    I have been using transition lenses for about 38 years , after one of my early optometrists recommended them for me. In all honesty I don't know which type they were but I have never ever regretted having transitions for the benefits they have. I would certainly recommend transition lens to anyone

    Hi Dr. Allan. I enjoyed watching this video in particular because, as an Optician, I dispense Transitions 8 lenses. Greater than 50% of all orders include Transitions. I am also a Certified Specialist. While there are many outstanding attributes, I find there are instances where they don't darken enough to MY satisfaction, and I own every variety. However, those who try them for the first time are always satisfied and repeat customers wouldn't wear anything else.

      @coldlarva7819 Same questions HERE. I hope you get a reply. My eyes are also VERY light sensitive. I get migraines. Even driving with the sun through windshield causes headaches. So I ordered the xtra active lenses with scratch coating TWICE and BOTH Atimes my glasses had SEVERE scratches. So this last time I went to the eye doctor told optometrist I want this technology that darken BEHIND windshield but needed GLASS lenses. She told me those glass lenses in this technology would only be available in brown or grey. We'll I've done research and it appears the transitions ONLY come in PLASTIC! I have NOT received them yet but they are paid for. So now what do I do?

  • @DrAndrewDoan
    @DrAndrewDoan Год назад +6

    Over the years, photochromic transition lenses have made significant technological advancements. It is important to emphasize the use of darkened lenses or sunglasses in bright sunlight to help mitigate the progression of cataracts.

      @michaelgoodman3326 Год назад +6

      I've been a big fan of the concept of photochromic lenses over the years, but I have found that they always seem to lose the ability to transition too quickly. I often keep a pair of sunglasses for up to two years and the photochromic lenses that I've used in the past never seem to retain the ability to transition that long. When they make a lens that they guarantee will keep transitioning through at least a couple years of use, I'll go back to them.

    Thank you! This video was tremendously helpful. I am looking at these glasses for my daughter, who is in remission from Burkitt-type non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. She is 16, and about to get her learner's permit, so will be driving soon. She really hates the color distortion on the Blokz blue light filtering lenses, so I think she would prefer the Gen 8, because they are perfectly clear indoors. However, I don't know what she's just going to have to get used to, now that she has to really be careful to protect herself following her short but extremely intense cancer treatment this past summer. What lenses would you say offer the maximum protection? Should we just get her a spare pair of polarized prescription sunglasses for when she drives?

    Thanks so very much. You saved my behind. It’s been years since I’ve needed new glasses. As a dentist I wear “sports goggles” as they are the best for my level of activity. Don’t fall off whether I’m over a car hood changing a compressor or treating a little kid. Found what I wanted on line. Exact replacement for what I have now. Needed progressives with Transitions like my old pair. Holy cow, half of what I paid 5 years ago. UNTIL I realized that they weren’t changing in my car. Darn the in house company no longer offers transitions (merely generic photochromatic).. After watching your video, I realized I had XTRActive Transitions in my old glasses. Got really dark, slight tint indoors, worked in my car etc. I was able to go back to the local shop and have them custom make exactly what I wanted. All because of the information I got from your video. So thanks you once again. And oh yeah. You get what you pay for. Priceless info!

      This is completely anecdotal and should not be taken as fact, definitely consult with a professional. That being said, I've been using drivewear for the past couple of years and have never had any issues at night (outside of maybe a complete blackout scenario). I only ever really take them off to shower and sleep.
      I'm not sure about them being 'better' for astigmatism but that's what I have and the last time I did my regular checkup test my Optom said there was very little change in my prescription after using them for a couple of years. So she recommended continuing with them.
      Now of course there are likely many other factors in play but just thought I'd give my experience. It could very well be that when I first got them the consensus wasn't out as yet and going forward I may have to switch to one of these newer ones. A professional's input based on your specific case and needs is best.

    • @davidwagner8837
      @davidwagner8837 3 месяца назад +1

      Both colors block the same amount of light. The difference is perception. Most people perceive black/gray to be darker vs. graphite green. Transitions indicate that xtractive are their darkest.
      The benefit of graphite green is color perception, important for photographers and pilots.

    Dr. Allen. I would love your insight on my specific case of eye floaters. I have watched your videos on floaters and would love to hear your thoughts. I have constant eye floaters all across my field of vision. They never go away and I notice them in basically every setting 24/7. I do not experience flashes of light or the "curtain" effect you talk about in this video. I feel like you can give me good insight because like you, my eye floaters developed in my early 20's sometime around early 2020 at the age of 24. I remember looking into the sky and noticing a small floater. Around the time that my floaters developed, I was also dealing with what seemed like a constant headache. Eventually the headache went away, but the floaters - with what began as one small floater to being across my entire field of vision in months - remained and are still bothering me. I also see small little sparks of light (almost like fireflies that are most noticeable when I look at the sky). Every now and then I'll see random flashes either white dots/sparks as well as black/brown dots. Trying to figure out what is going on and why I went from zero floaters to a field of vision full of lasting, constant floaters within months. Any insight will help. Thanks.

      Hi, I’m 57 and have had floaters in both eyes since a teenager. Most noticeable in bright light and I’ve just accepted them. A week ago in my right eye I started getting flashes of light and then a few more much more prominent floaters with a headache that lasted for a few days. I phoned my GP but they suggested going to the optician. The optician examined my eyes and said I have posterior vitreous detachment (PVD). Fortunately I don’t have a retinal tear or retinal detachment which gives the curtain in your vision or showers of floaters and is more serious. The vitreous in the eye shrinks back with age and leaves the back of the eye causing flashes and floaters in some people. It was scary but the flashes stopped after 3 days for me but I am left with very visible floaters in my right eye which I’m told may improve. I’m short sighted and wear contacts (although currently planning to get transitions in Oakley’s too hence being here). Apparently PVD is more commonly in short sighted people like me.

    The first tip I would have for anyone looking for Translations lenses is first look at Sunglasses that might be displayed with the frames. Not that you are going to buy them but instead to see a few sunglass styles that work for you.
    Next look at the frames available for eyeglasses that are close to the sunglass styles you like. Often times sunglass frames are available in an eyeglass frame as well. When you try them on as eyeglasses you can see if you would also like them clear.
    Doing this will give you glasses that look natural when they are outdoors but that you also like the look of when it’s indoors. Why a lot of people don’t like transitions lenses is they picked frames that would never look like sunglasses and it just looks wrong when they are outside.

    Transitions Vantage are the most comfortable from indoors to outdoors and back. They don't make them anymore; but, the reddish/violet tint also seems to lessen the possibility of headaches from light sensitivity. Virtually clear inside. The transition to darker is magically unnoticeable (you will have to take them off to verify that they did indeed get darker). They don't change much at all in the car, and the variable polarization is minimal; but, all around comfort in all light conditions makes for a pleasant day, go-to pair. Essilor really should reconsider and bring them back.

    Looks like none of these incluidng the gen 8 go properly clear they all seem to have a fair bit of residual tint, Zeiss photofusion X is better in that respect goes totally clear and also seems to be quicker getting dark and then clear again. I think they have nicer colours too e.g. their blue really is nice vivid blue whereas transitions is more of a grey than a blue. Saying that I don't think any of these transitions style lenses get properly dark under normal use. I've only seen my Photofusion X go properly dark when held under a UV test lamp and not out in the real world!
