The original came from a movie with Rodney Dangerfield and a very young Robert Downey, Jr. called, “Back to School.” Check it out. Diving parts in that movie are hysterical.

Could you recommend an album of theirs to get started with please? I like the songs I've heard just never listened to their albums.
@@dant828 Of course!! It depends on what you're looking for exactly, because they have definitely evolved over the years.
Their first two albums (Half Hour of Power/All Killer No Filler) are honestly just them goofing around and experimenting to find their sound. Early 2000's summer pop punk, but not nearly as clean or structured.
Recommended: Grab the Devil by the Horns and **** Him Up the ***, Machine Gun, Fat Lip, In too Deep
Does This Look Infected? is when they start to get louder and have even more guitars. It keeps the spirit of the first two albums but leans closer to traditional punk.
Recommended: The Hell Song, Still Waiting, Hooch
Chuck is well regarded as a big turning point of the band thanks to real events where they were caught between a war in Africa during a documentary and saved by the titular UN peacekeeper. It's much more mature than the previous albums and has a darker sound without being angry enough to be punk/metal or sad enough to be emo.
Recommended: No Reason, Open Your Eyes, 88
Underclass Hero is my personal favorite, although it was a low for the band in sales and reception. They reverted to their high spirited roots, while still keeping mature and (for the first time) personal messages. It questions religion, politics and Deryck's family life. It's the cleanest and I think catchiest album of the bunch.
Recommended: March of the Dogs, Pull the Curtain, King of Contradiction
There were plenty of reasons for Screaming Bloody Murder's delay, but it was worth the wait. It reflected Deryck's marriage and divorce with Avril Lavigne and became the darkest/heaviest album at the time. You could almost say it sprouts hard rock but it's still embedded in their unbreakable punk roots. Every album following only gets heavier.
Recommended: Holy Image of Lies, Sick of Everyone, Happiness Machine (in that order)
It took years to release 13 Voices because of Deryck's hospitalization and near death from excessive alcoholism, but he powered through rehab, the original guitarist came back after being gone since Underclass Hero and 13 Voices became a punk/metal sensation.
Recommended: Goddamn I'm Dead Again, Fake My Own Death, 13 Voices
Order In Decline was just recently released this year and has a very similar sound to 13 Voices. It mostly covers the Trump presidency in a very negative manner and plays through like the perfect marriage between pop-punk and metal.
Recommended: Out for Blood, The New Sensation, 45 (A Matter of Time)
*Tl;dr - they're all great, you can't go wrong with Sum 41*
