifocals?

Is it true that transition lenses start to get lighter tint after approximately 3 years?
which transition polarized lens would be ideal for an active person..ie golf?

Soooo many options!
How many years until the lenses totally loose their ability to change colors? Or perhaps degrade and stay dark even you're indoors
I read online about 2 years
I’m currently wearing the Eyezen+ Active 0.6, Transitions Gen 8 (in Grey to match my black Ray-Ban frames), along with the Crizal Rock coating.
Finally a woman who's impressed by a 30-sec performance ;)
Hadn’t heard of Neochromes, will keep them in mind based on the results. Good summary!
I was shocked at how well they did!
Too bad the best ones cant be bought.. or can they? Im confused
