😂
Wheeey!! 🥱
Don’t forget the mighty Phil Jones bro.
😂😂😂
🤣🤣🤣
I loved Vidic man he was such a beast and scored some great header goals. He just had that eastern european toughness about him and I wouldnt mess w that dude.
Vidic would probably be my no1. Imagine him and Stam!
Torres loved playing against him though.
@@aaronhounsome8954 i loved Torres too!
@@jamiecook4288 well said, Stam and Vidic should have been the best.
@@aaronhounsome8954 ultimately vidic beat torres more times than torres got past him so yh.
I think people don't remember how reliable Vidic was at the back. It wasn't just his beast mentality and sacrifice on the pitch, he was rock solid and never seen him made a single mistake when defending, which is not what I can say about Rio. In that UTD partnership Nemanja was the more reliable one, and it wasn't even close. Best defender Premier league has seen and probably the only one who instilled fear in opponent strikers.
Did not instil fear in Torres though
@@mforme1111 I think it was one or two matches where he got skinned, the rest of the time he faced him he wasn't much of a threat. This is just not true and is a narrative liverpool fans keep on saying.
@@dafunkyshit Torres always skinned him even in his bad Chelsea days . Torres ate him and John Terry without thinking

Maguire not even in the equation. This can’t be real. Surely the correct top 5 should be:
1. Maguire
2. Jones
3. Lindelof
4. Smalling
5. Varane ( just for this season he’s been outstanding)
Mustafi robbed
Mings over varane
Mike smalling first

Fun fact they all played for united 😆
What i love is the generational difference. VVD isn't just humble but willing to learn or be taught. He didn't see players like Tony Adam play. That's where Rio's knowledge comes in. I love the respect from both. No such list will ever be universally endorsed, with the tribal nature of football a factor here. All in all, the game has been blessed with talent. We are spoiled for choice in the end.
Teach him what? He barely mentioned them or said anything.
@@kb5509 Really? They must have discussed a cross-section of stuff. The interview is about VVDs choices. Rio is respectful enough to listen. I still heard him contribute on fellow defenders he played with or against. Isn't that knowledge to Van Dijk?
Wow. Well said.
Adams played the old school centre half role and had his off the field demons then came back and then adapted under a new manager ( Wenger ) new training style, diet etc everything and won the double, so he played in 2 generations of the game if that makes sense so I would of put him in. Other 4 Rio, Terry, company and big vid. Stam class but I can't put him in as he never played long enough for this debate and van dijk still playing I think best defender in the world the now but this debate for me is for players who have finished, he will go down as maybe the best once finished.
@@colincarnochan4156 Good points, Colin.
Vidic has got to be the most underrated CB. Imo he’s number 1

It's his choice mate 🤣
Stam had entered the chat
Cos there’s much better defenders than just United defenders
Until Fernando Torres destroyed him and his career 🤣
Rio was better
JT is the best CB imo. Played at the top of his game even in his later years yet Rio declined with age pretty badly in positional awareness and pace. JT never relied on pace to his game.
Great penalty taker too might I add
Spot on. Was Rio lost his pace he struggled to adapt, realistically he shouldve moved away from England in my opinion once he lost his legs.
@@mn98lfc Go back and watch him in 12-13. Was key in United's title win. Was hardly young then.
Rio lost his pace in his early 30s and still went on to do well for a couple years after until his mid 30s.
@@samuste_ go back and watch his last season at United, and the infamous spell at QPR. Bombscare. And not as good as Terry in multiple technical aspects.
Vidic was a beast 🔥
Vidic was in Torres' s pocket all the time

He must've watched the "Vidic is better than Van Dijk" comparison vids, hence the reason why he underrates him. Vidic is one of the best to every do it..absolute beast!!
Vidic amazingly overlooked
Premier Leagues best centreback
Imagine if he was English
Statue in every city
Marcel Desailly was a monster of a defender for Chelsea, however it wasn't over a long period..
Was he? They finished super low when he played
best years were at Milan remember him begging Henry not to embarass him at Chelsea
he was the main teacher for JT.
I think he was more of a midfielder when he was at Milan.
@@jamesinhenley the lowest he finished at chelsea was 6th.
Virge obviously needs more time to fully establish himself legacy wise amongst some of these names, but PURELY in terms of skill set, he is the comfortably the most complete. He has absolutely everything, ridiculous pace for a CB, strength, wins everything in the air, positioning, anticipation, tackling, goal threat, insanely comfortable in possession and one of the best long passers i've ever seen from the CB position.
And a great, inspiring leader
Silva >

Vidic not being on that list is awful, that man was the most amazing centre back I’ve seen in the Prem. Definitely above Ferdinand, no bias btw I’m not a Utd fan I support Villa but Vidic was a machine.
Vidic>Terry>Stam>Van Dijk,Adams>Ferdinand.(rest I didn’t follow enough to judge)
@@vandal_dk Dunno about United fans now, but back then majority of United fans including myself rated Vidic as the better defender. I mean he's the only defender to win POTY for 2 seasons in the league as well. Guy was massively rated in those days, I remember it all
My personal top 5 picks would be:
1. John Terry
2. Virgil van Dijk
3. Nemanja Vidic
4. Rio Ferdinand
5. Ricardo Carvalho
Perhaps Stam?
JT gotta be number 1 had everything in the locker but pace !
And he made up for that with exceptional positioning and ability to read the game.
I think every Liverpool fan here is saying John Terry cause they don't want Ferdinand or Vidic to be number one. Come on even as a Arsenal fan I consider Vidic to be number one. John Terry was a Traditional defender multiplied by 2 hen was nothing more than a CB where as Vidic excels in defending far more than JT and Ferdinand was a special kind of defender.
VIDIC is the ONLY defender to win Two player of the year awards in the Premier League Ever.
He didn't need pace ..read the game ..best CB ever in premier league
Nah, just look at him get cooked by ljundberg when he still had a hair. He's strong and great cb but c'mon he had more silly mistakes than vidic or rio.
Stroking egos, especially Rio's. He even put himself as No.1. LOL. He wasn't as good as Stam, no chance. Sir Alex's biggest mistake that he admitted himself was letting him go. An absolute colossal defender.
Spot on 💯
Rio is only just about the best Ferdinand lol 😂
But his passing is quite remarkable
@@Wowietalks He was world-class Rio don't get me wrong, but he also had Vidic next to him. Rio said it about Stam himself, Stam could marshal the entire defensive half of the pitch practically single-handed. Van Dijk is the closest I've seen to Stam since.
Anton has always been the better Ferdinand
I remember growing up as a United fan in the Premier League era where the the likes of Vidic, Terry, Ferdinand, Campbell, Carvalho, etc we’re in their prime.
Maybe I’d judge it differently now but I always remember seeing Vidic and John Terry as just complete rocks. The rest are absolute top drawer without a doubt, but there was something about those two - even seeing their names on the team sheet was enough.
A friend of mine is a life long Evertonian, and he always told me that he fancied his Everton side to score against every team, except when United had Vidic there - he said he almost just felt like there wasn’t any chance.
Exactly. People who have watched vidic and Terry play would say the same. It's difficult to pick 1st and 2nd among those 2 but those 2 best defenders in the history of EPL.
Decent list but lets be straight, John Terry is the best CB to play in the premier league. Statistically and on the eye
Not sure “on the eye” as in good to watch, but he’s 100%, easily, the best CB to play in the Premiership! Not even close imo
Agree with both , he was outrageous

The ideal center back is a rock that opposition attacks break against and out of all these center backs vidic best fits that. Passing and playmaking is for midfielders and attackers, at least one of your center backs just has to be a stopper and that was vidic when he was partnered with rio. In their prime I would have picked vidic ahead of rio and I bet most attakcers at the time would rather have any cb in their way than nemanja vidic. The guy was a beast.

Let’s not forget Maldini was primarily a left back too, how he could play both positions so comfortably was mind blowing
@@adamantbloke scary mate
Nice to see some respect from a Liverpool fan. I feel a lot of modern football fans (not just Liverpool fans) are quick to forget how good certain players of the past were, or just simply didn't watch them.
JT, while a deplorable person, was still one of the absolute best, and he was at that level for around 15 years. If VVD is still doing it for a similar amount of time (15 likely out of the question as he's already 30, with 4 and a half seasons at Liverpool) and plays every single minute of a title winning campaign at 35, I'd say the torch would be passed.
@@metalswifty23 I think it's more new "social media" fans mate. They're more bothered about making funny memes than the actual game and history of it.
I'm a Liverpool man myself and Roy keane is one of my favourite players of all time.
Fair comment. I watched VvD at Southampton and even then couldn't believe he had been missed by the bigger clubs, almost perfect as a defender.
JT, like his clubmate and compatriot get underrated purely because of their off the field shenanigans. Purely based on their on pitch acheivements both would make an all time PL XI.
Hyppia was class, loved him growing up thought we found a gem with Agger but when we got VVD damm what an upgrade on those 2.

@Bill Bob Vidic was great, one of the best… unless he was up against Fernando Tores 😂
@Bill Bob because he had a bad year at QPR? Vidic was just as poor at Inter.
@Bill Bob I think he got him sent off 3x
Come on if anybody says Vidic wasn't the greatest premierleague defender ever, he is baised. Even as a Arsenal fan I can undoubtedly say that I have never seen someone so exceptionally talented in defending in the premier league ever.
Stam was everything that Vidic was but much much better mobility. Where as JT did everything as good as Vidic, dealt with pacey players better than Vidic used to despite his lack of mobility too and JT played at the top of his game for longer than Vidic, so that's why JT is held in higher regard. No bias here, im an Arsenal fan btw.
Vidic was reckless no?
Vidic was too error prone.
Vidic is so underrated, he read the game brilliantly constantly making interceptions which he never got credit for. Peerless in the air as well. He has about 2 bad games against Torres and everyone harps on(Liverpool fans create myths all the time) about it even though Torres could do nothing against him in the other 15 or so games.
As an Arsenal fan its criminal that Adams or Campbell weren't in instead of Hyypia.
For the younger fans - Adams played in an Arsenal defence that kept 25 cleansheets in one season. He was a colossus at the back in his prime and one of the greatest leaders the British game has ever seen. His dominance in the air, aggression, strength, leadership and organisational skills were up there with the best. But it was his positioning and timing of his tackling that were exceptional for him. I lost count of the times a striker would be through only for Mr Arsenal get in a last ditch tackle and take the ball away from his man.
Where Adams is lacking a little compared to some other names is his lack of mobility - same as Hyypia, Vidic, JT.
On the ball he wasn't as comfortable as some of the guys on this list, but what he didn't have in that area he made up in the other areas of his game.
Ferdinand said it best about Sol, he was such an athlete and so strong and fast, probably physically the strongest defender on this list, and so hard to beat 1vs1 but could have been better on the ball.
Vidic is top in almost every defensive stats, Terry is second to him. But he exceeds Vidic in goalscoring which isn't even defensive Stat.

Vidic is better than use all, the only player who put himself in serious danger countless times. Another reason he finished up a bit earlier. Van dijk is a great player, but that list without Vidic isn’t a list. Ferdinand also relied on Vidic a lot which made him stand out.
