- This is how I got AM2R (Another Metroid 2 Remake) up and running on my Steam Deck.

This was an awesome tutorial and I was able to get AM2R running, thank you so much! I did have an issue with the default controls and had to manually set them up in settings but after that it worked perfectly.
Same here. Had to move to each control, press the A button to select the empty control, and then tap the button I wanted.

Weird. Restarted and now it launches???
@@ravenrue Try running it from the script that I placed in the description. Just copy and paste the command I have there and save it into a text file. Make it executable, and run the script.
To fix the opening and closing at launch, I just refreshed the latest update on the AM2R Launcher in Discover and it fixed it for me
Thanks for this! I have it all set up, and I can now finally play this. I've wanted to play this game a long time before I bought a steam deck & this is the perfect as well as the most convenient way to play it.

Thanks for the help! For anyone here on a Linux laptop/desktop instead of a Steam Deck, make sure to change the folder "deck" in the script to your username.

you don't need to actually make a file to run AM2R, just add anything as a non steam game, change the name, remove the "Target" and "Start in" and copy the command into the "launch options"

couldn't figure out the video, but this comment did the trick. Only other thing was that I had to download custom bindings cause there were no presets.
Sorry to bother you, but what does copy the command mean? I’ve never done this before and calling those words magic would be an understatement
Okay so I did this but the I can't select start game I can move in the main menu but buttons won't work

Note that you need to update the base files when first running the launcher. After that it will allow you to link to your 1.1 zip file.
This game was a blast
Does anyone have any tips for getting the controls to work? If ran directly through the launcher in desktop mode i can get past the start screen, but cannot go further. Pressing some buttons changes the icon by “select” to “[A]” but that’s it.
Had to press the Start button on the main menu and navigate to settings and change button settings. Went with Default and from there on the A button was working as it should. Had to get used to hitting Done and not pressing B button to back out of the menu

@@magolord24 tried to replicate but the best I could remember was to press the Steam button while on the game menu and selecting Controller Settings> Controller Settings>and then selecting a Layout. I currently have it to Gamepad with Joystick Trackpad

Can't seem to get to the Am2r 1.1 zip when browsing from the launcher if I put the downloaded folder on my external SD card. Unable to see the media folder inside of var/run folder to get to it. Pretty annoying.
Be sure you have the “show hidden files” toggled on.
Ok so I got it launch but I'm stuck at the menu because none of the controls work
did anyone figure out how to fix the controls on this when i play the controls are all messed up.

Nope, won't download the files. I keep "Early Eof" error

@@Billdeluz so I toyed around with it some more. It’s key bindings that fixed it
@@Billdeluz I don’t exactly remember what I pressed but if you can get to the options menu and set up the inputs correctly for control pad it’ll work just fine.
@@barnesbuilt1250 Did you just use the default Gamepad layout in the controls setting?
@@stevenliv5069 I REALLY wish I remember what I did. I from what I recall, I made my way into the keybinding menu somehow and once I set up the proper inputs on the control pad, it enabled cycling through the menu and was smooth sailing there
The script at the bottom worked perfectly, but only for desktop mode. Any ideas for gaming mode?

So i tried but i can't get it to work in game mode. I copied and pasted the text and the version is correct. Is there anything else that can be done?
This worked, but it isn't detecting any input from the steam deck's controller in game mode.

When I launch in game mode, I only hear music unless I launch another game, and then am2r will appear. Any ideas?

My copy doesn't do anything after hitting play in the launcher. Hope this works!
That's what was happening to me at first and I got around it somehow. I want to say that I launched it manually (rather than via the launcher) and once it was launched once manually, it would launch through the launcher just fine. The contents of the script are in the description, so you can copypasta it. Report back if you can.
Also, @ravenrue said that a reboot may have fixed the launch issue, so maybe try that too?
Is it possible to use Bluetooth Controllers with it? Mine does not work... 😕

The game works but the controls do not respond. Using a PS5 controller
You need to set controls to default, then they work on the Steamdeck.
